This so story is so watery. Tje so called unamed source which the writer used non try. The writer should have at least visited Benin. The throne to Oba is NEVER contested unlike other western states. From the day a heir is born, its known to be the next Oba except he dies before the Oba which has always been unlikely. So why will he say the contention. Some of us know the reason the news about the death was kept and norlt some craps as reported bu the author

There is no such thing as selection of an oba in benin. The first son is automatically the next oba and is separated from his father from his childhood. There can be no debate on who the next oba is, the crown prince is groomed from birth for that position. Except there is a debate on who is truly the eldest or paternity issues. The author obviously doesnt know much about benin.

Op there is nothing like select, unlike the other Obas, the heir apparent to the throne is already known even from birth. In fact the next oba after this is known already. We don't fight to get it, we don't select, elect, vote or even choose. Aise agbon rioba. Only if you know what that means. God bless the King, Benin Kingdom and all its descendants.
