Most part of my life was spent believing the spiritual controls the physical. Just like most Nigerian families especially Yorubas and Igbos, we strongly believe there are spiritual powers that don't want us to succeed (hausa's have no time for this bullshit). I was born into a Yoruba home so it was normal to take up lots of the superstitions as I grew up. There is a family curse we believed, and that was that it was that no one of my parents family could build a house. Non of my uncles or aunties have been able to build there own house no matter how successful they are. My mum was from a very rich family and inherited a home. She also had hundreds of thousands Units of stocks (mostly bank shares). It baffles me how she lives as if she is damn broke and poor, nothing to show for it that she owns anything. She always said it was a family curse. Same with my dad very privileged man but chronic womanizer. My mum is the typical Christian mum, always praying and fasting and living that kind of old school SU life. I started struggling in life too. One day my mum said, "son there is no curse anywhere. If you do what you should do, you will succeed and achieve all you want to achieve" I stared at her not believing that she could make such a statement. This was a time I was at the verge of becoming an atheist. Guess what within 4months from that moment my Mum broke the jinx and built her own house. Thanks to counsel I gave her. I know more about financial management and investments that she does. I was so angry and told her she should listen to me and do what I ask her. She woke up one day and said she was ready to listen to me. Things started changing. We never prayed once together all through this period. I told her how to leverage on what she had to get funds to build her own house. She completed it without borrowing a dim. That same year I got a contract under the Jonathan Government. I discovered myself. My new motivation was Eminem's "Lose Yourself" How I love this song! You still there praying and running from pillar to post thinking you are suffering from a family curse or some people can spiritually kill your destiny wake up! Wake up! 10 Likes 4 Shares |

Nice story. In this life, one has to work hard to make it. Not by just sitting down, shouting Jesus Jesus. Look at d Whites.. Not all of dem bliv in God. But look at where They re. sorextee:FACT, God has no influence on anyones success. God only works when God is a sort of motivation. There is nothing spiritual about success. I always ask this question if you were told to choose between getting shot in the head OR witchcraft be used to kill you, which will you choose. You are permitted to pray to God to save you from death. Which will you choose believing God would save you? Nobody will choose getting shot in the head. Back then, the so called Pastor's would say my distant family are the ones behind my woes. Was always running from one pastor to d other.. I later stopped believing dem. Around 2012, wen nysc posting was drawing near. My dad took me to one of his Pastor's, who claims to be seeing future.. My dad told him nysc posting will soon be out, let him pray so God would not post me to d north (boko Haram were serious dat time) although, I'm from borno state too. Na so d man start dey speak in tongues o. Wen he finished his incantations, him tell me say dey go post me to Ogun state. I will serve in one big company, be retained, I go travel out well well, den I would get married to a white girl  .. I didn't really bliv him o. But I was more interested in d travelling out nd d white girl part. Wen call up letter finally came, lo nd behold, I was posted to katsina.. Called my dad, told him his fake predicted rubbish.. I would've been turned into sex slaves for pastors if I never had a mind of my own. Some parents don't deserve to be parents but I still love them. I can't be the evil they expected. Whatever we believe have some weird ways of affecting us if not dictating our life.I once believed i was haunted by a demon(yes,very real cos i do see it) .My life was shattered and directionless. I embraced religious activities as if my life depends on them,it sounds funny but hey my life depends on them really.In fact,incessant Religious rituals worsened my issue,something that is supposed to curb it and free me. When i began asking numerous inner questions,atheism reveals its deep colours in HD.I was enlightened!! Atheism is the truth,it assist me in unpacking all unecessary loads affixed on me by religion.My life began to take some meaningful shape,i account 100% responsibility on my life and the rest is history. HardMirror: Your mum was talking about self imposed curses... I would tell you the same thing. What does it have to do with Atheism? Unless you are saying you stopped believing in the devil from that time. So the absence of the devil in your mind eliminated the need for God? That would mean you had the wrong Idea of God's purpose in your life. I think there are curses that people impute on themselves. Especially if you happen to attend one of the churches specialising in Deliverance or breaking curses.(non of that happens in such places.) It's just a mischief to create bondage out of people.
