Nigeria's Fanendo Adi breaks more records at MLS champions

Fanendo Adi

Nigerian striker Fanendo Adi is fast becoming a legend at MLS champions Portland Timbers as he continues to break and set new records.

The big target man, after scoring one of the goals in his team's 2-1 win over hosts CD Dragon in El Salvador, became the first-ever player to score competitive goals in five different countries having done so in USA, Canada, Guyana, Costa Rica and El Salvador.

Adi is the only player to appear in all seven CONCACAF Champions league games for the Timbers since their first appearance in 2014.

The Nigerian, who has scored 17 competitive goals in 2016, is now only a goal away from being the club’s all-time record goal scorer in a single season.

Adi has scored four goals in CONCACAF Champions League since 2014.

How Rohr Intends To Bring Osimhen, Awaziem & Nwakali Into Super Eagles Before World Cup 2018

Coach of the Super Eagles Gernot Rohr has detailed out how he intends to integrate three Nigerian prospect in Chidozie Awaziem of FC Porto, Kelechi Nwakali of Arsenal and Victor Osimhen of Wolfsburg into the Super Eagles fold before World Cup 2018.

While the coach is yet to call up Nwakali, Osimhen and Awaziem were part of his first set of call ups but they failed to make the match day squad for the game against Tanzania.

The duo were subsequently dropped by the coach for the squad against Zambia in October, but their chances with the Super Eagles is not over yet as alongside Nwakali who is on loan to MVV Masstricht, the coach has big plans for them.

” Awaziem and Osimhen are very much part of Rohr’s plan, but they need to sort out their club form and be at their best. They are very young and he doesn’t want to rush them just yet. Don’t forget, he was once head of youth football in Germany” A source told Owngoalnigeria.

” Nwakali although has a lot of work to do, is also high on the radar of the manager. The plan is to slowly introduce them into the team using friendly games before the 2018 World Cup in Russia”.

Only Camerounian striker Ariel Ngueukam was retained while Nigerian defender Abonima Izoegbu, who has three appearances to his name with a goal as well was released alongside two other Africans.

Ivorian Abdoulaye Meite Ivorian and El-Hadju Gana Kane from Senegal was also released by the team, in a clear out that only affected black players which is now been viewed as a racially driven decision.

All efforts to get across to the released players and officials of the Finnish side proved abortive, but we will bring you update in the coming days.

Arsenal Star Mesut Ozil : I Loved Watching Austin Okocha

Arsenal ace Mesut Ozil has showered praise on Alex Iwobi, stating that the Nigeria international reminds him of his uncle Austin Okocha, who played for Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany before hanging up his boots.

The 20-year-old has established himself as a first team regular at the Emirates after breaking into the quad in the second half of last season.

“He reminds me of his uncle Jay-Jay Okocha. He was a player I loved watching.” Ozil told the Sun UK.

“Alex reminds me of a mixture of him and Edgar Davids. He’s really strong on the ball, also defensively, but he’s good in front of goal too.”

Mesut özil was eight years old and playing for the youth team of Westfalia 04 Gelsenkirchen when Okocha left Eintracht Frankfurt to join Fenerbahce in 1996.

The dribbling wizard, who played at three World Cups, also turned out for Borussia Neunkirchen in Germany.

John Obi Mikel is my role model, says Granada youngster Uche Agbo

By Shina Oludare

The promising defender has singled out the Chelsea midfielder as an example to follow, and is determined to become a key Super Eagles’ member.

EXCLUSIVE
By Shina Oludare

Granada youngster Uche Agbo has revealed that he sees John Obi Mikel as a role model, and claims he has learnt a lot from the Chelsea midfielder.

The defender, 20, who recently earned his first senior national team call-up following Leon Balogun’s injury, also expressed his determination to prove his worth to cement his place in Gernot Rohr’s squad.

“Super Eagles' captain, John Obi Mikel is my role model,” Agbo told Goal.

“I like him so much and also love the way he plays. And obviously, I have learnt so much from him.”

Having featured for Nigeria at the 2013 Fifa U20 World Cup in Turkey, Agbo is relishing the prospect of putting on a spectacle to earn his Eagles’ debut against Zambia.

Also, he is optimistic that the three-time African kings will bounce back to reckoning after missing the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.

“I feel great, I'm very happy to be called up to the Super Eagles, this is my first call,” he continued.

“The Super Eagles is a team with a lot of talented players, I intend to work hard in camp then leave the rest to the coaches.

“For our recent slum, we have to work hard, play as a team and hopefully, we will be back on the international scene again very strong.”

The former Enyimba player has been a regular in the Nasrid’s squad this season with five games out of six in the Spanish topflight.

Nigeria/Zambia: Balogun Sad to Miss World Cup Qualifier With Zambia

By Mansur Abubakar

Super Eagles defender, Leon Balogun, has declared that he is not delighted with his latest injury setback which rules him out of Nigeria's clash against Zambia on October 9.

The player, who plays for Bundesliga side FSV Mainz, was hurriedly hauled off in Saturday's game against Bayer 04 Leverkusen after sustaining what is suspected to be a knee ligament injury.

A statement on Mainz official website revealed that Balogun will miss at least the next two games for the club while the defender himself took to social media to express disappointment of not being able to link up with his Eagles teammates for the clash in Ndola.

"Not delighted about my injury at all! It's part of the game though. Good thing about it, I'll be back real soon" Balogun twitted moments after the update from his German club.

Meanwhile, Eagles' Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr has replaced the injured defender with Granada FC's defender Uche Henry Agbo for the game against the Chipolopolo.

The Watford player who is on loan has impressed for his La Liga side this season with some tipping the Spanish side to move for a permanent deal at the end of the term.

According to a statement released on the Nigeria Football Federation's website Agbo has already been contacted by Rohr and his invitation letter sent by the Glass House.

Agbo will join the other players who are expected to start arriving at the Bolton White Hotel and Apartments, Abuja on Sunday.

Arsenal star Mesut Ozil has claimed that Super Eagles starlet Alex Iwobi possesses the qualities of Jay-Jay Okocha and Dutch midfielder Edgar Davids, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

Iwobi is a nephew of former Nigeria captain Okocha, whose dazzling skills lit up Europe when he played for Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany, Paris Saint Germain in France and Bolton in England.

Davids played for Ajax and Juventus among other big clubs and was one of the best midfielders of his generation.

Iwobi has been in fine form for Arsenal this season and was voted the man of the match when the Gunners defeated Chelsea 3-0 on Saturday.

“He reminds me of his uncle Jay-Jay Okocha. He was a player I loved watching,” Ozil told Arsenal’s matchday programme before their Champions League win over Basel on Wednesday night.

“Alex reminds me of a mixture of him and Edgar Davids. He’s really strong on the ball, also defensively, but he’s good in front of goal too.
“He’s developing really well and if he continues the way he’s been playing for the whole season, he will enhance his game.

His Goals /Goal ratio beats them all... smiley

End of discussion.... wink

No matter what anyone comes here to say about Nacho's game. The boy remains a rare fine finisher. One thing that makes him different is his shot accuracy. Damn it, most of his shots are goal bound or makes d GK to pull a great save.

For his game time. He'll get to play more. Remember he is just 19(soon be 20 by Oct.)
I'll still like him to come off d bench in a star studded city team than commanding a starting shirt in a lesser team.

Note: Running an hundred dash with a more better athletes makes you better though you maybe coming last every single time but ur time will be getting better cos de're making you run faster. But running with people u can outrun will only retard. ur speed, cos you'll always beat them hands down. So leave d guy alone and let him be fully baked before leaving for another club-this is d development stage and we don't want anything to hamper his growth.

So you believe the Walcott of this season will bench Alexis Sanchez as a wing forward.

Iheanacho already has a better goal to game ratio in the EPL than Sanchez. If Wenger has his conversion rate, he will play Sanchez where he prefers. As a wing forward to contribute to creative plays. Walcott will bench because Iwobi and Sanchez are ahead of him.

The point remains that, Sanchez is playing upfront because of there is no trusted striker. Iheanacho already has 2 goals 3 assists in 160 minutes of Premier League football.

If he was at Arsenal, he will attack and make the starting line-up.

Walcott has been on flames this season... In the last few games, Arsenal has played their best football for a very long time. Sanchez is adjusting well to playing as a lone striker so i do not think Kelechi will start.

Kelechi can displace giroud as a second striker but he can't start at the moment.

Sanchez will not need to adjust if he is played wide. That is why Walcott will bench. Iheanacho will fit in because he is ready to go. Arsene Wenger plays Sanchez upfront to adjust as you said because the attack is weak.

That is why Iheanacho will start and Sanchez will outclass what ever flames Walcott is spitting this season.

Right now, Walcott is undroppable. Iwobi is also balling... And Sanchez is playing really well as a striker.

If anything, It will a competition between Iwobi and Iheanacho not walcott but Kelechi will struggle to start.

Arsenal also has Giroud and Perez for Kelechi to compete with for the striker role.

Giroud and Perez do not count, hence you confirmed Alexis Sanchez is ADJUSTING to the position. If they were that reliable, Sanchez will not need to adjust.

As for Walcott, you and I know that Iwobi and Sanchez will bench him in a flash.

With Iheanacho, no adjusting. He is ready to go with World class statistics behind him.

You already said earlier that Iheanacho will displace Giroud. So why talk of competition again?

Simple Iheanacho will strike and Iwobi and Sanchez will play wide. It is clear as daylight that Iheanacho will start. With a better striker at Arsenal, Walcott will drop.

Right now, the way walcott is playing... He can't be dropped not for anyone. Sanchez is playing very well up front and i can't see Kelechi doing better. He is scoring and creating a lot of chances.

I said Kelechi can displace Giroud but there is no guarantee.

Saying Sanchez is adjusting to the new position does not mean Kelechi can replace him now. He is already playing very well in that position

The point is clear. You know Iheanacho can displace Giroud. Leave out the no guarantee. You know.

Arsene Wenger will not play Sanchez upfront if there was a real threat up front. You know this.

You know Sanchez will bench Walcott any day.

So it is clear Nacho will start because with a better striker, Sanchez would not need to adjust.

I a just repeating myself. The point speaks for itself. As long as Arsene Wenger is forced to play Sanchez in an unfamiliar role because of the toothless attack, Iheanacho will start.

You and I know Sanchez and Iwobi will bench Walcott any day. So all these with the way he plays do not count.

Sanchez will not play there if Arsenal had a better attack. You and I know this.

And which no.9 or improvised no.9 is better than Nacho in the present Arsenal team?? Walcott? Giroud? Perez?? Sanchez??... Who

Alexis, Perez and Giroud are all better. Nacho has potential, but please don't overhype this guy. He isn't making the first 11 in Arsenal. Fact.
