What type of Fuckery is this ??

They're not Nigerian company or affiliated with Nigerian government, Mtn is a south African company, they have the fucking right to transfer any amount of money they want to any country in the world

What do you want them to do ??
Run their business and then deposit all of their money into a Nigerian Bank account ??

Your government fined Mtn 40 billion naira and they paid up
Now, you are looking for another Fuckery to extort money from them

Mtn have done better than the Nigerian government in the history of Nigeria, do you know how many jobs they provide for Nigerians ?? Do you know how much revenue they bring to Nigeria ?? Do you know how much they pay in taxes to the Nigerian government ??

In one sentence, tell me what the Nigerian government have ever done for any Nigerian, dead or alive

This govt continues to prove it cannot but trusted. There is more to this than the accusation. How can a company that has to invested its resources in the last fifteen years suddenly pill out $13 billion of the economy.
Sensationalistation of every issue of our economy will not help Nigeria. This is not how to build an economy.

You nailed it bro. The bold part, you nailed. Let's just watch and see what infraction was committed

After reading all the comments herein, i have reaffirmed my earlier assertion that a major problem with Nigeria youths is that everyone wants to comment, air his or her opinions publicly while they are totally ignorant about a subject matter. Having an education is meant to enable one make informed decisions and offer well-thought out answers in a discourse. The FEMM act was even mentioned in the writeup and yet some folks here still spew thrash about MTN having a right to dispose of their monies as dey deem fit. Evn MTN are not contesting the legality of the allegation against them but rather whether they are guilty or not. Please folks always endeavour to read well before exhibiting your ignorance on NL. Humility demands you ask if you do not know. No one knows it all. One Love

Is MTN not entitled to transfer THEIR profits, their OWN money, to their home country ?

If we don't allow foreign companies to transfer their profits to their home countries, then why exactly would any foreign company be foolish enough to come and invest in our economy ?

MTN electing to transfer their huge accumulated profits over the years is simply a vote of no confidence in the present managers of the Nigerian economy.

I have always said it that this clueless government has been waging a moronic war against CAPITAL, a war that it is surely guaranteed to loose, .. unfortunately, to the detriment of 180m Nigerians.

There is nothing wrong in transferring their profit but d problem was it was done illegally, d profit was made in Nigeria so it's paramount we deduct our tax b4 dey take d reminder anywhere dey want to, mtn laundered d money out of Nigeria to avoid paying tax

To victimise either a promoter or someone highly connected or even out of ignorance. For example, it was alleged that the trade minister was at one time a director in MTN which was never true.

Yes I know MTN is a corporation with shareholders but this transcends it.

Look...if you call this victimization, what would you say about the imposed fine that they eventually agreed to pay...would they have payed such a huge amount if they had not been found wanting?... sentiments apart, MTN have been having it their way in time past...not anymore. This reminds me of when they claim per second billing is "absolutely not possible" until GLO came to rescue Nigerians from their evil monopoly. Again, a sister company of the same mother DSTV charges you per Month wether you switch on your decoder or not but charge their South African brothers pay per use. How is that ethical or favorable to their host country?

Very unintelligent comment

South African companies e. g MTN , DSTV rob Nigerians blind with their unfair practices. Our past governments have colluded with them. Thank God this government is even making an attempt to curtail them. if push comes to shove... MTN would lose more if they have to leave Nigeria

You must be a South African, if not be ashamed to call yourself a Nigerian.

imagine defending the exploitation of your country

if the govt feels their profit margins are outrageously high , the best they could do for us as citizens is to enforce reduction of tariff, selling a percentage of shares to the public, but not restricting them frm moving their cash... bad belle pple

These reasons or points you raiser are really not relevant unless in the court of the public. MTN flouted a rule and was sanctioned. If MTN says per second billing is not possible, its simply business and because you have a competitor, they had to be put on their toes. That's entirely different from if they repatriate their funds.

From their reputation for flouted rules and evil business practices you don't need a prophet to tell you they moved money "illegally" in the next few weeks or months watch as MTN will beg for a plea bargain just as they did during the fine imposed on them.

The keyword is ILLEGAL. Cash transfers are regulated all over the world. There are legal channels for that. If you are caught with a cash filled suitcase at Heathrow airport for example, you would be investigated for money laundering, even if it is your legitimately earned cash. You must pass it through the normal channels and pay appropriate charges on it. Illegal transfer distort the economy as the cash cannot be traced. It causes loss of revenue as well.

Go and read the OP again and stop making illogical comments. MTN has been transferring the money since 2006 and the previous PDP governments did nothing about it. In fact, officials of the past regimes collaborated with them to perpetrate this scam against the Nigerian people. We should commend the present government for bringing this out in its bid to rid the country of all sorts of corruption instead of calling the war on corruption a moronic war.

Going forward, MTN should be forced to enlist on the Nigerian stock exchange. By so doing, management will be more diffuse and they will have to make more public disclosure of their financial statements. Regulators and interested members of the public will also be able to monitor them more effectively on issues like capital flight.
while you are at it. Please commend them for putting this country and it's citizens in an impoverish state. Also praise them for masking the face of this country with ridicule and blindness via leadership. You want to write... So that people would applaud you?
Okay... In the last regime... When the worth of naira plummeted a bit... What was the drastic reaction of the public? And what did the leaders then, do? Did they not adhere to the demands of the citizens? No matter how bad we tag them to be, this is the leadership skill they possessed that your golden jewelled administration can not offer.

Don't bother quoting me as this is in no means an open letter for dialogue, rather, a word of advice from a fellow brother.
