Hey @Dfavouredone and @Teea2009

Have you both moved to Oz?
I also got the visa and already planning my departure. It'll be nice to plan together so as to make initial settlement smooth.

Anyone who is a Christian could find initial settling down easier by contacting any of this 2 main Nigerian churches in Victoria, RCCG and Deeperlife. And it is not necessary you should be their member or even be a Christian before they can help I think. Below are their web addresses and contacts.

RCCG Address: 30 McLennan Dr, Kensington VIC 3031
Phonesad03) 9376 9989

For all planning to travel on a ONE-WAY ticket, I advise you to try the International Organization for Migration (IOM). They have reduced tickets for migrants, it's called concession fare. And in this time of floating Naira, I find them to be cheaper. My Flight has now been booked, and I'm due to land MELBOURNE by 18th August. I'll be happy to connect with nice people that are already there.

One important question: does anyone here have an idea if one needs a transit visa for a stop over in Dubai while traveling to Australia even if you have no intention of leaving the airport premises?

Cheers

For my earlier question on Dubai Transit Visa, YOU DON'T NEED ONE FOR AS MUCH AS YOU DON'T INTEND LEAVING THE AIRPORT. But if you have a very long layover period, and wanna explore the city rather than sit bored at the airport; then airlines have lots to offer: airport and city tours, hotels, etc all at a fee. In this case, you need a transit visa.

Another attractive perquisite offered by airlines to passengers with Long Layover Time (more than 8hrs) is a FREE Hotel Accommodation and Meal... Emirates call it Dubai Connect. I wasn't eligible for this because "there's a flight option with a shorter (1hr25mins) layover time which you should have chosen rather than the longer one you chose". So, "Terms and Conditions Apply" indeed. But you better not risk it coz 1hr25mins is to short a transit time to unboard one Flight and board another, knowing full well that most airlines close boarding gates 20 - 30mins before take off and the journey between terminals may be long; you may even experience delays going through security checks. Simply put, YOU MAY MISS YOUR NEXT (CONNECTING) FLIGHT.

No.
I got a Skilled Recognised Graduate Temporary Visa ( Subclass 476). It's valid for 18 months from date of 1st entry to Oz.
I didn't know much about the Skilled Independent Visa when I applied for mine. But now that I'm aware, Subclass 189 is in view; I'll need to get good IELTS score coz I need the 20 points to meet the minimum score for Skilled Independent Visa.

I'm an Engineering graduate (BEng in Chemical Engineering and MSc in Drilling Engineering).

I applied in January, 2016 and got it in March, 2016.

Best Wishes

Wow!! This is good, it means the visa process does not take long. We are looking forward to going through the skillselect for Visa 189 and 186. Hopefully we will gather all the requirements by next year and then fill the skillselect/ EOI form online in anticipation for the invitation to apply for visa.
I am an Architect. Congratulations!! will keep in touch.
Thanks.

When did you mail them? You should take note of weekends, so expect a reply during business hours. Also, which of the email addresses did you send your inquiry to? It has to be the emails provided for CONCESSION FARES.

I contacted their global office for CONCESSION FARE, and copied their Nigerian offices.
IOM replied me within 2 working days.

Ok that's fine for as much as it's @iom.int. I can see you contacted their Australia office.

But I used the global and country specific email address which was dedicated for Concession Fares. The addresses are:
osu@iom.int
iomlagosops@iom.int

Give them close of business tomorrow. And note that Australia and Nigeria have different time zones. Nigeria doesn't book the flight, Ghana does it. But the Nigerian team mediates.
