jayblaze001: please can u explain more what caused about the system collapse on the National Grid its pertinent since you're more involved so you will know better than us thanks. anyway I also believe we'll have a better electricity regime with this government |

It's possible. Parts of jos in Plateau State, barkin ladi have 24 hours light except for Thursday which is maintenance day. They've have power since 1922 and it's been that way till date 3 Likes |

mrprezident007:Absolutely, electricity is not rocket science for real. Just 2 months into this administration when gas was supplied to powerstations and when we were at the peak of the rainy season, Nigeria's power generation rose to just a meagre 5000mw but the entire country felt it; the entire country kept celebrating up to 22hrs power supply and it was like a miracle. But that was just a mere 5000mw. Since then, some legal issues militating against the take off of some power plants, and some other technical issues have been resolved. There are also plans to bring on stream by the end of 2016, up to an additional 1500mw to 2000mw after some extra infrastructural and administrative constraints are settled. If 5000mw could give Nigeria almost steady power in the peak of the rains, I'm sure an addition of up to 1500-2000mw this year to the grid would ensure our generation does not fall below 5000mw even in the driest season. But unfortunately, it appears someone has noted this great possibility and they have taken it upon themselves personally to ensure it never occurs. Hence the most important gas pipelines taking gas to most of the thermal stations have been targeted and blown up several times in the last few months just to ensure that this incremental power supply never happens. |

Not possible, we cant afford it. Nigeria needs 160,000MW to meet domestic consumption. And currently, we generate average of 2,000MW monthly, and no net production increment. And according to the thread below, Fashola spent 400m Naira per megawatt of electricity. https://www.nairaland.com/1474680/gov-fashola-spends-n400-million So, multiply 160,000 x 400,000,000 = 64, 000,000,000,000 (64 trillion naira for electricity alone). We are talking of USD185 billion, 507 million, 246 thousand, 376 dollars and 81 cents. Hahahahahaahah, and we have less than 30 billion external reserve and about 2 billion in Sovereign Wealth Account, and I assume nothing in Excess Crude Account. Tufiakwa, what a poor nation. Where can you get such money for electricity alone when we have Boko Haram, unpaid salaries, no motorable road, no transport network, no tomatoes and not even enough money in reserve. The country is bleeped. Pack your bags when you can if your intention is to enjoy 247 electricity or simply install your own solar system. Again, the country is bleeped. 1 Like |

I think the best possible solution now is to move totally for Nuclear power (India as an example).. .. ..Am still yet to see the benefit of 2016 Nuclear Energy submit expecially here In Africa, nothing has been put in order so far. |

Phonefanatic:Nigerians similarly enjoyed power for months under this admin ladt year, my people didn't have to use their gen for 2 straight months between july and septwmber last year and that is a yearly ritual for as long as I can remember because of high water levels in thise months. The high water levels normally supplement the thermal power stations during the peak of the rains. The only reason we may not enjoy the effect of high water levels this year is because politicians and their boys have taken it personally upon themselves to blow up every goddamn pipe taking gas to thermal power stations; I doubt only the hydro dams can handle the power demand this time. |

What is actually wrong with Nigeria as people and country. Why can't we have electricity? I am right now in Uganda graded as one of the poorest country in the world. Indeed they country is poor but enjoys 98%steady electricity. What is wrong in my country?. |

Yes! It's possible in 3-5years. Let dis centralize power generation to national grid - let each state generate power for themselves adopting any technology suitable for their environment. Private companies can do this also and will be regulated by each state government. |

obicentlis:A 1000mw gas power plant would cost roughly $1billion; the president's travels would not cost beyond $1 or at most $2million per trip. That's like 0.1% of the cost of a 1gw plant; so please try and make a better argument. |

We might need over a 100,000MW to totally power everything and everyone without blinking, especially with a growing economy and populace. But there was fairly stable power supply at 5,000MW last year. If the militants and vandals would allow, Fashola promised 7,000MW by end 2016 to early 2017, and 10,000 by end 2018. @7,000 MW we should have roughly 12-14 hours stable across board. @ 10,000 MW probably 14-17 hours across board (relatively). @15,000MW we should be doing 20 hours + . . . which is a good step going forward. The above can be achieved only if power generation and transmission is decentralized and adequately diversified. The present laws make it "rocket science". |
