East African country Kenya is in the news for the right reasons after doctors at the Kenya National Hospital (KNH) carried out the first conjoined twins separation with 100% success in Africa.

The two babies Favour and Blessing (pictured before surgical operation), were born joined at the waist on 23 September 2016 but a groundbreaking corrective surgery which took a team of 50 doctors about 23 hours to complete on Wednesday 2 November 2016 ensured they can decide to live without needing each other.


The twins are being held under close watch at KNH's intensive care unit and further surgeries to construct their separated body parts (ie skins, Instruments, anal canal and bowel) will be underway in coming weeks.

One of the Best stories coming from Kenya as of recent. The environment of that surgery theatre looks well equipped. I wish this serves as an eye opener to our government officials, who would rather spend millions to travel overseas for medicals than coming together to built and equip our Hospitals with the necessary equipments.

I know a particular clinic with exact same theatre like the one pictured above with C-arm here in Nigeria. The theatre is working perfectly well and correct surgeries are taking place right there in Lagos.

We have experts in Nigeria. Though most of them are not fully based here but they perform the surgeries here, I tell you.

Something good coming from Kenya

Actually Kenya is chock full of good news. This kind of news is the norm, rather than the exception here. Most of what folks read on NL is peddled by faceless and nameless morons and is raggedy gossip culled from like minded websites and sleazy media masquerading as "news". Does that represent the picture of a nation? I would advise you to follow respectable news outlets from there to get anything called news.

But this is not the first successful conjoined twins surgery done in Africa.

The first or one of the first was done by Ben Carson and a team of Zambian and South African doctors and more in South Africa. It was the case of the banda boys.

They were conjoined twins also albeit Craniopagus conjoined kind.

This one from kenya is Omphalopagus conjoined kind.

Craniopagus and Omphalopagus are both kinds of conjoined conditions seen in certain twins who joined together. Another is Thoracopagus(joined at the chest) and Thoraco-omphalopagus (joined at chest and upper/lower abdomen).

So in all.... Great news and awesome achievement all the way from the land of Kenyatta, home to top schools like Egerton, Jomo kenyatta and more.

Kudos.... But this isn't the first successful conjoined twins separation surgery done on African soil.

I've seen some magic already come out from our theatres. What I once watched on TV (Dr. 90210) and Grey's Anatomy, I have seen live in an operating theatre in Lagos.

This is not true. Conjoined twins were separated here in Nigeria at OAUTHC in the early 90s, an operation led by Prof Adejuyigbe.
