You list all the Eastern States yet over 70% of their population don't even live in their state. Igbos don't like their state of origin. They're scatttered all over Nigeria. 20% in the North, 50% in the West, 10% in the Middle Belt, and just 20% in their state of origin. Now tell me again, which state is the best to live in?

i. Abuja

Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria is every man’s dreamland. It is located in the center of the country, and the seat of power for all Nigerians. It was deliberately planned to be an architectural masterpiece and to compete with the most beautiful and standardized cities in the world. Living in Abuja can be costly because it is the government seat of Nigeria, and accommodates the wealthiest folks in the country. The biggest companies want to have a headquarter in Abuja and the best international hotels are located there. So living in Abuja can be quite expensive, even in low places like Iyanya among others. Housing is costly and food is costly because of the daily influx of people into the city.

But Abuja has the best security in the country and more or less the safest place for tourists and expatriates considering the heavy presence of policemen and soldiers in the city. Remember the president and lawmakers and federal ministers are all resident in Abuja, hence the heavy security mounted day and night there.

The hotels are of international standards, the road networks are exceptionally great, CCTV cameras mounted at every street to minimize crimes, business opportunities abound everywhere, the power supply is very stable, airports are standard, and everything is just fine here. But standard of living is high and may be difficult for low-income earners in terms of accommodation and lodging, feeding, and other things.

WHICH airport is standard...current Nnamdi Azikiwe or the site under construction? Go to Dubai and south Africa and see standard airports or are you not an international traveller? No standard airport in exists anywhere in Nigeria ok.
I have office and residential house in Abuja...power supply is zero compared with standard power supply around the world where average of 363days power supplies is obtainable. Tnx.

For me, the best cities to live in are;

Enugu - clean, well organised, large, lovely inter-city road network, commercially buoyant

Uyo- compact and close nitted, clean, affordable and still growing commercially

Calabar- affordable, cool place to be

Sango Otta, Ogun- affordable, cool place to be

Abuja and Lagos are already established cities so I would just include them for that sake.
Calabar is not affordable to a common man.

Pls op remove Ibadan from that list asap. Ibadan is no longer that safe haven we used to know. One million boys, soludo boys, Indomie boys to mention but a few are terrorizing the ancient city on a daily basis, cases of armed robbery everywhere with boys storming your street in their 20s with ladder to scale your fence, robbing from house to house, pls don't just conjure something on Nairaland without verifying the actual situation. Those guys will even rob you and demand your car keys to carry their loots like TVs,laptops, hometheatres etc. Ibadan ko, Ibadan ni!

OP, please remove PH from that list. Portharcourt is more or less is an insecure large slum settlement filled mainly with shanties/villages and cannot even make the list of twenty best cities to live. I can support my claim with pictures.

Best cities to live in- serene cities with peace, low crime, good people, decent housing etc. Abuja, Enugu, Awka, Asaba, Akure, Abeokuta, Uyo, Calabar(in no particular order) takes the lead. These are cities that your door can be open throughout the night and you will not hear a knock. Very peaceful and beautiful to enjoy your wealth.

Where you from?
Talking about cult, na Yoruba man bring am come this country. .. Wole Soyinka
The word "Agbero" we hear and use to is a Yoruba word.
Only the cultists and agbero in Lagos are greater in number than the whole of Bayelsa state population.
This is a partial write up, period.

You know absolutely nothing about Abuja... Single lanes? Dude where? Hungry policemen? Where?
Even in China you find slums close to their best cities. You have no issue here.

oglalasioux:

I believe everywhere you've been in Abuja you were greeted with smelly, noisy, dusty villages. One is not supposed to see slums side by side with your beautiful Abuja. You'll find slums and sleaze side by side with splendor even in Asokoro. A pathetic slum greets you from the air when landing at the airport. Until these slums are cleared please don't praise the city to high heavens.

Is the central area supposed to have one way lanes? Do you know a visitor can never drive into the central area due to the confusion there and the hungry policemen who lurk around knowing fully well a mugu must fall? The singular reason driving in Abuja's central area is difficult is because 50 percent of the roads there are uncompleted. Both avenues taking you into and out of Abuja from the airport have single lanes. Is that OK for the best city in Nigeria?

Am interested in this topic cos am planning to move to a new town to settle down by next year march. My proposed destinations include some of the state's mentioned here ; Ibadan, Akure, Makurdi & Calabar. I prefer a destination that is highly commercial with business opportunities, moderate cost of living and safe. My best pick is Akure but am open to your suggestions.
