I cannot say how good they are, however i can say that without private sector participation we would make no significant headway

Fvcking hell, why are people still buying T72's when there are T64's available.

Its a pity they didnt get involved with project hoefyster. Sure it would be a 6X6, but they could have gotten some units without much hassle.

Indeed, its high time that SADAC starts co-ordinating some of its major defence programes, that way you can do things that would be too expensive for individual states.

Operation Biro, for example, would be far more cost effective if the total build was for 12+ vessels

And the project to replace the SAMIL again would be more effective, as your order would dramatically increase which makes domestic industrialization more cost-effective.

There are a couple thousand of them in storage across the world.

T-64 upgrades are pretty lethal... look at Ukraine who they give their tanks to tells us quite abit about them. Their T80's go to the most elite units (1st Guards Brigade), and are kept well away from the front. Their new T-64BM BULAT is being given to their best regular army units (17th Guards Brigade)

While the T64B and BM's are given to regular army units in the dombass (30th Mechanized Brigade) and their T72s given to national guard and formations such as "Azov"

While furthermore, they have focused on upgrading their T64's over their T-72's.

So we can basically see that they consider it to be something like: T80>T64BM BULAT>T64B>T72

This all makes sense, because the T72 was developed to be a cheaper version of the T64.

Pic Unrelated: SANDF Ceremony at my old School in rememberance of the Battle of Delville Wood. My School has one of the 3 (?) Delville Crosses taken from the Battle Feild, while Micheal House in KZN has the Honor of keeping the Delville Wood Battle-flag

Interestingly the SANDF announced last year that they were going to be making an effort to increase the number of whites... I think their target was over 20% or something.

This is the problem with quotas... if you stick to them you are constantly having to adjust the numbers to "represent" your population. One time you have too many whites, then too many blacks, then not enough coloreds, then not enough indians... and then not enough women... and when you finially get it all sorted out you have to start again, because some minority is out of balance.

Quota systems made sense back in the mid-1990's, because it was dangerous to have an Army and Police force dominated and controlled by Whites (some of whom were disloyal)... but now, in 2016? Its a pointless exercise.

Hire the best, fire the rest.

Quantity is it's own quality, the battle of Khursk proves this immeasurably.

However to pull such a feat, other participating countries would have to pull their weight, which sadly is impossible. Asides RSA and Angola no other country in SADAC has that financially muscle to put much of a dent on general production cost.

Angola is pro-Russia, so the financial burden would always fall on RSA, nothing would dramatically change if smaller SADAC states join in.
