I have an urgent question. For those that used BA, will they accept your fit to fly if it's more than 48hrs? My hospital wants to mess me up.

Okay guys.
I was going to post this on my return, as part of a fancy 'missionary journey' post... once I settled down... But that day when I finally settle down doesn't seem to be near the horizon (been sleeping like someone on drugs!). And I realized that the more I wait, the worse for those who may have benefitted. So here goes:

I was able to reduce my infant ticket from earlier quotes of $469 (one way ticket) and $593 (return ticket with option of claiming back cost of one leg).
My flight was on KLM.

How did I do it?
After all the grammar they were speaking, I got inspiration from above to do the following:
1- search flights originating from your departure airport (in my case LA-Lagos-LA). These flights are cheaper than Lagos-LA-Lagos, and as baby is an American citizen, you are within his rights to do this.
2- Baby's departure date should be the same date you're leaving US.
3- For Baby's return date, search the airline website for the cheapest date you can find no matter how close or far apart the outward and return dates are.
4- once you get a good combination, call the airline and tell them you want to add your baby to your ticket. If they ask for the itinerary, give them the dates you have searched. They should then give you a cost of 10% of that booking cost.
If they tell you no seat, be ready to defend ya case. Baby is a lap infant and doesn't need seat, you just want to take advantage of the good deal you found.
5- if they ask questions be ready to defend your position. In my case they asked how will baby use the return leg? My response was that I will either book my ticket to tally with his return leg when the time comes, or claim a refund on that leg, or allow the ticket to lapse if I'm unable to travel on his return date.
6- If you get a good rate pay IMMEDIATELY! No dulling!

After doing this my final ticket cost for baby was $91.66 and it was a non-refundable ticket but I didn't mind.

So far this worked for me on KLM and for another NL mum (who I shared the info with) traveling on BA.

I want to believe it should work for other airlines too.

So ladies, all the best as you try this. Make sure you come and give your testimony when it works for you oh!!! wink wink wink

Ogz and kizzez!!

Hi Shamecurls. Congrats on the birth of your LO. Just a quick question. I guess your visa renewal was through dropbox. Did it go through without being called to the Embassy for an interview. Again was your renewal in Lagos or Abuja? Thanks.

DW did in 2015 and got her Zero balance, renewed Visa in 2016 and just had another one last month in Philly...........

It is better u book ur LO ticket earlier and pay the 10% fare or monitor the price. i paid about 22k naira @ $79 with equivalent of 200 naira to a dollar last yr december. later got a refund of 6k after three weeks of arrival. I paid in their lagos office VI.

chloe7:
mums that have used KLM have always quoted such high fares for their LO's, KLM is one of the expensive airlines in terms of adding a baby to ticket, I think what they do is 10% of fare of the date you're travelling and not 10% of the fare you paid, the fare keeps changing hopefully it will come down, what you should do is monitor the date you are returning and once you notice a drop book instantly, also clear cookies so it doesn't keep bringing same thing over and over.

So my missionary journey don start.

Flew Virgin with stop over in London. I was not asked for fit to fly at all in Lagos, throughout the flight to London and on to LA. Had an overnight layover, passed through UK immigration without problem.

Hi Fyorgyn, Congrats on a good poe experience. Some quick questions. I am also flying to the US via Virgin but do not have a valid UK visa so before I go to apply, do you have a uk entry visa and if yes, transit of normal visit? And passing via immigration in the UK, were you able to go into town or just to move to another terminal.

Thank you as I look forward to your response.

Yes, I do have a valid long term UK visa...and yes, I went into town as it was a looooong lay over and Virgin do not provide accommodation and all.

However, I asked the UK border officer as he was stamping me in if he would have let me in without a visa. His answer was yes, he would let me in.

He said that as long as you have a valid US Visa and a ticket showing your onward journey, it is at the discretion of the officer to let you go in without a UK visa. In other words, yes you can go in but it is at the discretion of the officer you meet.

It's also on their website sef

@ Nnystc, thanks for the heads up. Will they ask for your booking reference before adding the baby?
