@banaby sorry about the denial. You have shown a great understanding of how the system works.
However, I do not quite agree that 'the youth' issue solely was the reason for your being denied. You have no travel history for starters.
She also was not just compelled enough about the whole conference thingie but like u rightly pointed out, visas are at the vo's discretion.

@banaby As interesting as your story is.. You got a lot of stuff wrong and I'm disappointed because you've gone through the thread meticulously... You should know that you're not ready for the U.S visa as at the time you applied not just for travel history alone and this is the number one cause of denial... You may have the funds and time to travel to the U.S but ties wise you may not be ready... About the married people and single people I have a different opinion which is.. If you're married it's a tie and if you have child(ren) that's another tie... As a single person it's very very easy for you to travel to the U.S and not return again nothing will happen meanwhile I know some married men and women do it but it's a bit complicated for a married man or woman to abscond to U.S and abandon his family just because he can send them money from U.S.. I hope applicant will take time out and weigh each tie critically before applying for U.S visa.. You may not be ready in January and be over ready by June.

@ Seyewest. Everyone is entitled to his/her opinion, being ready for a visit or not is the sole prerogative of the intended traveller, I won't say because I want to build up a travel history starts embarking on meaningless trips around the world just cos I want a US visa! As for me, the visa is not a big deal or a do or die stuff, after denying me the visa, I went to a good bar in town and helped myself to a chilled bottle of beer and a plate of hot fish pepper soup.

Issue of this marriage as a ties has been largely over-hyped in this thread. It is good to be married but what I want you to know is that being married is not the only thing those guys looks at. I have a couple of friends who have not even boarded a plane in their life not to talk of having a travel history, single, applies for the. US visa and gets it on the first application. I said earlier in my post that the destiny of Taiye is different from that of Kehinde , this over-hyped issue is what is causing some of our brothers and sisters to be lying that they are married when in actual fact, they are not thereby casting this integrity tag on them

What you should know is granting of a visa is at the discretion of the VO, if you like have a travel history of going to Stamford brigde weekly to watch Chelsea Fc plays, if the VO likes, he/she will not grant a visa. I have a friend who lived in the UK at a time and used the time to travel widely in Europe, he with his wife and baby appeared before these guys in Lagos consular some few months back to travel as a family to the US on vacation. Guess what? They were denied which goes to tell you that not all your visa application prescriptions are true. Though you dey try small sha.. **Yinmu**

THEY GRANT VISAS AT THEIR OWN DISCRETION TO INDIVIDUAL APPLICANTS!

When you were rejected you were given a paper with the details on it.
Please post the exact reason and the code numbers that you were given.

Something like 214b or some other code.
This will help us to understand.

Thanks you for your time babbs, highly appreciated. Someone said it is best to invite her over with visit visa then file for her here. Which do you think is quicker for her to get her green card?

babbs45:

Yes, it's the same. Your mom falls under the Immediate Relative (IR5). So, you look under that category on the visa bulletin.

Just checked the immigrant visa processing fee is $325 and the affidavit of support fee is $120. She'll be doing Medicals, police report etc.

Don't waste your time and money on one useless letter of invitation cos no VO will ask or demand for it. Just be clear and specific about your intent when filling your form and also be bold and confident to face the interview.

Have it at the back of your mind that if it has been destined for you to get the visa at that particular time, you will get it, a colleague of mine at work will be returning back to naija from the US next week, he got his passport only three weeks to when he went for interview and got the visa on a virgin passport with no record of travel history!!!

I continue to not understand why people believe that they need invitation letters. They are not required.

You should really just go to the U.S. Embassy website and see what actually is required: http://nigeria.usembassy.gov/non-immigrant_visas.html

.... To be honest am not angry because there so many other advice like the one you gave me not saying I should tell the agent to arrange twins and a wife to go and reapply which will still result to lieing. Am asking for advice because I want to use my real status and am not questioning the advice you gave me and to na Godwin I really appreciate your response. Thanks

OK, now that you want to be serious. Lemme be frank. Reapply for the visa anytime soon. Its a good investment of 48k. Put single. Go for the interview. Come clean, explain to the VO. He will reject you maybe. But he will update the record that you came clean. After 6 months, reapply hopefully it circumstances have changed. Eg more money, better home ties etc. But make sure your records are straight.

It will shock u d vo may approve you the second time around

If I may ask, how did you immigrate to the US? Your mom coming through with B1/B2 visa and then you filing for her is much quicker but it is little tricky. She'll be given a duration of six months to stay in US ( POE ), but the question is, if you file for her during that period, will she be interviewed before her six month elapses?

If you decide to take this route, then NVC will be eliminated out of the process. You'll have to file an I-130 form with I-485 which is the adjustment of status form with USCIS.

Not sure which state you live in but in Washington state where I used to live, it's very possible your mom would've been interviewed within that six month period cos, there are not too many cases compare to states like Maryland and New York.

Even though some people just wait it out, in violation of their B1/B2 visa, I wouldn't advice that. So this is what you can do, your mom comes in with a tourist visa, you file for her, if her interview date does come within that six months, let her come to naija and she can always come back when her interview is scheduled.

Very simple.

.

Azuh has clearly shown his ignorance about US visa applications hence should clearly be ignored as a tr.oll.

US embassy does not require tax or any other documents because they already know that we are smooth operators. The VO here has been singing this song since I can remember, if azuh clearly has read through he should have known better.

VOs know that we can forge Africa itself so they use other means to judge our sincerity.

Ur UK friends most likely had no ties to Nigeria. Those meaningless trips are fun! U should try it. Believe me. I'm going on a meaningless trip soon. I don't know why I bought a tkt but I'm going to open my mind. Soak up the fun and visit the alp mountains in Europe.

I've been on meaningless trips to qatar, uae, UK, us, kenya, ethiopia, Rwanda
I spent most of last year in US, i renewed my visa but changed my mind to tour Europe this year, im considering touring Asia next year, and one day Australia.

Travel. It opens up your mind.
