The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved eight new private universities across the country.

The approval was granted, Wednesday, during a meeting of the Federal Executive Council, FEC, which held at the council chamber of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The Minister of State for Education, Anthony Onwuka, who briefed State House correspondents, said the ministry “submitted a memo seeking approval for eight private universities after recommendation by the NUC”.

He said the eight approved universities include Anchor University, Ayobo, Lagos; Arthur Jarvis Akpabuyo University, Calabar, Cross River; Clifford University, Owerinta, Abia; Coal City University, Enugu; Crown Hill University, Kwara; Dominican University, Ibadan, Oyo; Kola Daisy University, also in Ibadan; and Legacy University, Okija, Anambra State.

Mr. Onwuka said the new universities were given three years provisional license.
He also said all the new universities are to be mentored older ones.

He said Anchor University will be mentored by the University of Lagos, Jarvis University by the University of Calabar and Clifford University by the University of Agriculture, Umudike.

Coal city University will be mentored by the University of Nigeria Nsukka; Crown Hill University by the University of Ilorin; while the two new universities in Oyo State, Kola Daisy and Dominican universities, will be mentored by the University of Ibadan.

Legacy University, Okija, will be mentored by the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka

More to come…

Graduates are flooding the labor market every year, BSc/HNd Graduates have been reduced to Sales boys and girls in Labor market, Keke riders, Online sport betting gamblers, MMM Freaks, GNLD Marketers and so many other useless and odd jobs. Yet Federal government wants to build more Universities when they cannot provide jobs for the number of graduates being produce by already existing universities. God what crime dis we commit that our Government does not know its left from right. Those of y'all quoting me, Govt approving new ones is also same thing as building and what we Nigerians needs is jobs creation, job approval and not additional universities to an already dying System cry

FTC twice in a week. Am really getting good at this. Dedicated to all MMM Freaks. I dreamt last night it crash and there were high BP and chaos everywhere grin

More private universities under this recession?

I thought the NUC was supposed to challenge the FG to work towards revamping the Federal/state universities and its curriculum as well as retirement of aged lectures....and employing most contract-lecturers rather than bringing more new private universities...

Bro, do you know Nigerian Universities can only admit less than 30% of admission seekers that means about 70% of them roam the streets . Nigeria's problems are interwoven, Solve one another arises.... God help Nigeria.

What's the hope of the common man.
The rich and churches float universities that only the RICH can afford.

Every effort to preserve the standard and efficiency our public institutions were known for is frustrated.

Nigerians are the reason why Nigeria is in comatose.

If there's none from the North then there's none. There's no point laying emphasis on it.
We're not complaining
