WOW! Gorgeous! So why can they not use this as a tourism attraction to raise the IGR? This is huge and should be promoted and expanded into a National treasure. So much potential being waisted on talking drums.

I hope one daft governor will not go and buy the land and start building useless houses that will decay and rot. They should pass laws to prevent human encroachment ASAP.

Lovely pictures though, thanks to the good camera used.

However, sights as these are not strange in the South-Southern parts of Nigeria.( Ikot Abassi, I hail. )

I appreciate the savannah's thick Canopy, it should be protected.

also, that area must be housing large reptiles, crocodiles, pythons and many more.

Can't see any elephant here....

This Forest elephant was caught on camera by heat sensitive cameras strategically placed throughout the reserve, some years ago.

What you see right there is worth it's weight in gold
This goes especially to those omoluabi who think staying in Nigeria is better than going it alone.

Hmmm this same forest reserve that I was for 10 weeks last year??

Its not a place just anyone can go and have fun oo.

the place is underfunded and almost dead sef. Only destructive logging activities is what's left happening there.

No network, water and electricity again. Even the guest house is left unused

The bamboo groove, water fall and fish lake nko?? all out of it

Bad road and every other infrastructure is spoilt and unreplaced.

Only that bailey bridge crossing over the Omo river is still existing. It leads to the Elephants camp.

However, I enjoyed myself there but trust me you gotta be a forester or environmentalist to persevere and appreciate whats left of the place.

The place remains a natural resources reserve.

Michellla, lets get lost in this beautiful forest together. cheesy
Then they'll post pictures of us on FP with the caption: "Two Good-looking Nairalanders Missing!"
And nairalanders will be like "Awww....beautiful people. I hope they're found". Dechandel will join them in saying that too, but deep inside she'll be like "Yes! Yes!! Yes!!! He wee just be disturbing my mentions anyhow. I hope he's nefa found. He should just stay there and become African Tarzan. Phew! Poor girl though". Dechandel, what did I ever do to you to make you say hurtful things to me in my imagination? I'm very mad at you right now. cheesy

Ever since the funding stopped, the place has been a shit hole for tourism.

However, few of its natural resources potential and biodiversity values remain.
Re: Omo Shasha Oluwa Forest Reserve (Pictures) by Nobody: 7:45pm On Jan 12, 2016
Quite a shame that thousands of Nigerians go abroad every year for tourism while we have a lot of place to visit at the backyard.

Though I am not going to place the entire blame of the foot of the masses but on FG. I think the minister of Tourism isn't doing a good job of show casing our tourist potential and more all the so called travel agency are yet to tap fully into it.

Do not be discouraged, visit the place. It is fun.

Get there early enough (in the morning), so that you can make it through all the falls and the water source.

Presently, it's 500 naira per adult.

You're right. There are many.
See also Okomu National Park in Edo. Okomu Oil traded on NSE is from same area.
Though smaller than this, has 150 bird species and many endangered species of fauna & Flora. Already gazetted by colonial government in 1935!

They have chalets for guests & tourists to rent. Very nice.
