I really hate reading expositions like this, they just leave one feeling really sad and depressed. Things like this just removes all the doubt in my mind about the black man being under a very heavy spell, a spell which we can only break by ourselves. For God's sake, why can't the black man ever just get anything done right??

Even with this expose, I don't believe the FG in its lazy nonchalant ways will still do anything about this, I am not surprised by the cold response of the solid minerals' ministry to the author's proposals; I must confess, I have gradually started losing confidence. Meanwhile just a while ago, the same Kayode Fayemi was literally begging the Yanks to come help us develop the solid minerals' industry. undecided cry

But it was going to benefit all regions na?? Oshogbo, Warri, Jos, Kaduna all had steel plants that would have benefited from Ajaokuta while Enugu has coal that would have been used to run the trains.....All regions were supposed to benefit from these projects. This is aside the jobs that would have been created as a result so why didn't they let it work?

It's not tribalism alone comrade......There's something inherently evil in the Nigerian that makes him/her work to destroy his own people, community and nation so easily angry

Good lord.

When it comes to the Black situation especially that of Nigeria;

THE DEVIL IS A SAINT...

WE ARE TO WICKED TO OURSELVES...

We are the enemy of progress not the western-world nor the Indians...

beautiful piece! and this research was done by a woman? wow! I hope the researcher can get this piece to media houses that appreciate investigative journalism like Sahara reporters for widespread coverage.

Modified: someone help me, I'm having some sort of serious bile filled hatred for indians recently, am I xenophobic?

I wish such thorough investigation be done to every government establishment. The stink will be hard to bear. Selfish black African dream murderers have kept us at the lowest rungs of humanity since independence.

This is kinda depressing. Stuff like this should be treated with urgency especially with this desperate situation we're in right now.

The OP has shown patriotism at its best, its a pity that many of our leaders are unpatriotic. Imagine how many years since this project started and it has not produced any steel. Like you said it is bogged down by international and local conspiracy. The steel market is worth billions of dollars thats why the Indians who see Africa as their market are sabotaging it. Buhari is a progressive, I think you should find a way to present this to him directly. God bless you.

U need to see the facility yourself. I almost wept the first day I say the plant... This single company if revatilized will go along way in complementing the diversification effort of the APC led federal government. The time to act is now!

I think we must raise our voice and demand that after a careful investigative journalism done action must be taken as a matter of urgency. lets make our voice known. i think this article should be made to circulate round. so even if the present government doesnt want to take it serious we push them to work.

We have met the enemy and he is us. It is not too late to redeem ourselves. Kudos to the researcher and op for bringing this to light. We should try to keep the debate alive. It's the least we can do. In my own little way, I'll act.

Exactly why i thought to put it up here. Our voices should be heard, as this is a project with a potential to affect almost every sector of our economy.

My funny observation which some might see it as stupid is that, we have only less than 55 people who has dropped one or two comments here... At least 90% of it all are sensible. Unlike all other threads with gigantic numbers of commentators but no reasonable contributions.

I was shivering whilst reading this piece. God, should would we as a citizen starts giving street judgements to all these politicians or what.

I hope the media aides to the president, Vice President and minister for steel and mining are reading this..

My hearts bleeds. Nigeria will be great again.

This calls for urgent and decisive action by the Federal Government. If an individual can go this lenght to plead for the revival of ASCL, then the FGN must stop sleeping over this issue.

When i read some stories of how we Nigerians actively destroy the same Nigeria, i'm tempted to believe God concession-ed the creation of Nigerians to one wicked entity who was offended by his wife just before he started the work.....

My dad who worked for a German steel company told me a story very similar to this but it was very difficult to believe that time...until i read this piece today.

How can human beings enjoy hurting themselves so much?? cry cry cry

I can tell you a story about my dad when he was in the civil service and Julius Berger was still a small startup company from Germany.

The Lagos-Badagry Expressway (JB's first major project in Nigeria) was a contract JB got after presenting the smallest, most professional quote of all the firms that tendered.

After the tender, the 'Ogas' called the Germans aside and told them "See, that's not how we do things here. You can't present a bill this small and get a contract in Nigeria."

And to cut a long story short, more than 15 ogas had houses built for them or substantial cash kickbacks paid to them after JB re-tendered and came out with a winning bid of more than 15 times their initial estimate.

That was when JB decided to set up shop permanently in the autocidal sweetheart country known as Nigeria.

True story.

This country's darkness did not begin today.

I am just about to hit the road, will drop some lines from a book by Martin Meredith (the state of Africa) - dedicated to our politicians and doing business in Nigeria post independence.

The write up on Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited is a nice piece. However the writer omitted some salients point. Some of the people that colluded with SOLGAS a fraudulent company selected to bring the steel plant to life today are the ones managing the place today. Unless they are flushed out of the system, the project will be a pipe dream. Let our government look for ways of reviving our economy through Agriculture, the steel sector in Nigeria is a very hopeless case. God bless Nigeria
