Corruption War: Is Buhari Learning From The Fate Of Prophet Eli And His Sons? by OLADD: 2:55pm On Jun 24, 2016
No doubt, one issue that is consistently in the news right from the inception of this administration is the fight against corruption. Virtually no day passes without a headline bothering on corruption related stories ranging from recovery of stolen funds, arrest of looters, suspects been placed on wanted list just to mention but few, all thanks to the new Sherrif in town. One year down the line, the picture is getting clearer and from all indications, a particular section of our polity is feeling the heat.

Without prejudice, corruption has been a bane in our quest for first-world status, hence any action geared toward confining the monster to the bottomless pit should be welcome by all and sundry. However, what should raise people's concern is the manner at which the menace is been fought. For the admirers of Buhari and his style of anti graft crusade, the end justifies the means. To them, how this govt arrives at its destination in ridding Nigeria of corruption does not really matter in as much as our stolen commonwealth is recovered. But from all pointers, unless we choose to shy away from the truth, this anti-corruption crusade cannot be said to be holistic, honest and all-encompassing..

And this brings us to the story of Prophet Eli in the Bible. The old man of God was a revered figure in the history of Israel. He was used mightily to judge that nation when they turned their back against the Creator. In short, many wondrous works were done by him. However, towards the tale end of his journey, Prophet Eli began to overlook the excesses of his household. He concentrated all his efforts in judging other citizens of Israel while completely ignoring the atrocities of his immediate family-his children. The long and short of this story is that after series of warnings which he arrogantly ignored, the wrought of God was unleashed on Eli and his household. Death came upon his children and from the ensuing shock coupled with his old age and fragility, Eli died miserably.

I guess someone is asking the question; what's the take home from this tale? We can't continue to pretend about the selective nature of Buhari's anti graft war. From available statistics, more than 95% of those caught in this administration's dragnet of EFCC onslaughts are members of the opposition. This should raise suspicions and resentments from those who loves Buhari and Nigeria in particular. God can never be happy with a leader that indulges in selective justice and the consequence can be dire. Eli was anointed by God to judge Israel but he deviated from His original plan and ended baldly. Nobody wishes Buhari's fate to be like that of Eli but he should learn from the mistakes of the old prophet.

We pray it doesn't reach such alarming level. The president won't be able to withstand such rigours.

And when a leader is seen to be selective in his judgement, the host of heaven would cause his adversaries to rise up against him and they may prevail.

Well, a precedence was laid in Odi, Bayelsa by OBJ and the man is still walking free. He was even the Chief Navigator for the enthronement of this govt.

you should be ashamed of yourself. You don't wish the nation well, you don't wish the unborn children well, if you did, as a nigerian with any sense. You will be grateful that the corrupt people are reducing irrespective of which party is being hunted. If you were wise you would expect this trend never ends with apc having the day of their prosecuution too. Today you should rejoice the theives in pdp are being wiped off, the people being accused in the pdp are being wrongly accuused ? Did they not do wat they are accused of ? You should be ashamed of urself

please stop displaying ignorance on matters above ur mentality. Being partisan with issues that have kept u unemployed and hungry. Maybe a family member of urs is one of the pdp theieves. Else if not, you will just be happy the theives are reducing. And don't care about the selectiveness. If another party enters by 2019 by god's grace, let them probe all apc and jail all looters. The point is corruption is dying and its death will visit everybody irrespective of party one day. This is pdp turn.

And you think going after only the "PDP thieves" is the best way of fighting corruption while APC looters walk free? Common!

and you expect APC to fight APC? Can PDP your party fight PDP? Do you fight your own family? How do you reason. When a theif is being accused and tried do we say why are we trying this theif, whatabout judges who are theives, what about lawyers who are theives, what about the theives who might be in the court room. do we now free the accused and chase all the above? APC is in power and byy common sense they likely to face the theives in PDP. At least these people aren't being accused unfairly. They actually did the crime. Thus wait and hope like me, let them root out all theives in PDP and make the party a good party of upright people, so come 2019 we can vote for PDP and start chasing the theives in APC. What should concern you as a nigerian is that the theieves stealing our common patrimony is reducing. Stop being a partisan beclouded nigerian

If indeed you wish the nation well, you'll be advising Buhari to make his fight against corruption all-encompassing and holistic. Selective justice is a whirlwind that blows nobody any good.

Firstly, you're a poor student of history. JJ Rawlings did the unusual by going after all looters in Ghana irrespective of political or tribal colourations.

Secondly, if you had read my post carefully, the main reason for Eli's downfall was his selective justice. It's a sin God frowns at.

Then what's the meaning of "I am for everybody but for nobody"? Overlooking atrocities of people in APC will lead to Buhari's downfall. Mark my words.

These kinds of comments are retrogressive and nation-destroying. Not all online writers are paid agents and certainly I am not one. Nobody is against corruption fight but it mustn't be selective. That's the crux of this post if you care to know.
