That is just the plain truth,my brother. If this policy is not reversed, I might as well give up on my dream of studying M.Sc comes winter 2016 in one of the best universities in Europe. This ,indeed, is very sad.I feel like crying right now. Every monetary policy of this present administration appears to be a burden to a common man. I do hope that Nigerians will rise up against this not well-thought out policy.

Good move! One reason why our hospitals and schools are so bad is because those who have the influence to change things send their kids abroad or go abroad for treatments. If they are forced to use local schools and hospitals they will use their clout and put more pressure to get our local institutions fixed.

Just look at a school like Kings college, for all the highly placed people that has passed through it's walls, it's in that state because I bet you there is no KC alumni today that sends his son to KC. Everywhere else old students are a valuable source of pressure on government and keeping a school in good shape. All the billionaires, senators, chief justices that went to KC should be ashamed. They are the ones looking for forex to send their kids to secondary schools abroad. In a sane environment if you pass through an ivy league college you'd want your son to continue the tradition.

If you want to benefit other economies (by exporting our money to their hospitals and their schools) fine but source for your own forex, the govt wont subsidize you to do so.

You're the son of your father and a patriotic Nigerian.

Thank you.

PS: it's always refreshing to read from an astute person in the otherwise sea of seemingly stark illiterates on here.

You ban everything yet the fuc.cking naira keep crashing like dana air.
But Buhari will pay his doctor in UK with naira right?
Policies that will reflect and affect only on common man.

Am loosing trust in this man administration, its like it will be another 4 wasted years if not worse than previous.
the servant and lackey of those who raped this country will keep looking for opportunities to call PMB a failure, that i believe will not deter PMB from sticking to the same template most of the Asian tiger nations used. South Korea, Malaysia and Singapore all took this way yrs back to become what they are today. PMB or CBN did not bar anyone from paying school fees or medical bills abroad, all the CBN is saying is they will not sell to you at 190, if you need to pay then go get it at 300 plus anywhere. Please ask Buhari, when you push us to buy dollars at the black market to pay fees abroad and give our folks for upkeep, you are increasing the demand of dollars in the black market. Will that not further increase the demand of dollars and still push the value of the dollars up against the naira ?

so I have to exchange 450 naira per pound to send to my folks in London. I dont really know what I am doing in this country. What is Buhari thinking ? The value of Naira is tied to oil and electricity supply. He cant control the oil but he can control electricity. With electricity, manufacturing sector will be revived and reliance on foreign goods will reduce and importers will have no need to buy dollars.

Illiteracy is a bad thing and I hate all those who voted for this slowpoke. I can confidently state that a dollar will exchange for 1000 naira before 2019.

If your head correct before, are you the one who is supposed to send money to someone in a richer country abi na him go send you money? Nigerians have carried on as if they're the richest country on earth while remaining actually one of the poorest. The US has for years been working on alternatives to importation of oil and we just carry on the jamboree like the apes we are. Their research has yielded fruits now and the rest is history. No black society should be self-governing; interestingly, this assertion was made by people we like to call racists 100+ years ago. They knew then what we still deny today, though being proved correct by PRACTICAL REALITY. All black men should bury their head in shame. For every ban, the price of dollar goes up in the black market. Don't they get it?
The price of the dollar now, has always been the real value of the dollar for more than 3yrs now, the price before now was sustained by corruption. what had sustained the price at close to 200 before now was our leaking CBN vault under PDP. The leakage under a corrupt PDP ensured that there was enough supply of dollars in the(parallel) or black market, the corrupt dollars flowing in then from NNPC, CBN, NIMASSA etc ooh $2.1b armsgate dollars all found their way to the hands of mallams , with these type of corruption, dollar was sustained around 200 in the black market because of illicit supply from those who opened our vaults and shared our money out to friend and relations. The difference now under PMB, is that by blocking leakages the supply to mallams have drastically reduced yet demand remains static, hence the pressure is pushing up the price towards equilibrium. The baned items by CBN is just to ease the pressure as we pursue diversification in the long and shout run. Under the PDP model of corruption supplying to the parallel market instead of incomes from production, we were only postponing the evil day, but under this deliberate and sustained effort, expect a genuine rebound in the near future, it will not go back easily to 200 in the parallel market. Investment and diversification is the only true way to go. The road to true nation building is deliberate, it takes a strong leader that will go against the status quo, it will not be perfect, as mistakes will be made but if PMB can help us sustain for 8yrs at least, people will start coming to Nigeria for school and medical tourism also. We shall get there

The source of the news is a television presenter and not a statement issued by CBN! So, why waste time making silly comments on a mere rumour? And for the records, official press release by the Presidency indicated that Buhari went on one week vacation and not for medical treatment. I wonder why some idiots, including the PDP end time television station, AIT, will read meanings into a simple vacation!! Your mumu don do o!!!

So, please Mr. Poverty, steer clear my radar. I am not poor and I am not sympathetic to you for your condition. Arrant nonsense. Government has no rights to tell people how to spend their own money and where to treat oneself. The silly president should enact laws that stop only himself and his fellow politicians from seeking overseas treatment. Some of you are so poor that you think everyone is also poor. We read everyday how people go to Nigeria hospitals and without deposits doctors leave them to die. Whoever will work so hard to earn his money without seeking medical treatment anywhere in the world that he can afford.

My complain is not about my expense, my complain is that the dullard hasnt got sense to understand that as long as the demand for dollars goes up at the black market, which I consider the real market, then dollars will continue to be scarce and more naira will continue to chase the dollars. Watch out the next couple of weeks that the value of naira will plummet. I Predict 400 naira to a dollar in the next 3 weeks.

The President isnt sensible, he cant even review a budget. This is not cattle-rearing.

It's very simple, as you say the black market is the real rate ok. So if you want to pay for foreign stuff that do not contribute to our economy, like champagne, toothpick, foreign education and medical treatment go to the real market. If you want forex that will benefit the economy govt will incentivize you and sell you at a discount, if you don't like the state of education or health in the country then as a citizen do something about it, stop treating schools and hospitals like they don't belong to you.

I said those who have the power to influence and by that I mean the middle class. Every society is a reflection of it's middle class. So goes the middle class, so goes a country. We have always had a very self-centred middle class in Nigeria, it has always been our bane, so long as we can solve our problems we don't care where the country is going, the common man and social infrastructure. The Nigerian educated middle class kept quiet when babanguda came and ruined the country, instead of voicing, those who could leave moved abroad (especially the well qualified lecturers and doctors) and the vacuum was filled by quacks, a price we are still paying till today. So long as the middle class keep quiet and refuse to speak out, they we deserve what we get. Now our silence is coming home to roost just as it did after we let Babangida destroy our values. Now we are complain because we cant afford to send our kids abroad. We didnt complain when the poor man's kid was getting a bad education locally, we didn't complain when poor people were dying because the health system had collapsed. it wasn't our business so long as we could send our kids to schools abroad and get our medical needs abroad. WHen the road is bad, middle class man buys a jeep, he forgets about the poor man who cant afford a jeep and has to pass that road. We saw the poor state of the schools that gave us the great education that propelled us to the heights we have attained, we never once gave back to those schools, alumini meetings were an opportunity to socialise instead of giving back and now the shit has hit the fan and we are complaining!

If you have to send your kids to school or pay for medical treatment abroad and buy forex at $330 then we deserve it because collectively we failed to have a social conscience and play our part in making sure that social amenities work. A government can only neglect when the people keep quiet.
