Auditing is the independent examination of the financial statements of an entity with a view to make a report as to the trueness and fairness of the balances appearing therein and ensuring that such statement complies with statutory requirements. The person who makes this report is called an AUDITOR
Types of audit includes
1. Procedural audit
2. Vouching auditor.

Qualification of an auditor.
CAMA 2004 stipulates that to be appointed as an auditor, such a person must be a member of an accounting body in the county established by an act or Parliament.
These body includes
1. The institute of chartered accountants of nigiera (ican)
2. Association of National accountant (ANAN)
3. Association of Certified Chartered Accountant (ACCA)

Duties of an auditor.
The primary duty of the auditor is to make a report as to the accuracy of financial statement of companies. It his not his duty to prevent fraud and errors. Although this is considered a secondary objective.

The opinion of one of my professors, auditors are the real accountants.

.... I am still a student member of ICaN
ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants)
- The Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN)

Nigeria and not nigieria

Have a good day.

Why are you so hostile? It seems we are talking about two different things, I'm talking about KPMG Auditing/Financial services. An external auditor is an auditor that does not belong to one company. Companies like KPMG hire us as an additional control for internal auditors.

Oga, ur story line appear inconsistent. I was with KPMG for 5yrs 3 month and left the firm few months back. The last time I checked, we have the IT unit and also the Internal Audit unit and not aware of the firm engaging an external to perform IT or internal control checks. The only externals we engage for the most part are property/PPE/inventory valuation expert.

Seems you don't know KPMG very well! Since you are not part of financial services you can be forgiven. I suggest you read more about KPMG and their association with external auditors. The information is there online, so no need for arguing!

I will answer this question to the best of my knowledge without conducting any research. First and foremost this question is made up of two questions, that is minimum and realistic. The government approved minimum wage in Nigeria is N18,000 but this does not apply to private companies, that means private companies can only pay as they wish but remember that your payment with private companies are always spelt out in their letter of terms or letter of contract also known as appointment letter and you are required to reply if you accept the offer. The realistic part is that the minimum any small company can pay or should pay for such position as mentioned above is N60,000 above . I hope I have answer you but if not, please feel free to ask again.

Boring....depends on the company, not if u have worked in more than two countries ds year and its still March, concern would be too much happening not boredom.

In the right place, its an amazing job.

Buhahahahahah......................Guys on this forum beware of people like this individual am quoting. There is no Company in Nigeria named KPMG Auditing/Financial Services. Don't fall victim of whatever he's up to.

WHY AND HOW DO I KNOW that for sure? Maybe because I work with the Company called KPMG Professional Services; the only KPMG in Nigeria.

Oga go and read your book very well on what an External Auditor does and an Internal Auditor does. It is so evident up there you know very little, if any at all about them.

Hello Nairalanders,

I joined Nairaland today so please forgive me if I don't follow your rules. All this gist about auditors flew past my newspaper app so I decided to see if I could get something out of this platform.

I am a Recruiter and I am looking to hire Internal Auditors, Information Systems Auditors and Cluster Compliance Officers.

Candidates' Profile:

The ideal candidates must have had minimum 3-5 years

Should not be more than 34 years. Older candidates can apply if they are below 38 years and have attained the Grade of Senior Banking Officer in a commercial Bank.

All candidates must have 2.2 from a University or HND Upper Credit. Candidates with a 2.1 or with a Masters degree will be given preference. However, candidates with a HND Lower Credit but with PGD may also apply.

All candidate must be presently employed in a Commercial Bank.

If you know someone who's profile matches the above criteria, please send an email to: talentassuredng@gmail.com

Note: Please do not send in your CV for any of the above roles unless you have worked in the Operations, Marketing, Internal Control, Internal Audit, Information System Audit or Compliance Groups of a Commercial Bank.

Thank you.

See I have nothing to prove to you. The bold part of your statement reveals everything about you. So you went back all the way to 2010 to get something to bolster your argument, what a shame! Since 2010, I've accomplished a lot, something the likes of you might have a problem understanding!

Nice. Been wanting to ask a KPMG person this. Is CGPA being used as a factor during their benchmarking stage? If no then why do the ask for transcripts during document verification? Want to squash an argument on a thread which states that folks with a borderline 2.1 CGPA can't get employed by the firm.

Yea CGPA is a factor ....the main reason why you have so many 1st class graduates in KPMG. You must have a strong 2.1 or a very high score in the aptitude test.

You can ask your professor this question " if Auditors are the real accountants, what does that makes those that did not specialise in auditing?"

I asked him that the moment he made that statement and he said "Accounting Officers"
Re: Thread For Auditors & Potential Auditors by Nobody: 6:56pm On Mar 31, 2016
Rubyventures:

In an ideal world, if there is a conflict of interest, which may lead to impaired judgement on the part of the Auditor, then maybe he should turn down the job, but in a Nigeria scenario during the interview, when asked if he knows any body in the company? he can state this and see where it takes him.

The requirement for admission into any profession are;
Knowledge.
Experience
Integrity.
(KEI)
So even after you have passed the ican exam i.e. acquired the knowledge, you must practice in an accounting firm for three years or lecture for five years before you can be said to have acquired experience.
Afterwards it would be confirmed based on your years of practice if you are of proven integrity.
Then, you would be granted full admission to the profession (ACA or ACCA). Only then, can you be an external auditor
