When you're called wailing zombies, you complain as if that is not exactly what you lots are.

Who said Emirates have stopped flights to or from Nigeria? A disoriented writer who named an article with such a false malicious headline and states the headline in ONE sentence without backing, and then launches a tirade lamenting the death of Nigerian Airways? Was it not the PDP that ruled for the past 16 years of Nigerian Airways's ruin? Who is surprised that we still don't have a national carrier after 16 years of PDP misrule?

What did Jonathan do about Nigerian Airways? Why are you screaming Buhari? Last time he ruled NA was a thriving airline with dozens of aircrafts. You zombies are so daft that you cannot verify the simplest of facts and swallow every trash you're fed.

Below is a screenshot of a return flight I just booked from London to Abuja on Emirates for July 15th to return August 31st. Emirates still flies to and from Nigeria.
We have only one kind of zombie in Nigeria, and those are Buhari supporters. By the way Mr. Fulani, I didn't care to read this trash, I don't read long zombie epistles.

Those that will lose their jobs because of this shouldn't worry. My sai Buhari is cooking something and will be ready for the good people of this country soon. Please endeavor to apply for the N-Power ASAP . It can accommodate all of you. Thanks.

Contradictory write up, as usual, full of historicals and sentiments but lacking in salient truths about the real situation. You wonder why other African countries have national airlines and Nigeria doesn't, question the 'pocketisation' that led to its funeral but acknowledge the airline was murdered by pimps, prostitutes and partying politicians. So where do you stand and how can you fulfill your desires for a ressurection when all the underlying elements remain till this day. What is your solution then.

My view is that, as not every man or woman should be in the institution called marraige, not every man or woman should get a college degree to make it in life, not every country should have a national carrier or an airline industry because it is abundantly clear, whether government or private, the airline busines just doesn't work in Nigeria or for Nigerians and this can be extended to most top end services and allied industries such as travel and tourism. We just donot know how to do it.

We donot have the financial capacity across board to make it a viable business (currently it remains elitist and no transportation means can afford to cater for only a section of the populace when it has to compete with rail and road for passengers and goods).

We are not ethical and honest enough to run airlines (because worldwide profit margins are always tight and the industry remains the most vulnerable means of transport to oil price changes).

We donot have the expertise to handle the industry (how many universities offer any course related to the industry, how many aviation schools are there, how many hangars, how many simulators, etc).

And we donot have the administrative, logistical, political structures to broaden the industry. How many private airports, airstrips, helipads. There is not a single one I know. No single building in Central Area, Abuja or Marina, Lagos has a helipad. Why, they will tell you security. The same security that held radio stations and telecommunications in the hands of central government for years under military rule for fear of coups.

These are the things that must be changed and established in a unique country like Nigeria before a viable industry can be created and a national carrier established. And even then how many developed countries have government running airlines?

Emirates Airline hasn't left Nigeria. They have only reduced the Lagos-Dubai flight frequencies from 2 departures to 1 departure daily. You guys should get your facts right and stop being a tool for spreading half-truths.

At times I wonder what the IQ of the average Nairaland user is, especially at this current times when it's very easy to verify facts online by simply making use of Google. Someone put up a post like this, and the whole comments is filled with people who are not even bothered to confirm the facts of the issue. They prefer to cling on to half-truths than do a bit of research to get the facts, yet they claim to be educated.

I could never have imagined that, this level falsehood could be easily peddled in this age of unlimited access to information. I just bought an Emirates ticket two days ago, and barely 24hours to the flight, no one has yet called to say they have cancelled any flight. So I don't know where bloggers and infantile news site are getting their information from. Gone are the days when Nairaland used to be the 'go-to' place for the most up to date information...today, it's a place I can barely recognise.

It got worst when free tickets were given to wives and concubines of government officials. Flight would be delayed for one minister held up at his girlfriend's birthday, prostitutes and pimps of ministers and airline's staffs were employed as air hostesses and aviation staffs. These among other pesky infractions killed Nigerian Airways.

Epitome of a people who lack Direction

Every government since independence did it in every commercial sector in Nigeria. If Nigeria Airways existed till this day, it will have continued. So we should be glad it is dead and not there further eroding our public finances. If you are an undisciplined man, it is pointless going into business. It is better you seek employment where you will be compelled to perform. Nigeria is not a disciplined nation so we cannot have national businesses.

Nigeria Airways is not the only enterprise to have been embalmed, mummified and buried by corruption in the public sector. Just sad though...

@OP referred to Ethiopia as a "tiny" country. Ethiopia is much larger than Nigeria, is the 2nd most populous country in Africa and it's airline is the largest and best in Africa. The Ethiopian (nationalist) spirit which is not as corrupt as that of their Nigerian brothers ensures things work. Bole International Airport is a lot cleaner than our MM Airport. Ethio telecom (govt owned) provides GSM services (not perfect but at least works).

They are a lot less endowed in terms of resources and wealth but you almost weep when you compare the countries. The growth rate has exceeded that of Nigeria.

Truth is Nigeria has no business being plagued by the ills of other Sub-Saharan countries but corruption has almost destroyed us.

Point of correction, emirates is not leaving Nigeria, Emirates has 2 flights everyday in Lagos and Abuja, morning and night flights they only suspend evening flights in both cities for a while due to the forex policy until the situation changes. I work at MMA. Airfrance/KLM precise so i knw better.
