Following his victory in the May 3 Indiana primary, and the withdrawal from the race of both Senator Ted Cruz (Texas) and Governor John Kasich (Ohio) which made Trump the presumptive Republican nominee for president, attention has now shifted to the 'veep stakes'. 

Here are six individuals that could make a Trump shortlist for vice president of the United States:

Governor Mary Fallin (61 years old): The Oklahoma governor has already reportedly expressed a willingness to be considered as Trump’s running mate and the presumptive nominee praised her as possibility. A two-term governor of the Sooner State who previously served in Congress, her selection would allow Trump to have a woman with significant government experience on the ticket. However, she is best known in Oklahoma for her push to carry out death sentences despite court orders to the contrary.


Newt Gingrich (72 years old): The former House speaker and 2012 presidential hopeful has long been a rare pro-Trump voice in Washington DC. Gingrich would bring considerable political experience and significant public profile as a running mate. It’s just a question of whether Trump wants to double down on a ticket of thrice-married elderly men who love publicity.

Senator Joni Ernst (45 years old): The gun-totin’, Harley-ridin’, pig castratin’ Iowa farm girl burst onto the scene when she won the Iowa senate race in 2014. Ernst has shown no willingness to embrace Trump, but the 45-year-old first-term female senator would be an ideal running mate for any Republican. Ernst is an Iraq veteran who won in a swing state.
She is reportedly open to being tapped as VP saying "You know, of course i would have a conversation with him. But again, it's a hypothetical, my focus is on serving Iowans right now. They elected me to serve as their voice in Washington, and that's what in need to do, i need to focus on Iowa right now".

Pam Bondi (50 years old): She is a two-term Florida Attorney-general. She was first elected to the position in 2010, and was re-elected in 2014. On both occasions, she received 55% of the vote. Pam Bondi had also been a prosecutor for 18 years. She was the lead attorney-general for the state of Florida and 26 other states in their unsuccessful challenge to the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act's individual mandate.
She was an early endorser of Donald Trump.

Scott Brown (56 years old): Scott Brown served as a US senator representing Massachusetts from 2010-2013. Before his stint at the federal level, he had served as a legislator in the Massachusetts legislature for 12 years, as both a State Representative and a State Senator. He was one of the first well-known elected officials to back Trump, endorsing the New York businessman before the New Hampshire primary. During a campaign event in January, someone in the audience urged Trump to choose Brown for vice president.
“You know what? He’s central casting,” Trump replied. “Look at that guy! He’s central casting! A great guy and a beautiful wife and a great family. So important!”

I can also see a possibility of the running-mates of both Trump and Hillary being current state attorneys-general. Clinton could tap California's AG, Kamala Harris to join the ticket, while Trump could tap Pam Bondi - Florida's attorney general - to be his VP.
However Kamala Harris is currently running for a US Senate seat, and is ahead in the polls for that race. So, it may be difficult to convince her to abandon that ambition.

Bernie core supporters (millennials) prefer Hilary to Trump according to almost every poll. It is not even close at all. More than 30 points.
