Thanks for the advice but both professions are on the SOL list for PR.

Please tell me why you recommended Social work.

Also, which of the two fields has higher job/pay prospects?

I will advise you to go for social work as well. It's better in terms of pay and job prospects.

Just got a positive response from Trades Recognition Australia (TRA). My seven years experience was assessed as being equivalent to at least three years in Australia and also only my National Dilpoma (ND) was assessed as being equivalent to AQF cert III instead of my Higher National Diploma (HND).

- Child care rebates for all irrespective of your income- Right to family tax benefit A & B subject to income.

- Children born inside Australia will be Australian citizens

- Having Australia passport enables you to enter more than 168 countries of the world including Canada, USA,UK on visa free or visa on arrival etc. Some of the countries you could work and live for a period of time such as US, Canada, UK etc.- Right to free education in from primary to secondary school in a public school as a PR holder.

- As aa citizen, Government pay your school fees-as loan in the University and you can start paying back when you start to earn up to 53,000AUD per annum.

- Right to sponsor your family members for Permanent residence, subject to fulfilling some criteria.- Right to youth employment benefit.

- Right to social security benefit.-

- Right to become anything you want to be. You will be supported by government.

- Great weather. Although there could be flood and storms in some places. Also wildfire is a threat particularly in some regional areas.

In terms of countries GDP, Australia is no 12.Australia

Current unemployment rate is 6.2%Cost of Living compared Indices
Difference Consumer Prices in Canada are 18.36% lower than in Australia Consumer Prices Including Rent in Canada are 22.68% lower than in Australia
Rent Prices in Canada are 32.17% lower than in Australia
Restaurant Prices in Canada are 16.47% lower than in Australia
Groceries Prices in Canada are 9.50% lower than in Australia
Local Purchasing Power in Canada is 4.87% lower than in Australia
Melbourne has been the most liveable city inthe world for some years in a row now. And the 18th most expensive city to live.
Brisbane is 13th most expensive city and Sydney 11th city. No Canadian city in the first 20 most expensive cities to live.

Australia generally is one of the most expensive country to live in the world. This depends largely on where you live. For example, Sydney cost of living is huge. What kills here majorly is the cost of rents. And even at that, it depends on where you live in Sydney.Minimum wage in Australia currently is AUD 16.87/hrMinimum wage in Canada currently is CAD 11/hr

Employment Situation

Regarding employment for prospective overseas Engineers, I would say it depends on your skills and your experience. Some people were employed directly from Nigeria to work here even without PR. I know of a Mechanical Engineer that got job 7 days after he arrived and some 1-month or two etc. However, do spend several months before they get their dream jobs. Anyway, things have changed a bit because market isa bit flooded particularly for Telecom Engineers. Although there is this ‘local experience palaver’ which most Australian employers value so much. It was when I got in that I discovered why they value it so much. Different work ethics is one of the reasons. If you have worked in places like the UK,US etc. You won’t find it difficult as such when looking for jobs. In Nigeria, we are jack of all trades so to say, but here thereis clear delineation of duties. In some cases, you are expected to focus on your area only. Back in Nigeria, I was doing planning, project engineering, support etc. but when I got here,I focus only on designing, less stressful so to say.
Having said that, there are skills and experience in Telecom engineering that are not in demand such RF,CORE and BSS. It willbe easier for someone with transmission (Not Microwave) experience coupled with IT to get something than a RF Engineer or Core Engineer.I know few Nigerians working in Oil and gas, IT, Construction industry and also Telecomms. Generally, the strategy is to have Australia standard CV, relevant certifications and not minding starting afresh or do an internship and possibly volunteering jobs. Taking up a volunteering job will fetch you Australian experience. If you educate me more on your skills and experience, I will be able to advise you. Send a mail to them, the person should go with your original international passport couple with a short note indicating that you are authorising the person to pick your result on your behalf.

I totally agree. For those who know my battle with them, can you believe I'm yet to receive the remark of my IELTS written on April 30...4 months later. I have written several mails to no avail. I even went to their office in Port Harcourt. They are looking for my remarked result. Thanks to a friend (on this forum) who recommended PTE. I could have waited in vain.

Yes, you can edit your EOI after submission, but note that the date of effect of your EOI will change when you make changes that increase/decrease your points. Date of effect is the date your EOI is deemed submitted.

Good on you, you are fine with the Cert 3 for that occupation. Like I said before, you will still get your 10points from the qualification. You really don't need to include your HND while submitting EOI. How many points do you have altogether now? And which visa would you be applying for?

HELLO NNBB2012 AND ALL,
I want to apply alone for the visa 189 but I have 4 lovely kids and I don't have the financial might to sponsor 6 people. Let hope that I am successful what is the best way to bring them all to OZ. There is nothing as nice as been with one's family. Thanks
Re: General Australian student Visa Enquiries Part 2 by KIKIADE: 4:33am On Aug 27, 2015
Sir, How was the experience with TRA, what are the documents needed and how long does it take for the result to be out, then the fees as compare with that of EA. then why going for 341111 when you can go for some other electrical engineering occupations on the list. Sorry for all the questions , I equally have HND with 15 years experience in NEPA and at the point of choosing one of the occupations on the SOL list but considering the fees by the assessing organization-EA,TRA and VETASSESS.thanks

Just got a positive response from Trades Recognition Australia (TRA). My seven years experience was assessed as being equivalent to at least three years in Australia and also only my National Dilpoma (ND) was assessed as being equivalent to AQF cert III instead of my Higher National Diploma (HND).

Thanks NNBB2012. Age = 30 points, Experience = 5 points, Qualification = 10 points, PTEA / IELTS = Registered already and will be writing in 2 weeks. It was stated on my outcome letter that i started skill employment since December 2004 and at that my equivalent experience in Australia is AT LEAST 3 years.Just hoping that when i finally lodge my application, i will be awarded more than 5 points.

As for the documents needed to apply for TRA, the best option is to visit their website and follow the requirement / steps in the application guide. It actually took them 50working days to send my outcome.I really don't know much about EA, but TRA is AUD1000 while EA is about AUD800. I opted for 341111 because that is where i felt i would get a positive outcome and i eventually got it.

As it is, you have 45points without the English test. You need at least 10points from English test for you to be eligible for any visa. Department of immigration would refer to your letter for the purpose of awarding points for your experience; since it is stated on your letter that you have 3yrs, then you would be awarded 5points and nothing more. Focus on our English test and make sure you get at least 7,7,7,7 (IELTS)/ 65,65,65,65 (PTE A). Goodluck in your test.

I strongly plead with you to look for the money and include them in your application at once. You will even benefit more by bringing them with you. Your children would be entitled to Tax benefits right from day one that they enter Australia, although this is subject to income. We are talking about roughly 1500AUD per fortnights. You could actually recoup the money within 1 month of their arrival. Applying separately for them could take longer time than necessary. So, be guided accordingly.

Hello NNBB2012. Please do you know how long it takes to assess work experience alone on EA? This isn't stated in the MSA booklet. I browsed the websites but it only refers to the Skills assessment which is currently 9 weeks.
