the only reason i see is that the shool na pkako, no ajebo school go mandate students to cut their hair

Lies, I went to an ajebo secondary school in all sense of the word "ajebo". Many prominent Nigerians had their kids there and the school fees was really expensive but we all kept low cut. It was an only girls school though, owned by Sisters of St. Louis.

Which control una dey talk about. E get some schools wey girls' haircuts be insult to the parent teacher association of the school. Come see styles like footballers' own.Anything wey we wan do abeg, let us do it well.If we allow them make hair or do gorimapa, moderation and modesty should be our watchword.

You forgot this, to avoid hairstyle competition with their teachers. I've observed female teachers have this natural and irrational hate towards their female students ...especially the fine fine ones.

Nigeria is a place where things are done in ways that will make you confirm its a fourth world country. Some restrictions in this country are so awkward that hell will wonder. Many see hair as only meant for adults, so having it is disrespecting to your elders. And most of the schools around are run by local champions that fought during the civil war
you sound like you wrote this under pressure, read it again and do some re-thinking please.

i guess it was a boarding school, but never the less 9 out of 10 schools in nigeria that keeps low cut are kpako. your school alone is not enough to nullify my proposition, so i still stand on my initial argument.

Also, the hair cutting is preparation for the future...when they graduate and get a job.

Many jobs require you to keep your hair in a certain style. Especially factory and military style jobs.

I think cutting of hair some how reduces sex abuse in the society. 90% of men cannot differentiate a chubby teenager with long hair from a matured girl and teenagers generally have that urge to get involved in adult activities.

If you do not mind, can you give the name of the school as i guess it is a catholic boarding school. Iam planning a catholic boarding secondary school for my daughter next year.

Yes it is a catholic boarding school. It's called Louisville Girls High School (LGHS), located in Ijebu-ode, Ogun state. It's a really good school and i would recommend it to any parent, though it is quite expensive.

Wa o. I somehow guess that it is LGHS since you mentioned the Sisters. Iam always checking their websites for information. That is one of my options for her. My first choice is Holy Child College, Ikoyi as the brother is in St Gregory. She passed HCC this year but i stopped her as i want her to be 10 years before going to boarding house. She will do HCC and LGHS next year sha.

Iam very happy at the low cut for girls and boys being practiced by the catholic schools. I really support it. If such is not there, some over zealous parents and those that want to show off will start buying Brazilian, Peruvian, India etc costing so much weaves for their kids and this cause something else in the school. Imagine, a kid girl spending hours at the school saloon to do 1milliion braids or fixing crochet braids.

Very common among most Catholic girls' secondary schools.
bunch of hypocrites. that's how it wasn't allowed in my daughter's school, until a white girl enrolled and we all waited for them to insist her hair must be cut, for where? if it were to be abroad, will they spare a black boy/girl to flout a school rule?

i hope she gets into LGHS, i think LGHS is way better than Holy child...lol
I know you would say it's cos I'm an alumni, but sentiments apart, I have cousins that went to Holy child too so i'm talking based on experience. in terms of academics, morals and all, LGHS tops holy child. All the best with your daughter smiley

To me, it is not hypocrisy. The hair of that white girl is her natural hair. She did not put attachment or weaves. Will you for instance allow your daughter's hair to remain in her natural state and become afro. A black person's hair and texture is different from that of a white person. In my daughter's primary school for instance, parents have been told not to use beads and all sorts of colours for their daughter's hair but you need to see what some mothers put on the hair of their small kids in the name of fashion. If you sent the child home for correction, you need to see the so-called coming to the school to vibrate and insult teachers. You will see some with so many beads that the child's head will be heavy. Some mothers will use up to 12 different colours. So, iam sure for the catholic schools to avoid all these drama, they just tell you to keep your natural hair low and if you do not want, then you take your child to another school that allows all sorts of hair styles.

Thanks. She wants to be close to her brother. That is why she herself is rooting for HCC. The choices were St Gregory/HCC or CKC/LGHS or Lumen Cristi/Presentation. The boy is now in St Gregory and the girl going to LGHS might present a big logistic challenge of shuttling especially on visiting days and vacation days. Iam still researching sha. I still have a lot of time to make the final decision. The Louisville Sisters are very tough and of a very high moral standard. So, not surprised at what they are doing in LGHS.

Of coutse a white kid will not have to cut her hair because it is seen as the long hair being natural to her. It is more of our cultural setting because girls colleges run by the Catholic Church here in Kenya have their students' hair done the way they feel more comfortable with.

Makes no sense. There is absolutely nothing wrong in letting student make their hair. It is stupid policy.

Every organization (a school is also an organization) has its policy. If you are not fine with the policy, you are not forced to go there or put your child there. Will you also say say that there is absolutely nothing wrong in letting a boy sag his trousers in school or tuck-in his shirt and that a school that says that is making a stupid policy. There is what is called a dress code and having a low cut is part of a dress code. In some schools, a hair style is given to the girls at the end of the week for which every student that is not on a low cut has to adhere to. Is that also a stupid policy because a school is not allowing you to braid or plait your own hair style?.
