A couple reasons. With the complexity of today's car
engines the engine compartment can get pretty
crouded.......
1. Save space in the engine compartment. 2 it is cooler in the trunk of the car. Cooler temps can help prolong the battery life. 3. If the car is a rear wheel drive vehicle, the extra weight in the back of the car can help with traction. 4. On some vehicles they have the battery under the rear seat i.e. BMW, which does this for weight distribution purposes and helps cornering abilities. |

GAZZUZZ: believe that the battery in the boot is it the service battery ?? if that starts to fail or not hold its charge very well it can give all kinds of electrical problems. just saying |

Do not forget we have the auxiliary batteries. We see that on top notch benz, bmw and even hybrid cars. There is no special intention to this. It just serves as a heloing hand to the primary battery of the car in cases where car is full electronics. How do you expect a car to run well on just one battery when you have up to 100 control units on one car  3 Likes |

GAZZUZZ: Another weyerey motor is W164 Mercedes Benz ML350/550/63 AMG 2005-2013. They had their battery under their front passenger seat. Right under the rug trim. |

Can you attach the lighter to the Gas Cylinder? Same reason why you can't put the car battery in the boot. Any spark caused by the battery can lead to an explosion. Fuel no be water, em get Enemy oh! 1 Like |

Obviously none of you has had the battery in your CSR trunk die on you yet. It happened to a friend of mine with his Mercedes C200, battery died overnight and the next morning nothing was opening, not even the door locks. He eventually had to cut a hole through his rear seat to get to the battery in the trunk. 2 Likes |

The battery is set in the trunk closet to the the engine,this is to allow it delivery as much power as possible to the engine when cranking.The further out the more difficult it is to deliver power. 3 Likes |

My car's battery is in the trunk. However, there is a secondary battery terminal unit under the hood (primarily for hooking up jumper cables). That one isn't an actual battery. |
