Super Eagles Will Stop Bafana AFCON 2019 Dream - Babaginda

Ex international, Tijani Babanginda has said that the Super Eagleswould dent Bafana Bafana of South Africa's dream of qualifying for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nation.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria will challenge Bafana Bafana, Libya and Seychelles in Group E, with the top team in each of the 12 pools and the three best runners-up advancing to the finals. Both Nigeria and South Africa failed to reach the 2017 Cup of Nations tournament, which kicks off in Gabon Saturday with a fixture between the host country and Guinea-Bissau.

South Africa edged Nigeria in the 2015 qualifiers at the start of now sacked coach Shakes Mashaba’s tenure, and may fancy their chances again with the Super Eagles having also failed to qualify for the 2017 event in Gabon that starts on Saturday.

The former Ajax winger told Soccernet.com.ng that the team would pick the automatic ticket ahead of South Africa.

"I am quite sure the Bafana of South Africa will be waving their heads regards to their team's chances of qualifying for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. The current Super Eagles are hungry and battle ready to dent their quest of qualifying for the tournament," Babanginda told Soccernet.com.ng.

"It was so sad that they stopped us from qualifying for the 2017 AFCON edition that will be kicking off today, however, they will be unlucky this time around considering the fact that the Super Eagles players will be hoping to correct the wrongs of the past.

"We shouldn't also forget that teams like Libya and Seychelles are not push-over and it would be good if we can pick the maximum points from them just as the team is doing in the World Cup qualifiers. Definitely, Nigeria will beat South Africa to win the automatic ticket for Cameroon 2019 Nations Cup," he said.

Chelsea Loanee Abraham Sets New Personal Record After Scoring Against Cardiff City

For the fourth straight match in the Championship, England U21 international Tammy Abraham was on target as Bristol City lost 3-2 to Cardiff City at Ashton Gate on Saturday afternoon.

The Chelsea loanee gave the home team a 2-1 lead in the 78th minute after he beat goalkeeper Brian Murphy with an overhead kick, but the Welsh team secured a win with two goals in the last eight minutes.

After registering his name on the scorecard against The Bluebirds today, Abraham surpassed his previous personal record of scoring in three consecutive matches, which was set between August 27 - September 13, 2016.

Prior to this weekend’s matches, only Newcastle United’s Dwight Gayle and Brighton’s Glenn Murray were ahead of him in the scoring charts.

Abraham, 19, has scored 18 goals in all competitions so far this season.

EPL Wrap: Iwobi Forces Two OGs, Dele Bags Assist, Ndidi Debuts; Moses, Ogbonna Start; Ibe, Maja, Asoro, Ighalo Benched

Rundown of how players of Nigerian descent fared in the English Premier League on Saturday evening.

In the early kickoff, Dele Ali continued his purple patch with an assist for Tottenham Hotspur in their 4-0 rout of West Brom. The England midfielder put in a full shift.

England U20 international Josh Onomah didn’t make the match day squad, while Wales international Hal Robson-Kanu came off the bench for the Baggies in the 62nd minute.

Arsenal moved up to third in the table with a 4-0 hammering of Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium. Super Eagles attacking midfielder Alex Iwobi forced two own goals in the second half.

The Gunners number 17 logged 90 minutes, teammate Chuba Akpom wasn’t involved.

We go to Turf Moor where Burnley tackled Southampton. Ex-Arsenal youth-teamer Olufela Olomola was not in the Saints line-up. It ended 1-0 in favour of the home team.

Hull City came from behind to beat AFC Bournemouth 3-1. The Tigers wing-back Moses Odubajo remains on the sidelines. Nigeria target Jordon Ibe was a non-playing substitute for the Cherries.

Young stars Joel Asoro and Josh Majawere on the bench in Sunderland’s 3-1 loss to Stoke City at the Stadium of Light. Victor Anichebe is lacking match fitness and did not suit up for the Black Cats.

Italy international Stefano Okaka logged 90 minutes and was booked with 12 minutes left on the clock as Watford laboured to a goalless draw against Middlesbrough at The Vic.

Odion Ighalo was an unused sub, while Isaac Success is still recovering from a hamstring complaint and was missing.

There is now a significant gap between West Ham and the bottom three following their 3-0 thrashing of Crystal Palace. Angelo Ogbonna subbed out for the Hammers before the start of the second half.

In the battle of The Blues, Wilfred Ndidi will make his Premier League debut having made the starting line-up along with Ahmed Musa. There is no Ola Aina for Chelsea, teammate Victor Moses starts for the umpteenth time.

Watched the Cameron Burkina game last night. In all honesty, the indomitable lions were very very impressive. They kept their shape well and played through Burkina with precise passes. They possess very athletic/mobile players and they seem to have stamped out their usual robust/dirty jam body football, thanks to the absence of the likes of Song and Mbia , although they still managed 4 yellow cards.
I hope Rohr was taking note of their game last night because I see these guys giving us a fight to the end.

If we are to get anything from the games against this side, our wingbacks need to have an excellent game because the Cameronian's are potent down the wings with Moukanjo , Bassogogo and Clinton N'jie. Imagine if Mbappe chose to represent Cameroun.. Hmm
Also, we must avoid giving up free kicks in dangerous areas. Moukanjo can burry those in like he did last night.

If we can get 4 hard points from this guys and 6 points from Zambia, we will be home and dry.
Let's not make mistake thinking Cameroun will be an easy ride, they played the best football so far in this tournament.

The eagles profile is gradually rising. Just yesterday (2013) when we won the afcon, we barely had Mikel only playing in the EPL and we struggled against lesser teams.

Now we have Iheanacho, Ndidi, Alex, Musa etc and more rising prospects. (Yes I regard EPL as the best/most difficult league in the world). We thank God.

However for that golden generation, I no longer have high hopes on following players for obvious reasons.

1. Isaac Success (Will he ever be injury free? Reminds me of Joel Obi. May God help him).

2. Obinna Nwobodo (Talented but just cannot make it to a bigger league. He is gradually getting old.

3. Musa Yahaya (Was my personal favorite in the U17, above Iheanacho and Success. Where is he now? I believe he scammed me. Right now I would rate little Kelechi Nwakali above him.

4. Taiwo Awoniyi (Was never really sold on him. But at a point in his performance I thought he deserved a look in. Right now I believe water has found its levels.

Under probation:
1. Victor Osimen
2. Etebo Oghenekaro
3. Moses simon
4. Keneth Omeruo
5. Henry Onyekuru (Showing flashes but not sold yet.Michael Olaitan showed flashes seasons ago, where is he now?)

Same Cameroun I watched last night? They could only boast of their physical presence of which Charles Kabore, Nagoma and Kone were real marches. Safe for Moukandjo and bassogog they had a pathetic attacking line up(though no thanks to Vinz Boubacar's suspension). Against a well disciplined team, they would lose by a very ridiculous margin. They lack that cutting edge that makes a good team fearful. Saw how they kept elbowing their opponents at every aerial battle to draw fouls even at dangerous zones? I ain't writing them off but u are over exaggerating their abilities. The less said about their back four, the better.

Don't give me excuse of some withdrawals because they didn't fair any better against Zambia in their own backyard when they had a full house.

They are good but not a cause for panic.

BTW, I admire that Bakari Kone of Burkina. What a sweet clinical, strong, rugged and no-nonsense Centre back. His aerial presence despite his small frame is a delight to watch. No wonder he is a mainstay in Malagas' first eleven.

It is exactly the same Cameroon that drew with Zambia and Algeria. They still lack the cutting edge.

Gordinho can't stop Aalborg defeat
Kaizer Chiefs defender Lorenzo Gordinho featured for Aalborg BK in a 2-0 friendly defeat yesterday as part of an overseas trial.
Gordinho played 90 minutes against German club Hoffenheim but was unable to prevent the Danish team from going down to their Bundesliga opponents.
Aalborg’s official website reports that “already after three minutes had guest performer Lorenzo Gordinho cleared the ball on the line, and shortly after the Germans once more had a shot attempt over the crossbar”.
The club also reports that “head coach Morten Wieghorst had chosen to start with a good mix of young and experienced forces for today's test match in which they were playing a total of 20 players”.
Hoffenheim dominated a one-sided game at the Dietmar-Hopp-Stadion in Sinsheim, and Gordinho was kept busy throughout. The Germans scored from an Aalborg defensive mistake and then on the counter-attack, and were 2-0 up before half-time.
The Kaizer Chiefs defender is hoping to win a contract at Aalborg after spending time training at English Championship side Fulham, with Portuguese passport simplifying matters should he win over coach Morten Wieghorst by January 17.
The centre-back's Amakhosi teammates Ryan Moon, Siyabonga Ngezana and Emmanuel Letlotlo have returned to Naturena following their spell at Craven Cotta

I made my judgment purely based on their game last night. A team is as good as their last game, if you judge them based on what they played against Zambia in October you will be making a mistake.
They were impressive last night as the tournament progresses they will get better.

Put a young Samuel Eto in this team, they will walk this tournament.

I guess it is an African thing. Poor leagues so clubs would rather have a closer look.

Our best league players have trials in Turkey and Russia not Belgium. If it was Belgium or Holland, I won't complain. Their options should not be north Africa or Turkey.

This man had trials in Fulham and now in Denmark, He is not the best in the SA League.

Players like Serrero , who was the best in the SA league a few years back went on trial with Ajax. He plays there now.

Nwanne are u sure u read my first paragraph? If u did, u wouldn't say my judgement was based on their past games(wordcup qualifiers) alone. Am concerned with their overall play in their past 3games (ystdy inclusv).

The Cameroun I saw ystdy ain't no force to be reckoned with, as u would want us to blv. Physically they are okay though that has characterized their game since inception but technically they are poor. They have an abysmal defense line with that shambolic keeper in Ondoa. Beats me why he is preferred ahead of Kameni and the other guy that plays in the Europa league with Ajax Amsterdam.

Until we see that young Samuel Eto, let's talk about Aboubacar

Maybe they don't seem such a huge threat because they don't have big names, but they are a solid outfit. They will give a game to any team in this tournament.
For me, they just have to turn their draws to wins. I read somewhere they have drawn their last 9 games.

I understand Rohr was seen at the stadium last night taking notes.

I will wait to see their next game before I beat my chest but I will be lying if I say they didn't play well last night.

Isn't this laughable?
We fired 2 title winning coaches cos of this.
Well that's understandable cos the great SAF finished 11th in is first year in united.
But if pep kee been adamant he going to be no where near greatness in epl.
And what philosophy has he been talking about? Am not getting it cos I can't see any philosophy in this, possession ball is purely overrated.
And for bravo, I don't knw the word to qualify him with. Because this sweeper keeper is adding nothing to our game. Imagine all the shot on target is a goal.
Last bullet, I don't know what other people think about kelechi, but the guy is losing the little confidence he has under pep.

Sterling lost the ball and not Iheanacho, I saw so many awkward pass from Silva, de Bryan, yaya but that pass was not awkward.
I know you guys must always link a goal conceded by man city to Iheanacho.
Nancho game was okk especially when he fall to the midfield
Pep just need to do something about his defense and keeper

Everton 4-0 m. City
Last bullet, I don't know what other people think about kelechi, but the guy is losing the little confidence he has under pep.

this same Kelechi that was scoring brace and hat-trick under Pellegrinni just last year.....and dem say make we leave am, he still dey learn work. Pesin wey dey regress when e dey learn work, is that not a sign that the new master is incapable of inculcating the needed technique and skills in him?

As for Bravo, like I said, flop.

See Everton that Leicester locked down and conquered just a week ago, using City to shine. Issorait
