[quote author=bestestgirl post=48574894]This Is The Correct Name Of This Popular Nigerian Fruit Most Nigerians and indeed Africans, call this delicious fruit 'pear'. While that is not totally wrong (because it is also popularly known as 'African bush pear'), the actual name of the fruit is 'the safou'. It is native to Africa and very rich in vitamins. Its botanical name is Dacryodes edulis and the tree is evergreen. So the next time you stop by the road to buy roasted corn, just ask for some delicious safou (disclaimer: I am not responsible for whatever follows that request) Must you and google paste d unripe Dacryodes edulis.Ripe ones no dey?Which language is SAFOU? |

It's "NSAFU" not " Safou". Might as well spell it correctly if you don't want us to call it UBE or PEAR. |
Re: "Safou" Is The Correct Name Of This Nigerian Pear by cyprex: 11:16am On Aug 18, 2016 |
Whatever the botanical name is, is not my problem. This fruit is 'UBE'. it has its origin in Africa especially Eastern Nigeria. some part of South South, Kogi and Benue parts of Nigeria also have it. It may have other localized names but the most accepted name is UBE and that is what we must promote. Oyibo should not prescribe the name we give to our local fruits. So next time you stop to buy this local delicacy say 'Madam give me UBE & CORN 4 Likes |

Op...its wrong to say this or that is the correct name of a fruit except it's is botanical name. Different tribes and cultures use different names and one doesn't make the other one wrong. Eg orange is not the correct name for Osan. Osan is yoruba orange is English. |
