Will you continue to use Nokia 3310 in 2015 simply because your parents used it back then as well or have you adapted to changes in society and started using a smartphone? undecided

I do not even know why you would call diapers something thats trending, they are a neccessity not something fashionable. Unless you are the one who will personally wash the pee and poo off your children's nappies, i highly doubt you should have a say on the matter.

Pampers have become the general name given to disposable diapers. OP, there are good and affordable disposable diapers, a low income family can use, it must not be Pampers. My opinion, people who cannot afford Pampers, can go for the cheaper, yet good disposable diaper, and mix it with the reusable cotton napkin. U wouldn't want to be seen in an occasion, with ur baby wearing the cotton napkin, and the child poops every 45mins.

I used diapers only because they are convenient and we could afford it. Can't judge any other mother who does not.

Every home, marriage is unique. People should stop comparing and do what works for them.

If its causing a strain( and even in the west where they are cheaper some still struggle with the cost) one can mix and match. Cotton nappies while at home and disposable diapers while out and about.

Cotton Nappies just need a lot more time and effort for it to be used hygienically but people still use them. A lot of environmentally conscious people do and for them its not even about the cost but more about the amount of waste they generate.

I like convenience a lot but in retrospect I think I could have actually been able to survive using cotton nappies . If at the time the cost of the disposables was a strain on our finances i would have adjusted and used them. As my babies got older sef I switched to cheaper brands. I must say though I might not be saying this if there was no washing machine.

OP I don't think its a versus thing. Its what works best at the time for the parents at the time.

The moment Nigerians learn how to be contented the better for dis generation.
Everyone has his/her own mask,do what is convenient for u.
Re: Pampers Vs Napkin by Chidoks(f): 2:03pm On Dec 30, 2015
It really doesn't have any thing to do with affordability. Diapers are expensive especially if you use the better qualities(i.e. original huggies). And you cannot save a fairly used one for future use.
Nappies are a great burden and if you calculate the cost of water for washing, detergent and disinfectant (plus labour and time) ,the difference wouldn't be much sef

I use clothe nappies, the modern type. They are not harder to use than disposables and I prefer the fit and look of them. I chose them for their looks, economy and environmental factors (it's also preferred by doctors abroad because cotton is a breathable fabric and lets air get to moist places on baby's bum, so fewer rashes). im avoiding exposing myself and baby to so many harsh chemicals and you'd be surprised how many they are in most mainstream products targeted at babies. i have a washing machine though and the Nigerian sun is the best bleach ever. I like matching the nappies to her outfits. Nappies are not hard to use and we get so many leaks from disposables (especially the a nigerian-made ones). Even with washing nappies, I can reuse them for multiple kids so they will always be slightly cheaper than disposables (though we use disposies at night because hubby is on diaper duty then). The modern cloth nappies are super absorbent and don't need bleach, not the old Terry cloth types. There's a push in western countries towards a more organic lifestyle but it's yet to get traction in Nigeria (some few of us are. into an organic lifestyle).

I think you shouldn't force anything on your wife, both of you need to agree on everything.

The point everyone is saying is "don't force anything on your wife". If you're going to insist on nappies, you better make sure it is easy for her to handle by either helping her with the washing or getting her a washing machine. Simples.

If you cannot afford Pampers, buy a cheaper disposable diaper (several Chinese brands exist on the market). I've heard of Angel, Molfix, Bleer Bluer etc.

You apparently may not realise this, but women are also human beings who get tired and exhausted and there isn't a person alive on this planet that went "Housework and chores, yippee, hooray! " ever.

I subscribe to convenience though but most of these new generation mothers are lazy. They want everything done. Some don't even mind their husband having affairs provided he doesn't bring std and another woman home. They only want sex for reproduction n fun at will.

I'm sure they sell them in Nigeria but you can easily get them off Amazon. They're super cute, I have a whole stash of them and when they're dirty, I toss them into a wetbag until wash-day. No smells, no wahala, we use an organic diaper rash cream (you can either mix one easily or use plain coconut oil) and anyone who tells you they're unhygenic is being ignorant as they actually help better for rashes.

Get her some pocket diapers, either Grovia or Alvababy. My friend has some Alvababy and some charcoal grey inserts for her son and she hasn't stopped singing happily about them. Me, i need some cotton prefolds and some more colours in my stash to match a few more outfits. It's very addictive embarassed

I'm with you on this wink. With 3kids using diapers at the same time, I decided to go the reusable diaper way. And I have no regrets whatsoever. Quite cost effective plus having to use a washing machine takes away the hassle of washing. No irritability that comes with some disposable diapers.

I use the disposable strictly for outing. Plus the fact that the reusable can be used from newborn to toddler and for subsequent kids is the icing on the cake! grin No need to buy bigger sizes as the baby grows older. Just adjust the setting according to the size of the baby and you're good to go.
