U need to witness it first hand. Only God knows why he created those people who put speed bump on that road without brain at all.

Are you sure that traffic is caused by speed bumps? I can't see any in the picture

Then you have not visited Nyanya/Karu area in a long time. I was over there during the weekend ,I've seen the bumps and my folks who regularly ply that road complained bitterly about the bumps on phone to me yesternight. So what are you saying?
To be sincere, I have not passed there for almost 4months now, but how could sane people put speed bumps on the major road. You don't put bumps, you construct pedestrian bridges. You put bumps on street roads because of kids and those coming out of their estates or houses. I am sorry i made such hasty conclusion. I stay at Apo.

Stop spreading rumors, there is no such thing as speed bumps on the karu nyanya express, the hold up u see is caused by population of commuters coming all the way from nassarawa state, masaka, mararaba, nyanya, karu , jikwoyi, orozo etc, there are so many suburbs where commuters are coming from and somany vehicles too.

All these converge in a on the highway, despite the fact that it is a 6 lane express, the population continues to increase due to increase in vehicle acquisition.

Know that abuja is one of the places where vehicles are most affordable, you can buy a car for N100k, so that explains why there are so many vehicles and traffic as well, just like lagos.

The hold up is also caused by the barracks and AYA junction which tries to restrict the traffic from 6 lanes to 4 lanes.

Bros, I was just about to correct your assertions...but you've already corrected your self.

Yesterday was terrible, thank God I left office exactly 4pm yesterday. Still felt it small though

Used to stay in karu Site but this deadly traffic drove us to town. Only people who stay in these places the OP mentioned will understand and show empathy...the rest will only be sympathetic or show no concern but this is really HELL. I know how this place used to be without speed bumps in the evenings and mornings and I wonder what it will be like now with the speed bumps installed.
not been negotiating that axis until y day 25th .I already knew this is gonna be hell for the people. Why would some low sense thinking individuals or collectives think of fixing road bumps on high ways??!that is absurd and unthinkable. That road usually is a hold up point at night hours for cars and very narrow for 4-lane cars, but to think that the solution is speed bumps,is another madness.I hope those concerned would take great steps immediately.

My brother/Sister na so we see am. I'm sure the bumps were hurriedly made to justify an unnecessary award of contract and siphon some cash no matter how little. Just like the useless plastics filled with sand that was used to partition the other lane of same road some time ago.

I actually thought of this too. This whole brouhaha is simply to siphon money. Nothing else.

Residents of Karu, Nyanya, Mararaba, Jikwoyi, kurudu, Orozo and it's environs are currently witnessing the 'mother of all traffic gridlock'

Residents are left in awe as to what would have led the FCT administration to install speed bumbs over the weekend on this road which on a good day is a nightmare to motorists...

Most commuters have been rooted to the same spot for over two hours. Worthy of note is the fact that most low level civil servants and low income earners stay within those axis...
Suffice it then to say that this is the major reason why the government is not giving top priority to fixing the traffic challenges on that road.

Most top government officials stay within the city centre and may claim not to be privy to what ordinary Nigerians go through on a daily basis...it is high time those in Authority did something about the situation on this very busy keffi Nyanya road...

A word is enough for the wise...

Meeen !!! the situation was beyond comment, I got to my house by almost 1am after closing from work by 5pm, hmmmmmmmm, God bless my country

Speedbumps can't be the main reason for the traffic.
Am sure the OP must be new in that environ, that has been the traffic situation of that area for years.

It is actually speed bumps that caused caused. I use that route almost every day. Immediately after the speed bump, traffic flows freely.

For clarity on this subject, the Op is very correct. There is always hold up on that road but this latest worsening of the hold up is because of the speed bumps put on the road section at Kugbo last week. Indeed the accident rate is high but the solution to that is to introduce pedestrian bridge. The new Government/FCT Minister needs to speed up work on alternative bye-pass/routes such as the Apo-Karshi road and the one from the Keffi road that bursts out at Mpape. Unless this is done, the traffic on the Abuja-Nyanya/Mararaba road will remain a harrowing experience. So much waste of man hour, damage to vehicles such as overheating and wearing out of brake pads etc. The traffic is a reminder of leadership and government failure over the years.

I don't think this is a big deal as it will ensure that cars on speed slow down.

My 2 cent sha

You don't think it's a big deal because you didn't go to a driving school and hence do not have a clue on the rules and regulations of the Nigerian highway code. Folks like you are the dangerous ones causing accidents on the road.

So that you learn, certain roads have minimum and maximum speeds, especially highways. The minimum speed on most highways is 60km/hr. Just imagine the damage a speed breaker would case by people slowing to 5km/hr..

my brother i was in a car going home from work yesterday and i said exactly the same thing yesterday till the car got to the speed bumbs.

I was so shocked that any right thinking human being could do such a thing when what was really needed on that bottle neck road was an overhead bridge.

we have some really DAFT decision makers in our midst.

Well if that's the case, then it's indeed very daft of them.

U see what am saying. U only mentioned designated places that is pretty ok,what about the places u said i shouldnt go,the whole city itself is not that fantastic,it supposed to be entcing from the interior to the exterior. Imagine at the entrance of a Capital territory, street lights aint working, dirts around, gutter filled with rubbish, hawkers all around. Dear Naija never reach there, when they attempt getting closer u will know, especially if u have travelled out of the shores of Nigeria, for instance Accra in Ghana,Douala in Cameroon theses are neigbouring country with beautiful capital territory.
