I think this country has more pressing issues than focusing on an Oba's negative statement. It's a joke to think that the ICC would even prosecute such cases. Last time I checked there's something called freedom of speech and since the Oba's position is not an elected position, I see no reason why we continue to make a mockery of ourselves. Many of you might feel what the Oba said was hateful and quite frankly I feel the same way but is there a law that prohibits free speech or are we just letting our sentiments control us?
I hope you are okay upstairs? Who told you freedom of speech guarantees you the liberty to threaten people? For your information your freedom of expression is limited when it threatens other peoples right

Well, I commend you for the honesty! I'm personally appalled at the level of hate, tribalism and bigotry in this Nairaland! If it's a reflection of the general society, then we are really in trouble!! All over the world, racial and ethnic sentiments exist, but the norm is to be politically correct!

You see, you shouldn't be angry if people equate your pro-ApC sentiments to mean anti-Igbo sentiments! Unfortunately, most of the Igbo-bashers are pro-APC! I'm not saying it's justified, but generally when I understand the currents behind an issue, I try to rationalise it! For instance, I understand the sentiments that make some Yorubas and Hausas despise Ijaws..Even though it's largely borne out of hasty generalisation, I can appreciate the pathos! As an Ijaw man, I know GEJ wasn't the best president Nigeria has had, but he wasn't the worst! For me, his major failure was that he wasn't firm enough and wasn't shrewd! As a young man, I have learnt that to lead, you have to know how to play hardball! And you can't be associated with loose cannons etc...

Please be stoic and maintain your usual objectivity! Somehow, we can gradually sway more people to politically correctness! Like you, I'm sometimes tempted to show by dislike of the overbearing attitude of certain ethnicities, or rise in defence of mine...but I'm also learning to quell the urge! The luxury I have is that, unlike you, I don't have the visibility you have on Nairaland...and my opinion wouldn't influence many. Someone called you a Nairaland elite...That's a quaint way of putting the reality! Best of luck...

omenka:
I'm sorry if that is the vibe I'm giving off. Of course I never used to comment of threads of this nature, but it gets to a point where some of these things just annoy you so much you almost lose your mind. Imagine people now equate being a staunch APC supporter to being a muslim and someone who hates Igbos!! How does one fold his hand and see himself painted in such manner??

No one has summoned the attention of Ishilove to threads on tribal bashing than myself (I believe she can attest to that) and it didn't manner whether it was Igbos taking it out on Yorubas or vice versa, but at some point I simply gave up on doing so because as you take down one of such threads, five more are created!!! Just take a look at this board and see it has now been transformed into nothing but a tribal, ethnic and secessionist board rather than what it was meant for- politics.

You are right I might have been sounding a little off key lately, I'd admit my fault, but I certainly don't wish any ethnic group "in general" harm. For what its worth, these faultlines are being accentuated by politicians just to divide us, preserve our loyalty, and consolidate their influence over state affairs.

I'd take a step back in the hope I don't become completely consumed by the hate that has taken over this board lately.

This is an OBA Who used poor words, but could not for the sake of the Office he holds, make a formal public apology.

.

What?
Even the most powerful man on earth today, Barack Obama, can publicly apologize when he wrongs a person or group of persons.

If there is any culture or tradition - retrograde - that prevents the Oba of Lagos from making a public apology, you had better protect and preserve such culture for an Oduduwa Republic. In Oduduwa Republic, the Igbo or non-Yoruba people in Lagos state shall be told who to vote in elections in Oba Akiolu's Lagos enclave.

Imagine the devilish hypocrisy of those people. They assume sleeping dogs shouldn't be allowed to lie yet want us to, just like Reverend Kukawa, let bygones be bygones over Jonathan's regime's unmitigated stealing.

I condemned the Oba statement then and still hold the opinion it was very provocative and unbecoming of a figure his standing in the society- but some people who see people like Nnamdi Kanuwa et al who preach the extermination of a people as role models have no right whatsoever demanding such justice.

Did you even understand what I wrote at all What do you mean by "have you proven the bolded"?? People are saying Jonathan's regime is gone and we should forgot about probing him and just move on (let sleeping dogs lie) and you ask "have you proven the bolded"?? What manner of upside down reasoning is that?? What exactly should I prove: that he shouldn't be probed or that you guys don't hold the opinion he shouldn't be probed??

As regards how it relates to this issue, I'm saying you people are hypocrites to say we should let sleeping dogs lie on over Jonathan's regime while in the same breath state Oba's case should be investigated. But I'm not surprised though, warped logic has always been the cornerstone of you guys' MO.

And for the record, I don't give a beetle's fart your opinion on how I used to argue then and what it is now. I don't know you, neither do you me. I bet if it wasn't for this forum, perhaps I never would have had the misfortune of crossing paths with most of the scoundrels that populate the forum.

When you are done reading, you can go to hell in 75 different ways.

Who is asking that bygones should be bygones as per Jonathan's government?

Last time I checked, people who cared about the Daura President went to advice him to stop creating tension in the polity by trying people on the pages of newspapers. He was advised to use appropriate democratic channels to do whatever it is he wants to do.

If he's got any evidence about anybody (which I know he doesn't anyway), he should charge the person to court and stop using the noise he and his co travellers like Oshiomhole are making to take our eyes off the ball.
