Please l need help on some information.
How best can l maintain a car (tokunbo) that drives for once or twice a week cumulatively 50 minutes?
l don't want to assume that since l don't use it often, l can as well check or service it once in "two years".
What are the things l need to check with the car from to time, and at what intervals?
l will deeply appreciate your expert's advice.

Every 10000 miles or 12 months whichever comes first. And pack your engine bay with rat poison.

Since its a used (Tokunbo) car, I'll recommend every 6 months. If it were a new car, every 12 months would be ideal...

If you are in the South, you should worry more about rust than oil change...

By the way, you did not state the make, model and age of the car. The age is what would determine how often you should do the servicing, especially oil change...

Please permit me to ride on this thread, I have a corolla 2005 with 300k+ KM and I drive within the city though I could go as fast 100km/h a few seconds and it makes approximately 800km a month.

So how often should I service the engine? I use total oil.

Which oil do you use cheap 3k mineral oil or 9k synthetic oil, if it is d former I will say every 6months n if d latter then 12months.

Short distance drives r hard on d car BC d oil/coolant temp rarely reaches its optimum/recommended temp causing intense wear/tear on ur car engine. To minimize this use synthetic oil

Hello Cartoonist,

It's better to get that information from the vehicle user manual. You can relax a little on the time limit stipulated for service since you don't drive the car regularly i.e you can service every 9months if the manufacturer say 6months. Please download the user manual online if you do not have a copy in your car.
