Hello all, I delivered my little one late last month and we are doing great.. Thank God. Can anyone pls assist on passport and birth certificate... how long does it take to process it here in chicago cos I would like to return by month end.

Hi @mademade. First of all, congrats to u and hubby. All you need do is go to the first page of this thread or the 1st page of the other parts of this thread. Itemized are all the steps you will be needing to take as regards birthing in the U.S. Also do well to read through the threads as much as you can so you can gather as much info from people's posts and experiences. Then in the event that you need some clarification with specifics, feel free to post your questions and you'll get your answers. That's pretty much how it works here. All the best sis

Everyone is enjoying their Christmas Holiday,attending functions. So its very few people that have time for Nairaland. But after the holiday u will see people once again travelling and attending embassy appointments,then they can have some new stories to write.My opinion though!

I: 8 months
Vo: faces hubby. What do you do?
DH: Dental surgeon
Vo: (He didn't seem to believe or was probably surprised. Vo asked many questions about his profession (if he really does surgery, how long he's been practising) and his place of work after which we showed him the letter from his office. The letter head was ... Integrated Services bla bla. The Dental clinic hubby works with is under d company. He asked what the company does bla bla bla. Said ok. Then asked what i do.
I: Postgraduate student
Vo: ve you traveled before
Me: no (though i have been to Ghana before. Felt the question is for international trips)
Dh: yes
Vo: where
Dh: Ireland
Vo: what for
Dh: elective course (i was expecting hubby to explain better hoping his answer wl really convince d vo dt he's a dentist cos he went for a dental exchange program in Ireland where he underwent some dental training in his final year at medical schl... bhet seems hubby was not with much words. )


Vo: ok. What are you going to do in TX
Dh and I: to have our baby
Vo: do you ve dr's correspondence
I: yes. I gave him letter frm dr
Vo: how much will ur trip cost?
I: 15k dollars (passes budget)
Vo: who is your sponsor
Dh: my father
Vo: what does he do
Dh: bla bla
I: (passes intro letter frm fil n brngs out d company's statement of account)
Vo: (collects d intro letter also reaches for d soa on seeing it. Looks through) i don't see ds covering 15k dollars. (D money in d account is over 8m o)
I: it's sufficient sir
Vo: well, it's a company account. He has to pay workers . Cant rely on ds.
I: it's his company. He's the ceo
Vo: (seems inconvinced)

I: (passes another soa to him. Fil's personal account wt 2m sth)
Vo: (looks through) doesn't cover 15k dollars
I: 15k is an estimate. D main medical bills cost about 6k dollars
Vo: types for a long time. Looks tru d docs again. Types o
At ds point i thought we finally got it.
He asks for finger prints after which he returned our documents then passports. I cent beliv! Gives us yellow paper. Says bla bla bla. I ask why. Says it's in there. Thank you. About turn.

Note* : before d interview noticed d agent father in law used made some mistakes like filling no to d question of have you made specific plans, stating dt father in law and mother in law (who already ve valid visas n often travel annually) are accompanying us.

Me sef dey wonder since how many months 70 lean pages . Lets share our experiences, transcript and bills. I know for some people pregnancy hormone is working tiredness and all, some others vigilante and the Euphoria of a new baby. God will help us all.

For me this is really a missionary journey. Every time I have Dr's appointment I leave the house 3hrs before and get back 4hours after. I spend a total of 10hrs out. Someone traveling from Abuja to Lagos by road will get there before me. When I get back I sleep like someone who fought with a lion and cannot sit down but lay down through the next day cos of buttocks pain . All this Americans can ask questions oh (how many month are u? Is it a boy or a girl? Is this ur first? Is the baby moving ?it's really gonna hurt so bad , ur bump is so small) chai I tire.

Hospital: 2800 for VD
Pediatrician : 400, each office visit: 190
Immunization: 70
Epidural: 600
Doctor Johnson.

The doctor does not give letters, I met him when I got to Chicago.

It's st Alexius medical centre. I don't know anything about CS but I know the doctor and hospital bill is higher.

Credit card? Call your bank
Not all naija cards are working abroad now, only gtbank, access, Fcmb and UBA are the ones i've heard that can be used online abroad but there's a limit of $100/ month for GTB and $200 for access, so I think it's the limit that's the issue here but regardless still call our bank they'll definitely have a better answer
