5 Reasons Why You Should Quit Social Media In 2016. by Tope4242(m): 11:50am On Aug 05, 2015 |
1. Profound Time Waster: Social media
obviously consumes more time than
necessary. While it is true that some of the
time spent on social media could be used
maintaining some important business
connections, it is also through that one
could be distracted and end up spending
valuable time on games, irrelevant chats
with strangers, downloading or viewing
photo albums of friends, reading friends’
updates, etc while the resultant effect of
these activities is less productivity and the
loss of valuable time. Dorie Clark of the
Huffington Post reports Facebook users
spend about six hours each month on the
site, while social networkers spend three
times as much time on those communities
as they do on other online activities like
email. You can imagine how much time is
lost. 2. Endangers Physical Human Relationship: It is no news that on the social media platform, a lot of relationships are built. But it is needless, proving that most of these relationships are deceptive in nature in the sense that they are only virtual and not real relationships. Online users make new friends with little or no emotional attachment online and this friendship is only sustained through chats. This virtual relationship endangers physical human relationship as it steals the time for physical inter-personal interaction, since no matter how intimate online friends could be, there is still need for a more concrete and physical relationship. 3. Endangers Self Security: Because of the liberty to share information, social media platforms endanger the security of the user because it is prone to hacking and identity theft. Some have been carried away by the fun of social media to disclose sensitive information that could endanger their security. Criminals even impersonate others in other to obtain classified information from their victims which could be used against the victims. 4. To Enhance one’s Financial Security: Online presence requires internet connection and this could be money sapping. The present day Nigeria does not guarantee the availability of functional free internet access and therefore, to be connected online, one has to spend to subscribe to internet access. For an effective social media presence, one has to be frequently online and at the end, this would require high data volumes and huge expenses which should have been used for something more rewarding. 5. To save one from addiction: Social media activism could be a torn in the flesh when one gets addicted to it. It has some damaging psychological effects when addiction is involved and the victim can hardly concentrate on any other thing except social media. PEACE 1 Like |

I disagree These problems you mentioned concerning social media are due to lack of focus and not the platform per se For example if you are a business owner there should only be 2 types of people you engage; those who buy your stuff and those who love your content . The problems that you mentioned are based on an individuals lack of direction which could be a problem on or offline Social media is a great way to grow business connections without leaving your home; Like LinkedIn for example But time does need to be managed wisely if you don't have objectives on social media then you could unwittingly be wasting doing unnecessary things just like if you were offline too.
