Ijaws are the riverine people of Southern Nigeria. They live by the waters cos they're mainly fishermen by tradition. Ijaws can be found in Bayelsa, Delta, Edo, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Rivers, Ondo and even a fraction of them can be found in Benin Republic, Togo, Sierra Leone and Gabon. They're no doubt great travellers and very adventurous in nature.

Ijaws are one of the most detribalised ethnic groups in Nigeria. I remember when I was in Burutu last year, I was treated as one of them. One would not even be able to distinguish an indigene and myself cos I was treated like an indigene and given every privilege that was entitled to an Indigene. Whenever they go fishing, we were given fish and we always have fish pepper soup that day. The Chairman of that LGA always comes to check on us and even shares a drink with us. The youngest lawmaker in the history of Nigeria is an ijaw man by name Julius Pondi representing Burutu Federal Constituency. Ijaws are one of the most accommodating people in Nigeria and also ijaws are very brave. They're not afraid to take on anyone.

Someone on nairaland called ijaws land grabbers, boat dwellers, swamp settlers and drunken fishermen. How are ijaws land grabbers? Have they grabbed your land before? Ugomba should stop saying nonsense and calling my ijaw brothers land grabbers. Ugomba accused the ijaws of having an agenda. Please what agenda Ugomba? Why would ijaw want to grab your wastelands? Does your land have any economic value that ijaws would want to grab?

I've done that bros. I'm still wondering how someone can just manufacture lies in a twinkle of an eyes just to set those of us in SS apart. What do they intend to gain by doing so?

A non-Ijaw should learn to mind his business. You can write about your glorious Bini kingdom and nobody would blink an eye lid.
Come back when you've written an article about your Edo group and how you think you don't posess land grabbing traits. Maybe, we would take you serious.

do yourself a favour and mind your ipob business. We are talking SS here and not Biafra. Yet thank God you know my tribe had a glorious empire. I'll certainly write about that soon. But for now stay off ijaw and SS thread.

@ Op, I don't think it is just about Ijaws, I think generally, the average man on the street in SS are very warm to visitors and strangers. I remember how frequently I was given a ride by total strangers when I served there. Some of their men could be very lazy sha cheesy but the women are unbelievably hardworking and. Very resourceful.

I enjoyed my time there in all honesty as I spent time in Burutu, Patani, Ughelli, Asaba, Yenagoa, Isele-Uku, Uvwie, Warri South, Sapele, Por Harcourt and Ekpoma.

What they really care about is how a friendship could be mutually beneficial to them and have little regard for what tribe you are. They also thought Benue is predominantly made up of Hausas/Muslims. cheesy

They used to laugh at me when I use the word "ba" as in "guy, see ba ...." They'd be like- wetin be "ba"?? cheesy

#Nostalgic.

Pls is wewe an ijaw name? Or is bekebe an Ijaw name? If yes, then I've met a good friends from bayelsa before.
.

Anyway, they label you guys lands grabber cos one of you decided to claimed obigbo(the most popular igbo territory in rivers state) to be an ijaw territory.
The abandoned property saga after war, is one good reason to remember you guys as land grabber till date.
The ikwerres re angry with us(igbos) for allowing you guys to gain accessed into ph town via abandoned property saga.

You said ijaws re detribalised tribe? Re you sure? If they re, but not all, cos people like you op and tonye re very tribalistic dudes I ever met on nairaland.
............
People like dearpreye, I respect his kind of lifestyle. very mature than kids here claiming ijaws here..grin
We naija delta grin
...............
Spainish ko barca ni

Ugomba is part of niger delta, so he has every right to go against you guys. Deal with that.

There are no Ijaw's in Akwa Ibom and Cross River state. Stop claiming other peoples land to avoid trouble stay in your side. Our states were carefully created to ensure that only our people live in it, Efik, Ibibio, Ananng, Oron, Eket, Obolo. None of us are ijaw. Leave us out of your fights and land grabs...

Where do you think Western obolo is? Who do you think the Andonis(Rivers state) are?
