you can go to your school and ask for a discharge later, which will be given to u and subsequently NYSC will certify you ad long as your school is able to convince them of why u ain't serving u can even tell ya school that u have got admission to study abroad for ya masters and u can't afford to wast a whole year as the opportunity comes but ones, belive me with ya wallet and persuasion ya vc can make things happen
p.s. Make sure u go through a lecturer you are familiar with

ok now what if u have an extra year because of a strike action some yrs back? how does it still feel? should be thesame feeling of lost time in my opinion

Hmmn... Some can actually die for this service thing. Truly, NYSC is getting boring but trust me, that certificate can actually have a lot of impact on your career. Some outfits celebrate it as if it's New Yam Festival. If there's anyway you can undergo it, as long as it has not been cancelled, please do.

I keep saying it. If you say NYSC is a waste of time, there are two things involved. I is either you haven't served or you worked your way to where you contributed NOTHING, so it was truly a waste. If you really served, you will contribute to either the present or the future of this country. Corp members in the medical profession contribute to the present while other who primarily serve in the education sector contribute to the future of this nation. The truth is that some pupils/students won't have teachers if not for the NYSC programme. So people won't have access to the presently poor medical services if not for NYSC.
I know many ex-corp members that contributed so much to where they served that they were offered appointments (mostly teaching jobs which most rejected). I also know of those dashed lands and other things by the community. Go where you are posted and do your bit for humanity. Like some have done for you.

Guy u can serve without really serving and get your discharge on POP day.

Step 1: get mobilized, collect call up letter and go to camp


Step 2: go to camp and don't participate in anything, so will be posted to a remote place, or bribe Ur platoon officer that u want to be posted to a remote village for Ur PPA..

Step 3: report in Ur PPA after camp, go straight to Ur Zonal Inspector and use the power of Naira to convince him to do Ur bidding. Tell him you want to travel for masters and u don't want to stay and serve, u need the discharge.
He should be signing the monthly clearance and payment voucher, he should be keeping the 19800, Den promise him more money. Give him Ur nysc account details and atm card with the pin. Let it be his so he an withdraw all d months allowee.

I assure u, u will not only serve, u will ve Ur discharge certificate sent to u via courier days after POP by the one who is supposed to make sure u serve.

DONT FORGET TO GIVE THE Z.I MONEY O. LIKE 50k before and after the deal.

You might well have a point sir,actually that was the whole idea of NYSC in the first place...to socialize and familiarize but sir, after socializing for 4-5-6yrs in d university, I think the aim of NYSC should no longer be that, I just think the system should be restructured, become a programme of choice, and sir I definitely dint wait till my 4th year or NYSC year to have a personal objective or strategy to take on the world, I've been doing that ever since I saw my admission status some years ago....so sir I would say all ur points are exactly why we have this system but as with our politicians we vote for a reason, it has failed and I hope Nigeria is not failed too.

it is not a year wasted considering the opportunity you have to socialise, strategies and consider what you want from life. the government object for NYSC might be defeated just like everything else in the country, but your personal objective to find yourself as a young adult remains. do yourself a favour spend that year growing yourself to take on the world.

i thought is was a complete waste of time and tried everything to possible to avoid it but trust me, NYSC is your one last chance to form worthwhile contacts, find yourself and get yourself prepared for a life long career.
