Thanks so much

i will do so sir. In few hours. Am at the Border now processing custom clearance and all. After which i head to The Union Park. A cameo of tomatoes just got here.

Below is a picture of a cameo. It contains 500 Baskets. About to be loaded into 3 J5 vehicles. However i want to use a Boxer J5, as it contains more tomatoes than normal J5.

A boxer J5 contains 160Baskets.
A normal J5 contains 150Baskets.

Also union fees and clearance and loading and all have been settled at once

Ymodulus...
Is there anyway we also can tap from this?

sorry sir. i will prefer everyone does it him or herself.

However what i must tell you is dont be scared even if you have 1Million Baskets. You can sell all a day. I mean a day.

Dont be scared.

I am so sure of 7,000Baskets in Lagos a day. And am sure of 1000 Baskets in Portharcout in a day.

Tomatoes is also been imported from Benin and Togo into Nigeria.

Note* due to experience you can sell 1,000 basket in portharcout and make a profit of someone who sold 5000Basket in Lagos.
PORTHARCOUT is the money market. Those people live a high life.

Ehm that questiom is a tricky one.

Let me explain. If for example you want 10Baskets. A J5 wont qant to transport 10Baskets to your location because transportation a lone of 150Baskets ( 1J5 ) is 150,000. However if you have someone who loaded and have some left over. tell him you will pay based on your space occupied.

Like yesterday one of our J5 took only 121Basket remaining 25Baskets all to lagos. But we had to pay for 25 Slots. thats almost 30K loss already.

However we plan to recover the loss today by forcing and making sure we add extra 25 baskets anyway possible to the J5.

note you can add more baskets to a J5 however to prevent the product from decaying due to hear. You take care by leaving it at 150

Now another thing is your location. yes you might send 10Baskets to Lagos succesfully and pay your transport. However what if you stay in warri?

Many sellers goes to Lagos. Few go to warri. All these factors contribute to things in deciding your initial startup capital. However Never say never. Thats the secret

1. PERISHABLES/ Poor State of Vehicles:
Tomatoes are Perishables, some J5 got spoiled on the way. And when this happens. Just be sure you have a back up plan and hope it happens where there is a presence of settlement. Out of almost 48J5 - 51J5. 7J5 got spoiled on transit. Some were repaired but 3 J5 about 450 Basket got Sold at extremely ridiculous price of 3K/Baskets.

this is really impressive. kudos to you both.

mind sharing if you followed the J5 convoy or you stayed back in Cameroon and monitored them on phone, giving instructions to sell for the ones that broke down?

Ymodulus, Thanks for this insightful narrative. I can not be more grateful

I would to ask you some questions.

1. Did you have to register or go through any official documentation with the customs of F.G.N. as a tomato importer? Did they give you any hassle?

2. During transportation of the goods, did you follow the drivers or they delivered the products independently from Cameroon to Nigeria? If yes, how did you find them and how were you sure they would be loyal?

3. When you bought the over 5000 baskets of tomato, did the drivers of the lorries move in a convoy or individually?

4. What measures did you put in place should incase any of the lorries broke down in an isolated area? How would have been able to solve this kind of unforeseen problem?

5. If I can get a military personnel to follow the drivers on their voyage back to Nigeria, will it reduce risks? will it change anything?

6. I understand that in a typical Nigerian market of today, you can't just bring products and start selling. There have to be a union and all sort of people who would have to give you permission. How did you tackle this problem? How were you able to penetrate the market?

7. I understand you sell at the rate of 12000 naira per basket. I wouldn't mind buying from you to resell. How can we do business?

Looking at the fact that you are 23 years of age, you really inspire a lot of people here, and I can only wish you more success and even more success. I await your response. Thanks!

No i didnt follow the J5 we are still in cameroon. It was a difficult task trusting an Hausa man you met once in the market with large sums of money running into millions. But we were just confident enough. We understand and trusted the honesty of the hausas. So our money are been sent back to us.

Note: We specifically dont allow the drivers to carry any Yoruba or igbo boy. we tell them we want hausas all through. Please note this is not tribalism. we followed the instructions of the Alhaji in the market at ikom he loved the fact we were young. he then schooled us properly.

Note also that when the 4 J5 vehicle got spoiled it did at Benin Ore Road. we instructed them to sell. These they did and sent out money back.

Ymodulus, Thanks for this insightful narrative. I can not be more grateful

I would to ask you some questions.
Thanks Brother.
Go on.

1. Did you have to register or go through any official documentation with the customs of F.G.N. as a tomato importer? Did they give you any hassle?
Hahaha. Brother fight Corruption.

You really dont need that. Though we bribed 15k each to have our way. To have a legal paper cost 40j. These enables you get into cameroon as you like. Also note you can go to some areas in cameroon without been harrased. But avoid Police. Though cameroonians love money and can kill for a bribe.

Simple Answer in short words: If you want to go by the law, you need to have a paper pass to enter cameroon freely and the price of that paper pass is N40,000. Aside this nothing else. If you dont want to go this way

2. During transportation of the goods, did you follow the drivers or they delivered the products independently from Cameroon to Nigeria? If yes, how did you find them and how were you sure they would be loyal?

There are two transportations.
1. From cameroon to inside nigeria after the boarder. A park in Ikom. ( a Cameroon car and a cameroon plate number. This car cannot exceed ikom).
2. From Ikom to Lagos. A nigerian vehicle with a nigerian plate number.

We send them independently. Brother dont be scared trust me everything is documented on a waybill reciept. All these drivers are under a union they dont misbehave. Hausas are honest and also laws are in place.

3. When you bought the over 5000 baskets of tomato, did the drivers of the lorries move in a convoy or individually?

Yes almost all left at once., independently. The advantage of them moving in convoy is that when one breaks down on road, the others can assist. For example whem 7 broke down at Benin ore and Sagamu/ Mowe- Ibafo. The others assisted in repairs and drawing the vehicles.

Today 1000baskets. 1 J5 left alone he is already in Ogun.

4. What measures did you put in place should incase any of the lorries broke down in an isolated area? How would have been able to solve this kind of unforeseen problem?
No measures. We only inspect the behicle before we agree with the union head that we love the vehicle.
Beside if it spoil in an isolated area they will get mechanic and fix it. But most Drivers know how to repair the cars and they carry box tools. But we always tell them to move in convoy

5. If I can get a military personnel to follow the drivers on their voyage back to Nigeria, will it reduce risks? will it change anything?

Yes it if the military personnel are like 4 in a car with guns. Yes it will reduce all those unnecessary settlements. However you must pay the union fees. And also rit gurantees extra security.

6. I understand that in a typical Nigerian market of today, you can't just bring products and start selling. There have to be a union and all sort of people who would have to give you permission. How did you tackle this problem? How were you able to penetrate the market?
Yes in Lagos state for example.
You will have to pay Revenue fees to the state government before your produce can be sold or your vehicle enters the mile12 market. Its N4,000 revenue. Now also your Dealer of tomatoes is already under any union. You are just using him as a front. Do you understand?

your Tomatoes Dealer has a commision for every basket. it could be percentage basis which is 10% non - negotiable or it can be another way. If you gives him commision based on percentage you wont pay revenue and all he would do so. However if they reverse is the case. you will pay such.

Looking at the fact that you are 23 years of age, you really inspire a lot of people here, and I can only wish you more success and even more success. I await your response. Thanks!

Thanks Sir
