If really he is a formidable change agent, it would have started from him by making Mehdi go into his shells. Sometimes your responses to your interviewer keeps him on check, interactive or sarcastic or even abusive. Listen to Obama interviews, listen to Uhuru Kenyata or even Mugabe as old as he is.
Guy this man needs to step up. As they denied us from assessing him before election all in the name that after all GEJ avoided same interview the last time. Now they have a job to do by brushing and putting this man to shape.
But unfortunately, he is too dull to learn considering his age and long term absence from educational activities and his passionless attitude to learning. No seminar organised, no book written, no public talk given, no award given by any school am aware of. Just interviews in Hausa etc
Ur hate 4 Buhari will take U no where;u tribalistic bigot. GEJ didn't do any better. Again,if u're not duller than him,u may be the president 2day. *wailing wailer*

President Buhari's response to some of the questions from Mehdi Hasan really leaves much to be desired. Firstly I think pmb was being very economical with the truth when he said that there were improvements to the boko haram situation in the country. In my opinion, only a dishonest person will allude to that.

It is a known fact that despite noticeable attempt to give it poor media reportage, news of attacks by boko haram have not ceased to make headlines since May 29th. We have seen waves upon waves of both coordinated mass attacks and suicide attacks on both civilian and military targets, this has resulted in the death of over 1000 Nigerian souls.

Recent successful mass attacks on security facilities makes nonsense of Buhari's claim of reducing boko haram to just the use of IED's. I see this claim as an insult to my intelligence and that of most Nigerians.

Now another disturbing thing I picked from Buhari's response is his explanation of the December deadline to crush boko haram and the shifting of goal post and trying to give another definition to 'defeating boko haram'. Now Buhari has said that boko haram will be defeated in December this year but from another side of his mouth he is saying he CANNOT guarantee that suicide attacks will end. According to Mr President, 'I will crush boko haram but I cannot guarantee the safety of the lives of Nigerians ' and I'm asking Mr President, are you saying that Nigerians living in Borno and Yobe should relocate or better still they should accept their fate and continue to be bombed?.

Then on the issue of sharia, I think if anything, Buhari has confirmed to the world that he did actually make the infamous 2001 statement credited to him. Mehdi Hasan put it right on Buharis face and he did not deny making that statement. These are signals that should trouble any concerned Nigerian. For those who have forgotten, here is the statement :

“I will continue to show openly and inside me the total commitment to the Sharia movement that is sweeping all over Nigeria”... “God willing, we will not stop the agitation for the total implementation of the Sharia in the country”

I'd love to argue but I respect your different view on the issue. Buhari on 2 different occasions got the name of his party wrong, called "West Germany" among many other mistakes so don't throw shades at GEJ. However as much as Fashola stuttered, he held the Senate more spell bond than anyone has in recent years. IMO, he is more eloquent than PMB.

People make mistakes, I've seen Obama mix up if he's a Christian or Muslim. Knowing party name or people's names is not as important as the qualities Buhari possesses, intelligence, honesty, patriotism, a respectable level of independence, poise, experience, pedigree etc.

Buhari gave good answers to the questions thrown to him with exception to Sharia query. It's unfortunate that ungrateful Nigerians/Nairalanders were the first people to post comments.

I am so surprised that some group of people (either opposition or tribal bigot) mark PMB's response as poor. My opinion he did very well and answered like every leader should.

A lot of this bastards on NL that can't answer half of the questions are writing rubbish here. May I ask what they have achieved in their lives, to talk down on him?

One of Nigeria’s major problem is that it people complain foolishly and are never satisfied with what they have.

What a pity

I agree with you there.
The president seemed to be dodging questions, which must have gotten on the interviewer's nerves...sort of.

Regardless, that's basically what Upfront is all about;
Buhari should have been more than aware what he was signing up for when he agreed to be interviewed by Mehdi.

Apparently based on facts, Mehdi has a mindset that things are currently moving from bad to worse in Nigeria.
The president on the other hand was speaking on the contrary, as someone who is on ground.

He (Buhari) contradicted himself on the Amnesty International report. However, Mehdi gave him credit where due when he said that some staff of the army were sacked on his assumption of office.

The question he was asked on Sharia, and his response leaves much to be desired.
Now, I can confirm that Buhari really uttered those words.

Aside the mild altercation they had, I think it was a fair performance. I have to state though, in my opinion, that Buhari'say as leader in terms of Charisma and Mien is uninspiring, flatly uninspiring.

I liked the interviewer. He didn't sugarcoat his questions. All buhari needed was to give direct answers instead of ambiguous ones.

Do you still support sharia. Yes or no?
Why haven't you found the chibok girls after claiming your predecessor was inept at finding them? Simple simple questions.

...It is becoming apparent Buhari may not be the messiah to emancipate the Nigerian Masses from the grip of corrupt leaders..the change they preached to force their way into power...could it be from bad to worse?...is PMB being honorable to his campaign promises or it is faux change?

My earnest submission is as follows:-

PMB appears honest, he appears to have the will to set things right (but that in itself could be put up for contention, seeing as it hasn't been wholistic). That said, good intentions are never enough, they barely scratch the surface. He doesn't seem to me like one who is fully abreast of happenings, trends and processes in a digitally global village.

PMB is not the leader Nigeria needs at this moment. Even if he were, because the institutions and systems aren't particularly favorable, it might be another case of failure.
I do not pray it is so.

I have never minced words when I tell anyone who cares to read or listen, that vicious lies and black propaganda was what led the current FG to power.

When studied carefully, one will find that the Chibok girls and Boko Haram menace which was a major source of scoring political points for the then opposition has serious political undertones that serve the purpose of those who wield a level of authority over them.
That said, I maintain that there's twice as much we don't know than we do know.

The campaign promises have been denied, there's a concerted effort at the top to muzzle prominent opposition voices (an article by Bimbo Adelakun which isn't on Punch website anymore comes to mind), all in a bid to relegating them to the background. Let's not even talk about the selective witch-hunts which have become the latest fad in town.

I know that wishful thinking alone cannot #BringBackNigeria. But that and my desire to first and foremost, be the change that I desire, is really all I have and can do now.

Promising you are a better person than the incumbent, showcasing yourself as a saint is where the issue is. Now l know and confirm why spectators perform better from the stand and once handed the mantle, excuses will be their watchword. PMB and APC promised to turn Nigeria around within hundred days in office.
But as soon as they entered, they saw the reality and demanded for 100days honeymoon for Buhari. So what they did was to blackmail Jonathan out of power and nothing else, they where never ready and prepared to govern. One Month is more than enough to show us where you are going, just your blue print and nothing else. If you cant show or face where you are going in more than four Months, 4years will be a short time for anything serious to happen.
To tell you that education matters in governance. As a leader you must not rely on your personal assistants always. Their job is to guide and not to take decisions. Idiagbon did it for Buhari then, now Elrufai is doing this time. Buhari lacks economic and political awareness hence he is always pushed around by his HAUSA unofficial aids.
Listen to Uhuru Kenyata, you will know that for you to be qualified as his assistant, you must be very sound.
Take it or leave it, Buhari is an analog president and that is not what Nigeria needs now.

I agree with your views on a lot of levels, but the options are clear and vivid here. GEJ or PMB. Jonathan was also being pushed around like you said of Buhari. He was given a chance of 5 years. I for one, saw little changes. Generally, the country experienced little improvement. We just danced to the tune played to us by voting Buhari in. Let Fashola contest against Buhari and let's see who comes out as the victor. The people are not stupid, they know what's good. But the politics is being played at the top, they won't let the young vibrant ones come out, instead choose the lot for us and ask us to make a decision based on very limited options. You can't compare Nigeria to a lot of places all over the world. This is just one sick, special, cursed, populous and divided nation.

Special yes, sick yes, populous yes, divided yes. But cursed, NO. Nigeria is one of the blessed people on planet Earth.
Just that our leaders and the elites are blind folding us. All we've been hearing is, youths are the future leaders and till tomorrow they will keep saying it and not practicing it. And here we are encouraging them.
Do you know that some of our comments on social media influence their actions hence why he appointed media team first. Sometimes all in the name of being tired of GEJ's government, we fail to tell this present government where they have erred.
We should be able to shower praises on Buhari if he does well and be ready to cast the stone where he goes wrong.

Majority of the questions asked should have been directed to the PAdP government ;

1. Thousands of people killed and 3 million displaced.
2. Human right abuses by military publicized 2003.

He talked about BH stoning women and cutting off then hands of thieves. But what we see here is BH bombing and killin en masse anybody they can find and shooting and killing school boys, abducting school girls, raping and killing . Why was he talking like that?
Was he paid by somebody to harass and be so rude our President.
In my view the President answered the questions very well.

He was asked, "Do you still support sharia?", That was a direct question, which needed a direct answer. But Bubu being the kind of person he is bypassed the question, Even when Mehdi Hassan pressed further, the illiterate got angry and was like "... Let me finish".

Did you even watch the interview??... He was just blabbing.
Can you see how dumb you are? Be fast to listen but be careful to respond. So if you were the one, if they ask you a direct question as the president of this great country, you will give them a direct answer. I can see your ineptitude in governance.
