Asagba is the title the office is obi of Asaba

So talk what you know

Where is ugomba

Their is nothing like the Obi of Asaba in Asaba tradition, Obi is like chief, but a higher chief in Asaba, ie Obi Onyia, Obi Okonnee etc.
In Asaba you can have as many Obi as possible in any quarter, its a matter of financial prowess.
That obi you have mistakenly referred to is a the obi chieftaincy title that those obis take after ikpaalor, which all prerequisites of being an ASAGBA

People prefer to believe that Moses parted the Red Sea with his rod so his "people" could walk on dry land and subsequently Jehovah rained manna from heaven to feed the Hebrews for forty years in the desert. That is a more credible story.

More credible than what? The fact that Ife is the spiritual home of Yorubas and it represents the peak of Yoruba civilisation, or Oyo was the peak of Yoruba empire status, no? Brev, stop talking about Yoruba history by trying to cause confusion - leave it to those who understand it.

I saw what you wrote yesterday about Yoruba commonwealth. Even ya ludicrous comments on that thread show that you don't understand what the term "commonwealth" connotes. The fact that the people have the same culture, language, tradition etc. signify a commonwealth. You always think you're smarter than you're but it's a shame you can't see that ya opinions are always contradictory and counter-intuitive. You need to do better.

Yes, I quoted you. But ya post was based on what I posited about vassals cos no one on the thread alluded to it apart from me.

Lmao @ being intelligent after posting something ludicrous that you can't back up with a direct and simple answer, hence you keep going around in circles, speaking in tongues. I bet it's either you didn't think it through before posting it or you don't know much about Yoruba history/culture/tradition, especially when it comes to kingship.

I believe in ya mind, ya argument was going to be centered around the Oba of Lagos, who's more like the of the Oba of Eko and Aworiland than Lagos state. You never considered the fact that there are prominent Ijebu kings in Lagos and an Ogu king - who're just on the same level as the Oba of Lagos, and an Awori king can never preside over an Ijebu king. That's why I had to use that to counter ya preposterous assertion and the premise it's based on. Next time, think something through before posting, smart arse. You did the same on the Davido thread grin

Even in Lagos, the Oniru and all the other Ijebu kings in Lekki/Ajah axis won't even concede superiority to the Oba of Lagos. That's the truth. grin

Step up, son.
Step up to Milan as the capital of Italy? I am not quite clear why you quoted me or what it is that you want from me? I am not sure where we are going with this. You are now imposing an opinion I never voiced on me

You seem to have some self esteem issues and a need to compensate ,we are now going back to Davido thread

Hahaha What a sensitive little boy!!! Is that what this is about ? Really pathetic! Davido your god was blasphemed against? grin
So that has scarred you for life?

it important to state it that the Bini's people have never in any part of time be a part of the Yoruba race, but the crown could be.
Although its on record too that, the period of political interregnum created an avenue in 1400AD after the death of ogiso Owodo without a clear heir to the throne, which lead to the despatch of Uzama or council of 12 elders to Ife. Truely a Yoruba prince by the name Oronmiyan came to Benin but He couldn't cope because he was not used to the people and their way of life. hence, the phrase; 'ile e ibinu'. so he left, but not after impregnating the daughter of, the Ogie(chief) Uselu a surb-urb of the capital and she gave birth to his son, by the name Eweka the first. Who now reigned in his position, while he returned to ife.
African history has always generated series of problems for historians of African extraction, due to the lack of available data for proper record keeping. As historians have always relied on oral traditions or folk tales. This system of data collection has been fraught with errors as some vital parts of information are usually distorted for personal gains.
This has been and will always be the challenge that historians of African extraction faces as regards records such as the one raised above. This argument like this will always continue to arise and there will always be argument and counter argument .

That was a mistake on my part and I take it back. However, that doesn't negate the fact that Milan today is the most relevant city in Italy politically and economically - just as Lagos is in Nigeria. And that was the premise of ya argument. But Rome will always be Rome, the city that defined Italian history and the home of the Romans.

You always think you're intelligent by talking in circles, but you're not. The same way you went on and on, on the Davido thread before you were disgraced and schooled on there.

How about answer the question since Lagos is the most relevant city today? Is the Elepe superior to the Awujale cos Lagos is far more important today than the relics in Ijebu Ode? Ditto Ayangburen of Ikorodu and Oniru? My pop is from Epe and no one in Ijebu Epe would ever say that. Step up ya game.

No...obi isn't like chief Obi is paramount ruler or main palace ..so the title obi of Asagba is apt and that is the way the man is been addressed and he has never objected to that

Chiefs are also known as Nze,Oso and other titles not Obi ,Igwe ..these are specific names

It is indisputable that Oba is a titular position and belongs to Yoruba culture, not Benin.

So why is King of Benin a titular Omo n'Oba (the descendant of Oba), can the Benin palace give us clarity on this?

Omo n'oba means "The One or person who is King" in Edo language.

This is ignorance of the highest order. Oduduwa was a son of Ogiso Owodo who was ordered to be killed for openly opposing the activities of his wicked father. The executioners let him go and deceived the king with a kid blood stain on their machete. Before they let him go, they warned him not to mention where he came from but rather say he climbed a chain from heaven because they knew if he said so, the executioners would be executed. That is the origin of Yoruba belief that Oduduwa climbed down with a chain. Years past and Benin rebelled against the wicked Ogiso and was a republic for some time. During that time, Benin was exposed to attack within and without due to lack of strong leadership. Benin resolved not to go back to the dark era of the Ogisos but rather chart a new course. During that period, one of the would be executioners confessed that Oduduwa was not killed but rather exiled and they could look for him. They were ordered to look for him and they met him old at Ife. He recognized them and told them he already had his own kingdom established but would let his son Oranmiyan to go with them. Oranmiyan could not rule in Benin because he was brought up under a different culture. He felt Benin people are full of vexation and named them Ile Ibinu which was corrupted the Benin. This Oranmiyan gave birth to Eweka who later became the first Oba. This is the truth. Benin kingdom is the oldest around here and extended to present day Republic of Benin. They founded Lagos as a war camp. One thing that is for sure is that before the advent of Oduduwa, Yorubas existed with some existing kings but Oduduwa prevailed just like the Hausas were existing and had kings before the advent of Uthman Dan Fodio.

Stop trivializing issues, people want to learn the truth if it is possible.
He said that in 1942, in Western Regional meeting of Traditional Rulers, no ruler had the title-name OBA except the OBA of Benin, OP charged anyone who cared to know to go check out the Attendance for proof.

Have you made any effort to look for that attendance?
Have you tried to research at all?

OP's points are very BOLD, ASSERTIVE AND VERY LOGICAL! OLUBADAN, ALAKE OF EGBAALAND, OONI OF IFE, ALAFIN OF OYO, ATAOJA OF OSHOGBO etc

Do you have only one Kingdom in Yoruba Nation?

Many kingdoms made up the Yoruba Nation. Hence the title of each Kingdom but they are all Obas ie King. At th apex of the nation is the Ooni as the spiritual Head and Alaafin as the administrative head.

Benin used to have Ogiso has the word for their King, before Eweka Dynasty was established by Oranmiyan.

1. Why were you taking permission for installation of your kings from Ife, up till the 20th century.

2. Why were you burying you dead kings in Ife, even up till the 20th century.

3. What is the name of the father of Eweka I.

4. What was the name of the dynasty that went into extinction before Eweka dynasty started.

5. When did the following words sneaked into your lexicon - Oba, Benin.

6. Why are you worshipping the Yoruba deities despite the fact that they have no link to your place eg Olokumi, Ogun Osun, Sango and even Ifa.

7. Why was Yoruba language the official language of the palace until recently.

8. As powerful as Oyo Empire and Benin Kingdom were, why was there no attempt by any to conquer the other?

Let me stop here for now.

I will take the drunk Chief serious when the Oba of Benin is bold enough to utter same, when he knows the ancestral curse he will be placing on himself and lineage.

At least one Yoruba Oba was bold enough to voice who Oba of Benin, he should be man enough to utter the contrary himself, if he can.

Mi o r'aye oshi jare.

you can burn all the candles in this world to provide the answers to your questions.

The bini empire at the height of her peak, stretches up to dahomey. all Yoruba states were conquered including oyo empire.
Their traces of conquest are still present in yoruba-land till date. e.g Ore town (Ondo State) was founded by the binis, Osemawe (oba in ondo) linage are from bini, Eko (Lagos), Ooni of Ife was a bini prince, majority of yoruba's artifact came from Benin palace, e.t.c

Err, I also educated you on the fact that "commonwealth" is interchangeable with common allegiance/alliance. I'm ya tutor and you're my student, Mr. Smart. My service to humanity as the Duke of Ijebuland. grin cool

you can burn all the candles in this world to provide the answers to your questions.

I am laughing in jukun and Yorubas are not speaking Bini or Edo or whatever language you guys speak.

You did all that, yet the official language o your palace was Yoruba?

On Eko, I though you should have installed Oba of Eko following the analogy of the drunk chief.

Meanwhile Eko that you conquered had inhabitants there before you came and it was just a small island out of the present day Lagos that includes Epe, Ketu, Ikorodu, Isolo Ebute meta of then.

Even at that, being the owner of your crown makes us th owner of whatever you own inclusive of the tiny Eko.
