That figure is a dodecagon (polygon with 12 sides)
With n=12, i.e. number of sides, Total angle in a dodecagon = 180 (n-2) = 180 (12-2) = 1800 degrees.
Therefore, each internal angle = 1800/12 = 150 degrees.
The triangle formed is isosceles, i.e. has 2 sides of equal length and the angles opposite those sides also equal.
So, in the triangle formed, you have the 2 angles at the base to be 75 degrees.
Since the angles in a triangle sum up to 180 degrees, X is therefore 180 - 75 -75 = 30 degrees.

This is JSS geometry.

D) 60deg. Angles in a circle = 360. Since there are 12 chords, angle at the inside of each chord triangle is 30, the sides of the chords 75 each (angle inside triangle = 180). Including the ones on the other coin = 75×4 = 300. So x is 60. (Angle round a circle is 360deg)

It's 60 degrees.



Total sum of internal angles in a polygon = (n-2)*180

For a 12-sided polygon, it's (12-2)*180 = 1800

Thus, each internal angle is 1800/12 = 150.

The next part is hard to explain without diagrams, though.

For the 2 adjacent coins, the sum of their internal angles where they meet is 150 + 150 = 300.

At that point, the total angle is 360 degrees (angle around a point, or in a circle)

Thus, the angle X = 360 - 300 = 60 degrees

Long time I did such maths...but it is cheap.
The angle between both coins is 60°.


The internal angle at each edge of the 12-sided polygon

= ((12-2)*180)/12 = 150°


The angle between both polygons

= 360 - (150*2) = 60°

Formula for total angles in shapes.

50 cent had 12 angles.

12 - 2 (180) = 1800

Equal sides in a 12 sided shape means that each angle is 150 i.e 1800 divided by 12

If we draw a line between the two coins, X in the picture will be divided into two.

Each side of a straight line is 180 degrees. X is on both sides of the line. The inside angle (angle in the 12 sided coin) of both sides of the line is 150. So each side for X is 180 minus 150.


Each side of X is 30 degrees. That means that X itself is 60 degrees

x is 60.. Note that the x is placed outside the coins, so its the angle of the of one of the equilateral triangleS, which inadvertently = 60.
