@ Empiree.....I am thinking about you standing in front of the mirror and seeing your hypothetical friend. You seem to have so much detailed information about this event like you are talking about yourself as a third party.
I doubt if anyone is learning anything from the story but rather making an input out of boredom or approach to pity.
As for me, I think this will make a good script for a home video but I doubt if their isn't any movie like this in the market.
Anyway, I still believe this belongs in the Family section but in all reality, it's keeping this thread active since no new construction idea or comment to deliberate for a few days now.

Your friend lost a good opportunity. I would say he should have collected the document and not just that but also sell it on and buy or build elsewhere.

This is really good talk actually. It is his attny that was overwhelmed by his (papa) sorry state appearance. He was convinced there is more to it. But I disagree he lost good opportunity. You know, he placed a call to my friend in NY to hear his dad. Despite my friend's "bragado" here, he too felt bad hearing his dad's voice like that cus daddy was scared of the law.

So attny asked him for the last time "do you want me to go ahead and collect the docs?". My friend didnt hesitate but to say "yes". But attny got the docs but felt bad. Right now, we have people watching dad's movement, eavesdropping his convos. If we hear him say something about changing name or selling the land, police and lawyer are going there with full force. That's the next move

Guys, thanks for your encouragement, hajj mufu and co. There is now a change of plan. What you guys said here is backed up by his mom and brothers now. They previously frown at him for getting authority involved. Now they support him. They just said few mins ago to GET THE DOCS back by any means neccessary.

Thanks

Is this a finished job? im weighing the pros and cons of using terazzo floors on a building project and those pictures you posted the floors aren't polished. Im worried that i will not be able to find skilled workers who can finish the terazzo floors to the finishing I would like in a home project. although quite expensive, terazzo floor are very durable if done correctly.

KolaShangOne:

Yes I was happy with it. We did about 3 govt primary schools, 1 lecture theater in Polytechnic Ibadan and a factory.
No materials bought. Its all in. Time frame is 3 weeks for a good polishing job. Done over the past 3 years. Working away from base depends on size of project.

He is a grown man so me I no see why his dad needs to hold the documents especially in a polygamous situation. He just needs to reassure his dad that it does not mean that their relationship has gone south. No bad blood or anything.

Sir KolaShangOne, tell me you didn't see the inconsistencies in the quote.
I understand that part but you didn't see that I also queried wall trim and eave angle.

Cladding is normally 0.25m (no assumption/approximation) while eave angle and wall trim is 0.150 girth. How come they're (wall trim and eave angle) more than the cladding in the estimate?

What about the scary figures? .55 is normally N1,150 (figure coming from installer who go chop hin own o), how come we got N1,750?

I don't like doing this online but I think the contractor is more of an enemy than a friend to this client.

Help Needed Here Guys. mufutau55 and you too.

Is it possible to strengthen or fortify existing decking and how?

I see ongoing duplex project. Decking and upper floor are done but owner wants to add additional 2 couches on the upper. When bricklayers were about starting to do that, they notice the decking isn't strong enough to hold heavy load.

It seems there might be bad job with that. In any case, is there a way to strengthening the decking to hold more stuff?

I have never heard of adding anything to strengthen a decking slab.
How does the bricklayers knows it cannot hold one more block coach?
What did the bricklayers saw that scares them? How thick is the decking slab?
Was there a one coach beam when they were doing the decking... beam should help the decking slab.
If the decking could not hold one more coach, then I think the entire blockwork on the decking is also in trouble.. then and how is this gonna hold the roof work? This scares me o...

Note: Is there any pictures to show...

With this picture it's not clear to me, but it does look like they use 4 inches slab, instead of 6 inches slab.
Also I could not see if a decking beam was used.. Let him clarify this to you o.

Note: Look at the edge of the iron work with the block holes... there will be a beam there before the decking slab goes on top.
Look at the second picture you will see the decking slab like it's two and very thick, that is the beam and decking slab showing together.

Actually he just told me he's only referring to porch area. The outer stairs and decking slab in the area. Said when he walked on it, it sounds and feels light

Decking (slab) don't hold or carry external walls, they only carries internal partition wall that might have been designed for (as line load across any section of the slab) during the design stage.

From the picture you posted below, the problem may be from the beam (carrying both the slab and the partition wall load on top.

Adding two extra courses of block wall of 225mm ( 3.47 x 0.45 x 1.4 = 3KN/m load) will over stressed the building that means the design is faulty

Sorry forgot to mention, the land is in Ikorodu.
Many Thanks.

The job shown was pre-polishing. If you look closely you will notice the terrazzo slabs have just been fixed. Colored Terrazzo is beautiful but expensive. Also it's everlasting. Shines as it grows older. Tiles fade as it gets older.

1) Cladding sheet

3) Aluminum Eave angle

The thickness of all the items depend on the thickness you bought from the factory. Commonly used thickness for residentials are 0.45mm (for bungalows) and 0.55mm (storey buildings). We also have 0.7mm for factories.

1) cladding is done on the facial board of the house. Usually 225mm breadth.
2) ceiling cladding sheet. I refer to this as external ceiling. It is the space between your external block work and roof. Usually 500mm breadth.
3) eaves angle. flat sheet. Cut and bent.
Used to tape the out-shoot of the Aluminium from the roof. To make it look neater.4-6inches
4) ridge angle. Ridge cap is the name. Used to cover where Aluminium sheets meet. Pic attached. Usually 24inches
5) Gutter trimming: Used to cover the top of the gutter. Flat sheet cut to size.2-3inches

No parapet

No special design like that

I'm happy to share these pics on here to uplift some souls. We built this house within six months. You know what that means? When you don't have any money in the account but it keeps coming and coming till it's completed.
