In line with the NUC's approval, we still need to work on our education sector so we can move it to the next level. |

Hmm hee ho....a medical training thread....and they did not call me? Shocking! 1.)I spent over 6 years in medical school (no thanks to strikes)...so I think that if the seven year show was around during my time...... 2) Well, I hope the extra year is to allow us spend more time in departments like ENT, Ophthalmology, Psychiatry, Public Health , and it ought to include two months rural posting. If not.....waste of time. 3) The major issue affecting medicos is the outdated syllabus and lack of facilities.Plus...they ought to train us on how to communicate better with patients (Not how to interview patients, how to communicate with them). We also need more medical schools....like five in each state with teaching hospitals (I have a dream! ). 4.)All in all...we need details of this seven year stuff. IMO.....they should spend more time on facilites and syllabus and less time on extending our stay in medical school. (Like sitting down and forming student, while your mates who read Painting are working in big banks, earning big kudi is not funny!)> 5 Likes |

Why are this people even wasting our time, knowing fully well that most of those that will graduate will still graduate as half baked medical personnels after spending those years |

Our leaders misplace priorities. Extending years of medical training isn't the solution to the claimed problem. The quality of training and schemes of exposure is what should be worked upon. Extension of years in training unveils weekness if trainers. Not all those that repeated years in medical school automatically got better than those who finished ahead of them. The NUC should work on strategic training and mentorship of students into specialist training into postgraduate years. A lot of students spend more than this already. Except hands-on experience is introduced into this 1year extension, I see it as unnecessary. 4 Likes |

Unnecessary exaggeration. How then about dentistry? It will amount to a catastrophe to spend 7years just to know how to take care of teeth. Upon graduating after seven years what will then be their title? OK prof. Goodluck to them |

This is complete nonsense! If they like let them make it 20yrs it dosn't guarrantee quality doctors. Let them provide good facilites, 4yrs is enough to produce good and competent doctors. We travel to india for treatment, what is the duration of their medical students? 4yrs! Yet we do 6yrs and still travel to india for medical treatment. Who is fooling who? The problem here in nigeria is that we spend 6yrs doing theoritical aspect of medicine instead of practical aspect to perfect it well. So increasing the years will still have no affect. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Somebody need to tell dis pple dat is nt the number of years in school that mk u proficient but d quality of training. Medical education(including postgraduate) is mostly theory based wic is nt good for d system. Most medical stdents graduate and d only tin day know is stuff bt practical is zero. We can acheive four years of med skull if we incoperate more practical based courses and more postings. This also goes with med lab(5yrs), Nursing(5yrs),pharmacy(5yrs). 1 Like |

This is too bad. Why are our leaders always clueless like this? They decided to do something clueless because it doesn't cost them any money. What they are meant to do, they left it because it will cost them money. Selfish and inconsiderate leaders Facilities and equipments are what we need not extra years you dumbwits!!! 5 Likes |
