See how residents of Awolowo road, Ikeja, Lagos struggled to get to their destinations following a heavy downpour which rained across most parts of Lagos state yesterday.

Both those on foot and cars were affected by the downpour. Is Ambode really working?

When there is no proper drainage system, what's what should be expected. Naija got a long way to go. And the leaders are not helping matters at all. Instead of them working,is either they are traveling, parting or laughing themselves out. Hmmmmmm. What a nation!

Eko ni baje o... if for anything let's spare Lag, Tinubu, Fashola and uncle AmbODE the embarrassment of making it look like it's their fault. Lagos seats on water and so does bonny island rivers, delta, bayelsa and so on. They can do better. And you bloody citizens that block the few drainages with filts and kiosks and come here famzing your dead parties should help your selves become more civilized.

Empty this shiit into the lagoon through good drainages.. but, Nahh.. the government would rather work on already developed places!

It has always been like that in Lagos dear. Whenever their is rain, the traffic becomes something else.

Only God knows the cause of this.

Lack of proper planning, most areas in Lagos are below the sea level, was in Sokoto about 3years ago despite been in a semi desert region the drainage system are better compare to that of Lagos. The highbrow areas ain't exempted, some part of Ikoyi & Lekki have shitty drainages which result to flooding of the road after heavy downpour.

There are some areas where flood aren't the cause of traffic jam. If I am to point fingers, I'll point it at those danfo drivers who can stop in the middle of the road just to pick passengers.

Which area did you stay in Sokoto? I'm curious to know.

Greece for one has more habitated island than you could imagine. Judging by your statement there should be constant news of flooding in Greece but my guess is as good as yours that is not the case. My dear rather than coming up with lame excuse call out those who are not living up to the civic responsibility bestowed on them.

Was there for just 5days, stayed at Bello way, visited Nagarta college, Sad Abubakar fly over area, sokoto central market, mamy market among others.
Though danfo drivers contribute a lot to traffic, many roads are also partly submerge during rainfall eg ile epo bus stop, Orile bustop etc & those places lack proper drainage system.

I served in Sokoto. The traffic in Ile Epo bus stop has nothing to do with flood or heavy down pour. It has always been like that. Even now, the road is very bad. Or you want to say the same for Abule Egba bus stop?

Abule egba needs a fly over to reduce the traffic, the bad roads in Ile epo constitute to the traffic & whenever its rains, its flood up to Oja Oba at times, if the road is repair in the morning & rain fall in the afternoon by night back to square one, when next you ply that route check the depth & size of the drainage, not suitable for such area. A standard drainage was constructed along Wenco road in Ogba, same thing should be replicated there.

Dude do you ply this road at all? Whenever it rains it doesnk( flood to Oja Oba. The bad roads there constitute the major traffic.

Even around Super where you have that N.U.R.T.W building, the road there is bad. There was a construction to widen it I believe but it has since been abandoned.

Agreed that the bad road lead to traffic but what normally damage the road is flood without proper drainage there any attempt to repair the road is a waste. I witnessed it yesterday after the heavy downpour, right in from of the local council at Oja Oba is flooded up to Ile epo, we had to reverse & pass through Agege.
I was told that Ile epo has been repaired like 3times this year, at a point its was interlocked yet same result, the only solution is to construct a good drainage & raise the road a little bit.

Ode this is a norm in lagos, don't think there will ever be a way out and beside it's your bia-fraud people that are the cause with there many shops erected besides the road side. If they end up demolishing all those shops now you people will come here and start blaming the govt and yet you people will not want to stay in your under-developed state yet rushing down to lagos to make it by crook or fraud.

That's true, that part of Ile Epo is slanting... I believe that account for the flooding due to poor drainage. Even the market in Ile Epo contribute to the flood, good know where the water from the market is coming from.

Re: See How Lagosians Struggle To Get To Their Destinations After Heavy Rainfall by AdemolaA2: 4:44pm On Oct 09, 2015
Its quite unfortunate we are still at this stage. Drainage systems are very poor in lagos. Bad governance and bad culture of waste disposal by some greedy lagos residents. There should be good maintenance culture checking up on the passage ways for free flow of water. Govt has to be proactive to avert situations like this. Smh for yeyebrity Gov. Ambode!!!
