ProudlyKenyan:
These naira folks are running on empty. Their N90 trillion economy (which after fall of Naira translate officially to less than 300b or well in black market 200busd) Is just fake.

Kenya retail sector is SECOND only to South Africa in Sub-Sahara Africa! The more I read what Naija got, the more I am convinced Kenya clearly is so much ahead of Nigeria despite not having petrodollars. Nigeria suffers from famous dutch disease..their economy has been completely strangled by oil and there is nothing going on there outside oil sector. Oil catches cold and Nigeria is in ICU.

Look at our real estate and construction sector...it so huge and private sector driven...these Naija thinks it the UN building houses in Nairobi shocked

Their biggest mall Tanapa - which most of time doesn't even electricity - is mere 18,000 sq meters. Nairobi boast the two biggest malls outside South Africa. Soon to open Two Rivers malls sit on 120 acres of land and will have lettable space of 700,000 sq meters - total space of 2M Sqm
- the mall itself will be 62,000 square meters. Garden city is about 65,000 square meters.

Opening on valentine - Nairobi's Two Rivers Mall - biggest in Sub-Saharan Africa outside South Africa. Anchor tenant will be French CarreFour (second biggest mall after wallmart).

Another Wikipedia flaws victim... ABA mega mall is 280000m² with leawwbake space of 100000m²....stip being a wikipedia tool and victim

Yes, 10 billion dollars is really too low for Nigeria. If we were owing $200 billion then you know problem is mounting. Did you look at others on the list?

America is owing several trillion of dollars even higher than their GDP.
The United States and nations like Singapore can have a high debt because their economies can afford to sustain that debt. Not a single African country can sustain debt of more than 50% without the panic button going off because questions will be asked about how that debt will be paid off

Now,lets assume your pics is real.
Look at the pics you posted, only Nairobi is on the list in kenya because you concentrate your resources there. Let's add Ibadan, Calabar, port-harcourt, enugu, kano, Benin, etc then you will know how many malls are in Nigeria. We have 36 States plus Abuja making it 37.
You do know Kenya has 47 Counties, right

Am sure you are not OK. How did you come to that useless conclusion. Have you been there to see for yourself? You just spit rubbish to feel better.

You flow nothing better you are still below us in every way. Abuja alone have more malls than Nairobi.

You just foolishly claimed Nigerians don't shop in malls but you have just 3 million people in Nairobi out of over 45 million in kenya. So where is the remaining 42 million people shop in kenya.

Don't think you are talking to a fool like you.

https://www.unicef.org/kenya/overview_4616.html
From this report 44 million Kenyan live below poverty line out of how many. You must be foolish to compare yourself with Nigerians.

This again shows more than 2/3 of Kenyans in Nairobi live in slums. So how do Kenyans shop in Malls.
The UNICEF report was debunked by the 2009 census which showed less than 700,000 people out of Nairobi's 3.4 million live in slums.
The report has its benefits though. Kenyan slums are the largest recipients of aid from NGOs on the planet with one agency serving an average of 30 people. Way above the ordinary ratio of 1 agency per 90 people

Chai..see as wikipedia makes someone clueless.... there's a mall in osogbo but your wiki didn't include it...who knows how many
There's another mall in bungoma that my wiki didn't include (didn't know I own wiki), and many more from all countries, but it does give a snapshot of how generally things are. But you are free to edit it and add the mall as long as you got a link pointing to its existence.

Why bring me into this?

Young man let me advice you..it is a sign of mental shallowness to curse and abuse on an interactive forum. Infact I ignore people who act as you do cos they are a threat to themselves as the act wricks lack of mental cohesion and good psychological well being.

When you read an opinion of another just learn to calm down and tender yours. Being educated goes beyond the ability to write grammar but it also involves the intellectual prowess to hold up arguments without vulgarity.

Donald trump may never get close to the white house due to this appalling nature you just displayed ....cursing while you should be discussing issues intelligently is a low life atitude.

Please adjust and don't bother cursing me cos you will only be wasting your time..I am too intellectual matured to troll.

Have a great day

I've been following this thread with some interest for some time now and I must commend my Kenyan brothers and sisters for their patient and relentless advocacy. However , I think it would be clever of us to leave Nigerians in the dark with regard to the progress we've made so far. Deng Xiaoping, the architect of the Chinese economic miracle, had an interesting saying, "Hide your strength and bide your time." Sun Tzu also thought that it is important to play weak when you are strong and strong when you are weak. We are competing with Nigeria for investors and they would be less competitive against us if they underestimated us. When we showcase our strengths, they are more likely to retaliate effectively. So maybe let them continue thinking of themselves as giants while we quietly consolidate our advantages. wink

Asanteni sana,Wakenya wenzangu! Idk there was such a building frenzy! When I have time I'll set aside 2 days just to see what's new. If you were last in Kilimani or Kileleshwa a decade ago, you'll get lost!! I've been avoiding photos cause figures are easier and photos can be misused-how many times have Naijjas recycled old pix??
I prefer facts and figures-no subjectivity. Also that allows for much correlation and extrapolation. Get ready,Naijjans cause its about to get ugly!!
1 kshs is 4.70 naira.

A Nigerian soldier is being paid according to
his or her rank and years of service. The list
below is a report seen as of December 2015..

Salary Structure of the Nigerian
Army
Private Soldier earns about N48-49,000
Lance Corporal earns about N54-55,
Corporal earns N58,000
Sergeant earns N63,000
Staff Sergeant earns N68,000
Warrant Officer earns N80,000
Master Warrant Officer earns N90,000

Nigerian Army Salary Structure for
Commissioned Officers
Second Lieutenant- N120,000
Lieutenant- N180,000
Captain- N220,000
Major- N300,000
Lt. Colonel- N350,000
Colonel- N550,000
Brigadier General- N750,000
Major General- N950,000
Lt. General- N1 million
General- N1.5 million
Those are the salary of Nigerian soldiers.
What is your take on the Nigerian Army
Salary?..
https://www.nairaland.com/2971576/nigerian-army-salary-structure-how

KDF guys get 3.5 to 4 times that.

Your docs get around 45 ksh, ours get a 100k and will soon strike. Naij teachers get 10 k kshs,a third of ours....I could go on and on and on...
Do you still insist you're a half trillion dollar economy??

Your petroleum per capita consumption is slightly below ours at 93 barrels to 110.

Why is the IMF so far off base? Because it is doing what it often does: it is taking the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) official inflation data at face value. That official rate averaged 14.3 percent from January to August of this year. For the IMF forecast to materialize, official annual inflation in Nigeria would need to average 17.6 percent for the September through December period. What did the latest inflation report from the Central bank of Nigeria show? According to the CBN, annual inflation was 17.9 percent in September. The IMF’s blind acceptance of the CBN’s data is a big mistake.

Btw,I'm not happy about this. I wish you were truly a half trillion dollar economy,(with humility!!). Everyone at the CBN and Finance min needs to pay! Ofc playing with stats is par for the course;the US does the same to understate their real unemployment of nearly 40% while people say China's been overstating their growth at least 1.5% YoY for nearly 2 decades. However their supporting data supports their creative accounting on the surface, unlike CBN Nollywood type voodoo.
Now the CBN gov and co are stuck in the worst possible position-a Zugzwang bind: a chess position in which any move, forward or backward will irreversibly lead to loss. Do they bite the bullet and admit their mendac....ummm,wildly imaginative figures or do they stick it out pretending theirs is still a 500 bn$ economy?

Truly, the skies above CBN HQ Abuja are stormy! Its not rains but the chickens coming home to roost.....

I would rather be a child than dumb and uninformed.

All the things you mention are NOT special to Nigeria and it's only somebody living in ignorance who would used that to claim Nigeria deserves a status in Africa bigger than the rest.

See, many countries stood up against apartheid - what Nigeria did for SA is nowhere close to a quarter of what Tanzania did. Currently Kenya is home to over 2 million Somalis and Sudanese who've run away from war. At some point for over five years the government of Somalia was located in Nairobi. We give some aid to our neighboring countries when in need....................so do you still believe Nigeria deserves a special status in Africa for doing things many other Africans do ever on a larger scale?

You guys need to travel and read about other African countries - the ignorance you display here is sad.
very well said. We've been saying the same thing for years now

About 80% of Nairobi cbd and 90% of the rest of the city was planned and built from the late 60s to mid 80s after independence, by Kenyan technocrats fresh from learning abroad. The Nairobi colonialists left and it's plan was a small and fledgling town

well, I don't understand how you do your thing there but I guess its just like merging other counties around the Nairobi to form the metropolis. If one googles Nairobi it only brings up the 692, that's why I thought it's similar to ours.

Lagos the smallest state but most populated,
Niger, the biggest in size +95,000km°.

They all have their level of urbanization and otherwise.
Counties are just administrative divisions in a state. A state can have many counties. Just like a state can have many local governments. For example, IKEJA can serve as one for Lagos as it is the administration capital of Lagos. That is more like a local government. In Nigeria we have 774 local government areas and they all have chairmen and others that administer them in different states.

The Kenyan don't know what they are saying, comparing themselves with Nigeria is a big mistake. Most of them don't even think before they talk.
