How Do Eastern Cities Compare With Each Other? by Afam4eva(m): 2:42pm On Nov 30, 2015
I'm fascinated by cities and recently I have been on the road in the east. I have visited Enugu, Owerri and Aba briefly and u intend spreading my tentacles soon. I stayed longer in Owerri and the truth is, I never expected what I saw in Owerri. I was expecting it to be one of those normal towns. I really didn't expect the kind of city life it possesses. One thing that tickled my fancy is the fact that it has a high population of educated folks especially students.

As for Enugu, I didn't really spend much time but I've been there severally though yet to tour the nooks and crannies but based on the reviews, its probably the best rounded city in the SE.

I'm currently in Aba and honestly there's nothing to say about the city other than the fact that it's a rejected and dejected town. I can't even bring out my camera to take pictures because there's nothing to snap. i can't risk my camera getting spoiled by the horrible scenery. It's just pathetic. The town needs a renaissance. All the roads should be constructed from scratch by juliua Berger and roads should also be constructed into the inner streets. An attempt should also be made to beautify the city. As I'm talking to you, there is no beautiful part of Aba. Everywhere just seems rough and unkempt. God save Aba.

Now back to my topic, for those who are frequent visitor of Enugu, Owerri, Aba, Onitaha and Asaba and Uyo. How do these towns compare to each other. I asked a girl who has visited Asaba and she said Asaba is better than Owerri and I was shocked as I always saw Asaba as an upcoming city. I also read a statement somewhere that Uyo has a better infrastructure than the revered Enugu. How true is this? I'll like to compare and contrast the pros and cons of these towns.

Asaba is not better than owerri. Aba is currently a construction site and it will become better soon.

I'm from Asaba and I'm very not happy with Asaba, owerri is light years ahead of Asaba.

If you don't mind, can you explain in what ways Owerri is better than Asaba.

As for Aba being a construction site, I'm yet to see any construction going on anywhere.

The major roads you will see in Asaba are nnebisi, okpanam and summit road, these roads look very dusty, asaba lacks greens, Asaba lacks inner-roads. Owerri has more plyable roads than Asaba, owerri is generally more beautiful than Asaba, owerri has more dualized roads than Asaba, owerri is neater than Asaba and I think owerri is bigger than Asaba. Owerri is generally more of a city than Asaba.

Owerri is cool. I miss that town everyday. Clean environment with over 80% educated and reasonable people.

If you think Aba is bad, try Onitcha.

That's what tripped me about Owerri. The folks there are educated and reasonable. Just today alone I have exchanged words with about 3 people in Aba. The difference is just clear. In addition with the .massive construction work that Aba needs, it needs at least 2 new tertiary institutions. University of Aba and Aba central university.

Owerri (ebe ngwori) and Enugu (obodo oringo) are my favorite SE cities in terms of infrastructure, cleanliness, social activities, mentality and refinement of the people and peace of mind. I usually had a particular disgust for the twin cities of Aba and Onitsha for their rowdiness and filth; however, my recent trip to Onitsha few months ago completely left me dumbfounded. Whoever says a pig will always remain a pig definitely hasnt been to Onitsha lately. With good governance, ANYTHING can be achieved. I was particularly wowed by the european quality of even the most unimportant roads (all marked) within the city, not to talk of the cleanliness and fresh air. Someone who never went to Onitsha 10years ago will never understand my point.

Sadly, Aba is still a dejected huge refuse dump. Abians really need deliverance from useless leaders.

Uyo seems like the future to me as the plan is to make it a mega city.

Uyo is already flying in infrastructure but need to meet up in beautiful modern private residences and businesses to complement the infrastructures. Unless it will continue to look like a City Town with highways.

Why are people always making mistake in believing that if you don't have a high rising buildings, then the said place shouldn't be regarded as a city. Is unfair to downgrade Uyo on this assumption. Even before Uyo started having roads, the place was already set for greatness. While a Maritime Academy Student at Oron, I frequent there once in a while in 2005, always look calm and peaceful with nice vegetations sprang almost in every part of the state. There are many European countries without all these high rising buildings but still stand tall with their counterparts elsewhere.

OP, by God's I have been to all your above mentioned cities. You will be unfair to Aba cos is the odd one out since is not a capital city and hence attention was not not properly given to it.

ABA
One of the city with the best road networks aside Lagos surprise! Yes thats the gospel truth. Aba indigenes need to help government vice versa. A situation where the altitude of an average resident sucks on sanitary issues. I was at Azikiwe road to see my tailor on a sanitation day I had left early to avoid been caught by the Nigerian Police in PH. On getting to Aba that was assumed to be a sanitation day, none of the shop owners were engaged in this monthly exercise. They told me that, they didn't see any reason to join in the exercise. I also noticed carbages littered everywhere in the city.
You still have some decent places at Aba ala GRA and its environs.

ASABA
As someone said, not really much to excite one, just a quite city with fewer major roads and have town planning issues cos most of the new layouts road networks are thrashed. Still a decent place to wine down though.

ENUGU
Op I was wowed when I visited the coal city earlier last year to see... ( e no concern you). As you are ascending the city from Enugu-PH road into Enugu, Arab Contractors stable welcomes you taking you to several dualized roads inside the city. Places my host took me to are New Heaven, Shoprite and some random estates occupied by some well-to-do.
Is the most beautiful city in the whole of south eastern .

OWERRI
Uko Nwanyi Owerri... I can't forget my excapade there. Trust me na as a Rivers man, I did enjoy those demons that were trying to tempt a man of God. How can they say PH have the highest people living with HIV when Owerri should be taken an assailable lead
Decent city with her fair share of roads , only noticeable industry in that state are hotels. Agbagworo hope you are married and faithful cos dose Ukwu can make a man of God forget John 3:16.

UYO
As someone earlier said, a new kid on the block. Can we for once dismiss this motion that a city must have several high rising buildings to qualify as one?

CALABAR
The most beautiful city in aside Abuja.

Op,owerri is far better than asaba both in terms of roads, liveliness, economy e.t.c,owerri has more estates than asaba and owerri is also ahead of asaba in terms of development.owerri is also larger than uyo and more lively than it,the only thing uyo is ahead over owerri is road network.enugu is far better than them all.

Now that Afam has visited and spent some time in Owerri he is in a position to know the true looks of Owerri. As for Aba there is hope now with Ikpeazu but Onitsha has left it behind in infrastructure. It will take 16 years of special attention and cooperation of residents to get Aba to a moderate level in city infrastructure. Enugu, Owerri and Calabar stand out in terms of quality and affordable life while Port Harcourt is the most developed and expensive. Uyo is still upcoming and has a very long way to go.

Op, for us in Aba, we know there are lots of work going on and there are many many things to be done too.

And why do people always try to be mischievous, people never mention Umuahia that is in standard of Owerri or even better.

I was in Umuahia all thru the weekend and I was marveled, T.A was wicked to Enyimba people but he took his time to develop Umuahia
