Glo will probably want to sell mifi devices, if their services is fast people will definitely buy. ...
I'm on the hot S, according to mobility blog tests.
My device works with smile, Ntel, Spectranet.....
Someone else said mtn works on it too.
I will only feel bad if etisalat does theirs on a band that my device doesn't support.

ok, let me explain.

Dat a phone is 4G enabled does not mean its gonna work on all network or with all sims. all these 4G network providers av frequency/bands dia 4G can work on. so the best tin to do is to do a little google search abt d frequency/bands a particular phone supports.

Glo 4G is BAND 28 (700MHz)

MTN 4G is BAND 20 (800MHz) and BAND 7 (2600MHz)

NTEL 4G s BAND 8 (900MHz) and BAND 3 (1800MHz)

and so on.

How about Etisalat?

While i agree with you 100% on the 1800 and 900 being GSM bands, what i am essentially saying is that LTE can be deployed on ANY band.

Ntel is using it's 1800 and 900 for LTE, while GLO,MTN ,Etisalat, Airtel are using theirs for 2G/3G; ( Etisalat that is presently refarming 5Mhz out of their 15Mhz on their 1800 Spectrum to deploy LTE ; trial will commence in Lagos soon)

Hmmm.....this is not accurate

ntel did not refarm , they deployed 4G technology on their allocated freq spectrum.

Any operator can deploy any technology on their freq spectrum. MTN Had bought the Visafone 800Mhz spectrum to deploy LTE but for NCC interventions, that is why they rushed to deploy on the 2600Mhz band

2600Mhz spectrum that MTN deployed is not good for indoor coverage, because of poor wall penetration of high frequency bands. So essentially all the Operators SMILE, Spectranet, GLO , ntel and MTN are all INDEED 4G LTE.

The only difference is the band, on which it is deployed on.

If you want us to discuss the advantages of each band, then we can discuss further

I am interested ! What are the advantages?

Glo is doomed already if they dont reverse this highly ridiculous 4G band.
what nonesense 4G that almost anyone cant use?
so you must own a galaxy s7 iphone 6+ htc M10 to use this adultrated 4G?
little wonder nobody heard about it prior to its release. glo is very silly on this one

You can't get a 4G lte mifi for 5k. By the way, some glo 4G offer on their website suggests they already have a 4G mifi and router for sale.

The only phone i know for now that supports all LTE bands/frequency is moto x pure edition.

It doesn't support all bands. Band 28 and 40 aren't among.

this is definitely not true. for the record, i will say that glo az always given data at the cheapest rate and they wont stop doing that. the prices of the 4g lte shows that all dey aim is convenience. alll hail glo the grandmaster of data.

How come out of all bands available, they released their LTE in the least used one in Africa?

I don't know how deep you are in this field, but let me just state 3 simple advantages. I won't go too technical

The assumption here is that you are allowed to choose any freq spectrum by the local regulator

1. Coverage Distance: Frequency is inversely proportional to distance. Meaning the Lower the Frequency the further the coverage distance. So Glo Operating on 700Mhz covers more distance than ntel Operating on 900Mhz & 1800Mhz and both covers more distance than MTN on 2600Mhz using one site

2. Wall Penetration: The lower the frequency the better with wall penetration. So meaning Glo again has an advantage over ntel and ofcourse both have this advantage over MTN in term of wall penetration . Assumprtion is that both are shooting from same site and same Antenna Power. So a typical MTN will have to deploy elaborate indoor solution to Airports, Big hotels , etc to have more seamless LTE coverage on the 2600Mhz

3. Cost : From the 2 above, you can see that MTNN will deploy more sites to cover thesame area covered by one site of ntel and GLO. So in that case, e.g If GLO need about 2000 sites to cover Lagos, MTN might require 6000. This means they will spend much more to achieve thesame coverage, that is the reason they bought and want to use the visafone 800Mhz, but NCC has not allowed them thus far

Ok now that most device dnt support dia band nko, weytin go com happen? or Pple wey manage buy 4G phone go still need to go buy GLO 4G mifi abi? undecided

There's nothing to justify this total wrong move by glo.
A serious business man sells what people would buy.
Not the other way round.
What is the excess of introducing a brand knowing fully well that it won't hold water?
How many persons are using those supported phones at the moment?
If they had used the band that is widely supported it would have been nice even if it takes them 3yrs to cover the entire country.

I hv been using Glo N500 for 1.6GB even before they introduced 4G LTE ..

note:My phone doesn't support 4G or dont have 4G

I bought the data plan last month which will expire on 8 of October.
Does it mean that it is a month data plan as against what the op wrote.

Please show screenshots and drop the subscription code if the one you did is for one month.

Well that is the dilemma they have to overcome now. They need to subsidize devices heavily so that people can use their network

IMO, I think they are... Not everyone would want to carry a mifi just to be on LTE! Most would prefer having it direct on their Smartphone.

Etisalat migth use this against Glo i think.

When I first heard the news about the controversial glo 4G LTE, I suspected some phishing deal.
For instance; when mtn was about to launch its 4G, the news was in everywhere for several months.
So Ntel too.
Now all of a sudden, glo just came out to announced this ridiculous 4G that has zero value.

Why haven't they come out to address the public as to why they are using this unpopular band?
The most annoying part is that, they (glo) are fully aware of this lack of supported devices yet they are sending sms to people to approach their offices for LTE activation.

Old men/women with touch light phones who have no Idea on browsing the internet over crowded glo office yesterday just because of the sms they received that they should go and upgrade their sim for LTE .

Can you imagine that? Don't they know the phone their customers are using?(imei)

This whole idea is to monetize the stuff cus I doubt if glo truly supports 4G yet.
