Since them born me, this is the only better bill wey I don hear say a senator sponsor. I'm used to hearing about child marriage, weakening anti-corruption agencies including CCT and increasing their salaries

Well, they essentially mean the same thing. It changed to climate change when some scientists discovered that the depletion of the ozone layer also leads to colder temperatures.

Hmm could you please pardon me to defer? Global warming and Climate change still remain distinct. Global warming refers primarily to the rising of Earth's average temperature. Climate change however comprises warming and its side effects like; rainstorms, drought, and the melting of the glaciers. You could say in "some" cases, global warming could lead to climate change. So could the emission of gaseous substances etc. In essence, global warming could be considered one of the many effects of climate change.

For your information, south africa is currently accounting for more than 10 times what Nigeria is contributing to climate change by emission of carbon gases from coal burning used to power their electricity generation and south africa is 3 times smaller than Nigeria in population.

I think Nigeria senate should focus on more important things for now..(Not that climate change is not important) but Nigeria is a very insignificant player. Countries like United States of America, China, Germany and United Kingdom should lead the way.

PIB, state police, state fiscal and political Autonomy, Protection of the Vulnerable, corruption prohibition, poverty alleviation schemes - social welfare etc... These are bills they are supposed to be discussing...

Misplaced priority. How does that address the immediate basic challenges of food clothing, shelter and security of the general populace.
#scrap_NASS
#scrap_Nigerian_senate

Let me enlighten you.
1. Food: due to the effects of climate change our farms and agricultural systems have become increasingly susceptible with low productivity.

2. Shelter: climate change has made environmental refugees of people especially those staying in fragile and hostile areas e.g. areas prone to flooding, erosion, desertification

3. Security: of course the recent fulani n local people clash is a classic example of competition for limited viable grazing area. Once upon a time these used to be abundant in the savannahs areas of the north but the effects of climate change has shrunk these areas and made grazing areas scarce in the north. Hence their migration to the south to supoort their herd.

4. General populace: of course, i cant overemphasis how the last few months have been extremely hot even in coastal areas like Lagos, Calabar n PH. Now imagine the north!

I am sure by now you ought to have found a link btw climate change the people.

As much as this makes sense,
Unfortunately, Nigeria contributes less than 1% of global CO2 emmissions so whatver we are cutting won't change anything. The major polluters will remain the major polluters and as long as the major industrial economies don't act on this, we're simply wasting our time.

If you understand climate change, you'd know that Nigeria doesnt constitute even 2% of global emmissions. Whatever law they're passing won't have an effect unless the big industrial powers of the world decide what to do. Global warming is not a country by country thing. lol..

Good.

The fulani herdsmen crisis is one of the consequences of climate change when grazing fields in the North get more arid, the herdsmen come down south to compete for arable land to feed their cows and that causes conflicts as you all can observe.

Now, that is a learned fellow! I hope they introduce taxes for factories and companies that do not pass the carbon emission accepted level, hence bringing in more income for the government.

For any climate-change policy to work in Nigeria, there needs to be a drastic reduction in the use of household generators.
They are amongst the biggest sources of air pollution, with their toxic fumes contributing to the 'dark' skyline of Lagos.
the olodos didnt capture that..just a bunch of dullards in that house who barely can grasp the effects of pollution to our ecosystem and the various causes..

no one addressed a ban on generators and the provision of constant electricity using renewable energy...olodo men... angry angry

Let me enlighten you still. Yes Nigeria and majority of the developing world have little carbon footprints (contribute to climate change) when compared to the developed but we suffer the most due to our vulnerable environment and poor mechanism for adaptation. So consider the climate change bill as an attempt to adapt to the situation by improving our resilience and less of mitigating against it.
