bad idea! if it gets to front page, all sorts of people will comment and eventually derail the thread. shifting it from the core purpose. its best it remains here for a while before gracing front page.

I my co-microbes.this is my 5th year in manufacturing industry as a microbiologist and quality assurance officer. As a microbiologist u can work in manufacturing industry as analyst in the lab as analyst or QA Officer on the production lines. My advice for the fresh graduate is to start slowly like sm1 said earlier the pay is btw 45-70k depend on hw lucky u are.Forget abt unilever or nestle because they look for experience although it good to dream high buh u have to be realistic.Try to acquire experience 1st eventhou if the pay will only cover Tfare just endure for 2yrs and gsk, fidson, emzor, cowbell, unilever n nestle will be your beginning.See u @ d top

Good evening, im a graduate of Microbiology from olabisi Onabanjo University ago-iwoye, finished my service last year October. During my service year, I did HSE.

Microbiology as a course, very good course but we need to have a body that will fight for us. Its so painful that most government hospitals doesn't accept Microbiologist into the microbiology lab anymore, we've been overtaken by the MLS. When it come to the health sector, Microbiologist doesn't have a say. The MLS are more prefered than the Microbiologist.

Got a job in a pharmaceutical company as medical sales representative in January but I have to resign because the conditions were too stringent. Since then, ive been trying to get any entry level job in any company but I discover that rarely will u see any company advertising for entry level. The question is, how can someone even get into top food company to have internship for experience, u must know someone.

In my little experience so far, we need a strong body that can fight and regulate things for us.

I know we have a lot of Microbiologist on this forum , pls lets come out and share experience with us and the way forward in our course of study.

I support his suggestion, when the thread get to front page, more Microbiologist will see it and contribute, though some antibodies will make some unecessary comment but u'll draw attention of more Microbiologist to the thread. There has been some other thread as well

Thanks to OP, and everyone who has contributed so far. This thread has been highly informative. I'm a graduate of microbiology, currently serving. Dear colleagues, Please, advise me on the necessary steps I have to take during my service year in order to increase my employability after service? Also, a senior colleague in this field who works in a production industry once advised me to register and get trained at IPAN. How recognized is IPAN certificate, and what are the factors involved to engage in the program?

. If u can do HSE, though it doesn't guarantee u a job, but u'll learn new things and add it to ur CV.

About IPAN, Two things are involved if u are a member. One, u can av ur own public lab and embark on public anaysis for industries, standing in gap/defending d quality of their products for them while u get paid. This is done @ least once in every yr by all industries for each of their products; charging them on each brand of d products.
Another is, it gives u opportunity to get job ahead of ur counterpart since the cmpany will av to make use of ur licence/stamp n signature rather than taking their products to private lab, even govt agencies will av to disturb such cmpany less since they knw they av in-house public analyst. Of whch such cmpany wil av to compensate u for that since it is an additional work u are doing for them n they wil find it difficult to retrench such staff
Also, u wil connect wt pple dat works at NAFDAC, SON, IPAN board members and other IPAN members dat work in other cmpany higher than urs. U wil get to knw more product formulation, attend different seminars and may probably be call for production n reviewing of SOP (standard operating procedure) of new n old products respectively.
Dont forget, d duration is 3years.

I regret ever doing that course in the first place. Job prospects is very poor. Those of you stil in sch shld work on ur GP so that you can have a better chance of becoming a lecturer, that's abt the best job you can get.
Those of you in 200level can switch to pharmacy possibly that's a better option.
Goodluck!
