so expect you expect an African to be able to speak English more than their own language... you're smoking british weed... the main problem we have is Nigeria's unity... Nigerian education should be in local language.. so that people like will not exist and think they are better than people who speak their language better than a foreign language...
I understand you..but there is nothing as good as you can speak your local tongue as fluent as you can speak English, waec subjects are not written in our local tongue but in English, how do you intend to pass well without been able to express yourself in English,so far as it is our lingua franca we should be fluent in it.i speak my native tongue well and I am fluent in English ,i can interact with pple from any tribe..what differentiates the educated from the non educated is the ability of the former to interact and express himself to pple..I have met 'educated' pple who can't make friends with pple from other tribes because they cant express themselves to them,if you passed through sec sch and u are like that then your school fees was a waste

And we won't be so worry in the south west is that when I was in service in Abia state, all External exams was boldly written for them on the chalkboard. We have practice that in the south west but return back to read and pass when we detected the gap in the higher institution. At the University level! Are they the best? Compare the number of first class graduate south west produce to south east, Are they the best in Jamb? Are they the best in law school? All r No. we are mature than malpractise

I had all my education in the south west so lets not go there. when humans are not saints there is no state that is not involved in malpractice. Granted, the south east are also involved but saying that malpratice is the reason for their recents success is fallacious

Most schools in the south west are scams, most especially the private schools. The quality of hands recuited is so poor. Teachers and administrators are only interested in making money off the parents.
In most cases, parents are to busy or ignorant to diffrentiate between a school with capable background and one that is just packaging the school.
I was in enugu and delta mid last year and i was amazed at the quality of teachers trained to lecture jss students. The admin was up and doing. Here in lagor and SW, most teachers and admins are mostly educational retards only interested in making money.
Though, there are few exceptions but majority are poor at teaching, this includes the so-called "big man" schools.

You are right, everything that has an advantage also has a disadvantage -it should be balanced. But I still believe that the use of smart phone amongst high school students, entertainment on TV and the rest are the major cause.

But the south west would still dominate in the bussiness and labour sector because all we the south south and the south east think is only school while the people from the south west after or before schooling are going for other proffesional training and leadership certifation programmes to boost their cv, therefore beating you with 9 A's in the labour market any day any time.

We can beat them in exams, but they calculates the bussiness and the labour market more than us.
Have you being to the south east to know how they take on education?
IMO has the highest number of professors in Nigeria

As an anambra man..my kids are in primary school in Lagos but once it secondary school u wil see them in anambra ..they will school there

You have quality education there
There they would be igbonized properly

I hope you communicate with them in igbo, and not hoping that they will learn the language when you finally send them to anambra.

The Igbo Language needs to be revived among the young ones today.

Yeah, it's my problem coz you obviously lack the moral right to gloat over perceived underperformance of others when even you can't correctly spell 'dumb'. You repeated the blunder like.. 3 frigging times dude Obviously you didn't know better but now you know the correct spelling but you're still unwilling to acknowledge your error and move on. Na your kind dey pass WAEC via expo yet end up a low-life.

I'm more worried about yoruba. They almost came last. Can you imagine that Boko haram troubled states like Borno and Adamawa are ahead of a yoruba state? I can't believe this.

To completely understand the dynamics, you need to factor in the number of children from South-Western states who no longer take the WASSCE exam. I believe there's a small but rising number of kids taking foreign exams as a substitute for WASSCE in the SW. Kids schooling abroad, the sub-region inclusive, and the likes also decrease that percentage.

With all that said, there's also something called the "optimum effect" which may explain low trends in the SW.

its not about passing well... its about passing once... the SE may have the highest scores does not mean the SW is failing and performing below average... There are more private universities in SW than any other region.. If the SE gets 9 A's including maths and english and the SW gets 5 C's including maths and english... Both of them still end up going to the university.

govt should be more concerned about University graduates than WAEC holders.. and boost technical education.
yea u are right. besides.so many pple failed major exams in their lives but it still did not deter them from been great..I think we should be more concerned with empowerment because some pple actually fail not because they are dull but simply because they can't express themselves..to those who pass well please put it to good use

Rochas should be changed by the balls for taking Imo from the 1st position to the 5th position.

Obiano should watch it. We won't accept playing second fiddle to our brothers from Abia. We are the light of the nation. He should not dim the light.

Well, let me quickly add mine.
Let me start by saying the standard of secondary and primary education in the Southwest is very low. I had my primary, secondary and university education in southwest and I can say I'm not impressed. I served in the north so I can say the standard up north is even worse. I've not been to the east or South south so I can't say anything about their standard of education. However, the education sector especially at the primary and secondary level needs lot of infrastructural and manpower improvement.

No need to be worried until d SE start developing their own lands.. and stop roaming about

what's d benefit of profs. bookworms when you have nothing to show for it... only eroded lands etc.

Let me educate you a bit why is Lagos developed? Do you think if the East had a seaport lagos will view its rear? The main reason easterners were craving for jonathan was because they wanted a seaport....IF the River Niger can be dredged and big ships can come in do you think the amount of activities in lagos port will be the same? Look at port cities around the world (portnovo, douala etc) they more commercialised than their capitals.....why is Lagos developed? You have Federal presence in lagos like NPA and HQ of most organisations that capitalised on the port these activities also attracted financial institutions...it's a chain reaction....Now besides federal universities there is No other federal presence in the SE. Although I was born in lagos, I have visited the North, SS etc....i can tell you that if not for marginalisation......The SE won't be at par with any region in Nigeria....Lagos enjoyed federal presence as the former capital of Nigeria, Ibadan enjoyed a city status because prior to Independence SW was the richest part of Nigeria. That is why you have UI there. Being one of the first universities in W.Africa the city enjoyed inflow of people and commercial activities. If I set up a business in the SE, do the people there have the purchasing power to buy? If this region were to be like the North that sits and Waits for the national cake do you think they will achieve the little they have achieved? After being ravaged by the civil war (which killed prominent scholars) they still bounce back....let them roam about...let them carry on with their business after all, they pay taxes and rents. What about the herdsmen that don't pay taxes, rent etc? What about suya man and mai tea that don't pay taxes and rent? They set up at night and disappears next day......Your problem is simple "Hatred and Envy".....I am happy am a Nigerian and Happier that I am Igbo.

From the south-east to the south-west and down to the north education is generally bad in Nigeria and needs urgent attention. Apart from the lack of infrastructures and incentives from the government to teachers, kids these days do not show any desire to learn. How can one explain the fact that an average eight-year-old in lagos knows the lyrics of efejoku off hand but doesn't know how many continents we have in the world ?. Take a trip to any jamb center most prospective undergraduates students writing the exam are more interested in any expo they can lay theirs hands on before the exam starts. The moral decadence social media has caused is a topic for another day. That was how one jamb student boasted to me how he scattered post ume exam immediately after the test. well, I was curious to know the type of questions that was asked. He told me in the current affairs they asked "who the senate president was", I was like the questions are cheap oo. something just told me to ask him and when I did he said " is it not David mark" I shook my head in disbelief with all the news of saraki then when his corruption case just started with CCT I knew he would fail and yes he failed woefully.

My brother, na so we see am.

Nonsense. I was speaking to an older yoruba man today, a client and a good friend, what he said was this generation of yoruba are just plain lazy and a complete failure. They are complacent, lazy and live on the fruits and hardwork of the older yoruba generation. Every success made by their generation in education, has been eclipsed by Igbos. He agreed that the Igbos led in education prior to the war, but after the war they were disadvantaged and coupled with the free education Awolowo gave yorubas while he was starving the Igbos explained why they couldn't compete however since they recovered, they have reclaimed their rightful position. My point is older generation of yoruba worked harder despite being at an advantage but this generation is an abysmal failure.

I am a core core Yoruba (Ile ife) man but I love the spirit of our Igbo and SS brothers, they represent everywhere in everything in Nigeria from business to football, entertainment, entrepreneurship, innovation, education just name it the only aspect I don't like is that they also lead in bad aspects like drug peddling and kidnapping while you hardly hear of kidnapping in the SW nor North its an everyday thing in the SS and SE, but in all sha I love their spirit they are never behind in anything be it Good bad and ugly.
