Nice thread although I disliked the special tribute or mention of Abu Ali.

Many have died before and after him, why is he special?

Anyway, maka Ndi Igbo no na ala Awusa engaging in ogu n'agbasaghi ha, Unu nakwa e checki. sad

If you know how soldiers hate to go to Sambisa, you won't dislike him...Yet, he was at the fore front in Sambisa, it's not easy to find an officer like him in recent time who's willing to goto war. that's why he's special.

No wonder the old man wears his army uniform to church this morning. May the souls of the faithfully departed gallant officers rest in peace. Amen

Major Erasmus who was at one time the Second-in-Command at the Nigerian Army Brigade in Ibagwa, Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, was posted to Maiduguri, the hotbed of the insurgents some months ago but unfortunately, he lost his life, leaving his family and friends in tears.

One of such friends, Raphael Edem, a media aide to Governor Udom Emmanuel, took to his Facebook wall to extol the virtues of the fallen hero.
Read what he wrote:
"Today, I am immensely sad. Today, I have lost a friend. Today, I will just let these tears flow, in the knowledge that I can't do much more.
I met Major Erasmus in January this year. We were preparing for the annual ritual of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day. He was the 2/ic at the Brigade in Ibagwa and was coordinating the activities and introducing me to the nuances of military parades and traditions.

Friendly, welcoming, affable, very polite, ever-smiling and soft spoken. It was difficult to believe that this young man of about my age, with a baby face and an innocent, almost clerical demeanor was an army officer. I don't think I have ever met a more friendly and gentlemanly officer!
We struck an instant bond and kept in touch after the ceremonies. He was very intelligent, well schooled within and outside the country where he shone like a million stars and going by the testimony of his colleagues that I got to meet at different times, he was an excellent officer who was very professional and good at his job.
He invited me to the tombola night at Ibagwa, and we kept in touch despite his frequent trips to Kaduna to finalize his Masters degree program. Anybody who met him while not in uniform would be hard pressed to believe he was a military man, let alone an army officer.
He told me about his transfer to Maiduguri, but my apprehension about that posting was tempered by the government's assurances that Boko Haram had been routed in the North East. Erasmus assured me that we will get to see sometime soon."
Also Read: "Senseless Killing: Friends mourn young soldier murdered by Boko Haram in Baga battle"
"Alas! That is not going to happen as I woke this morning to the tragic news that he had been killed by an ambush in Maiduguri. And that is how we have lost this young, fresh-faced, bachelor officer.
Today, the enormity of the task and sacrifices made by our armed forces stare me in the face. The career path they have chosen is something everyone should respect and appreciate.
Adieu Major Erasmus, adieu my friend! Adieu officer and gentleman par excellence. The most painful goodbyes are the ones that are never said and never explained.
May God rest your soul and may your ultimate sacrifice not be in vain!"

In loving memory of our heroes
Who laid down their lives for the peace and unity of this Nation.
In honour of men who sacrificed their today for our tomorrow.
In appreciation of their bravery, their sacrifices, their pains unexpressed
Their love suppressed, their families deprived.
The fake smiles they wear to cover their bleeding hearts,
Their tenderness masked in toughness
The loneliness suffered by their spouses
The denials their dependants endlessly face
The loneliness of the soldier
The boredom of the arm bearer
The rejection of his own society
The fears of his own peer!
What can a soldier do?
When each day threatens to be the last
When death never promises its fair face
The tragic, traumatic memories of comrades fading into Hades
The unbreakable soldier you see is shattered inside
The tough gallant warrior just hides his fears and uncertainties
Because he must keep his words to fight for you, to defend you
You will not realize his work till you are defenseless.
Let’s together celebrate these men
Our sons, our daughters, our friends,
Our spouses, our warriors, our soldiers
It’s Armed Force Remembrance moment
Honour a soldier today.

Me I don't have any armed force personnel to remember. Few nights ago, I was stranded on a deserted road where a military checkpoint is located at a very late hour. Went to approach a soldier if he could fix me up to where I could get transport to my destination. He ended up embarrassing me. I was not asking for money, had to do that cos cars were not stopping at that point.
Am am expected to remember such an insensitive soldier if he could do such at peace time?

The rate at which some of you show lack of home training is amazing. On an auspicious day like this, some morons still find a way of saying garbage. I have always said it, may God provide for each an everyone of you what you wish others. Why don't you pray for the death of you or your family memebers so you can have a slice of what people have been facing. Because you have a second hand internet enabled phone you think you can just come here and make a nuisance of yourself. God punish all of you.

We are Soldiers. We fight to create peace. We speak to give silence. We train to keep fit. We kill to live. We live to kill.

Confidence and respect are not sold in the World Trade Centre. We earn them.

Who else could challenge in the face of death if not us? We see death not as threat but an obstacle we must cross to be valiant compatriots whose name will never be washed away in the face of a million floods.

Our home is away, our dull is the gun. What else could be so exciting than to defend our Fatherland.

Though it seems we have no future, it is sure we give future. Not only that, we also give hope.

We suppress those who oppress, to impress the depressed.

Field we sleep, sea we sail, sky we fly.

We tread on the wings of the octopus and give peace to our people. We will fight till we die, sail till we sink, fly till we crash to restore anomie to normality.

Three in one, we stand as one. Together; we shall build a great nation!

God bless the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy and the Nigerian Airforce.

It's Armed Forces Remembrance Day.

May the souls of our fallen heroes and sheroes rest in peace.

But how about the unarmed people they killed, the700 unarmed males in blood on the Niger, the unarmed ipob boys, the innocent women and children they starved to their untimely deaths when do we remember them.

What really has the armed forces contributed to Nigeria, bakassi Is still with Cameroon, boko Haram militias still kill, Fulani herdsmen are now the largest killers in the world.
Please there is nothing to remember, unless they foolishly wanted to remember the day Biafra surrendered to an alliance of Britain, Russia, Egypt

it seems something wrong with your brain. Must u abuse Buhari in every comment? This is a serious matter yet you are talking nonsense. Do u have anybody in army or any force? If you have or have lost one you won't be reason or commenting this manner. I wish any form of insurgence take over your place of living may be by then you will start remembering the falling soldiers.

it happens sometimes but that is the same way ENEMIES disguise to seek help & got soldiers down. The mission they were there at the checkpoint for is different from what you brought. Mind you they can't do anything out of their context. Imagine what could have happened if they were not at the checkpoint. They deserve to be remembered if you have a darling one in service. I believe you will not pray to loose him any moment. It's not easy my brother

I have impacted the society and the world more than most military Generals can ever do in their live time.

100% of the military activities has been internal and 0% external, what does that tell you about it. (forget the crap about peace keeping in war torn west African countries that the military has been engaged in)
American military engagement has been 100% external and 0 % internal.

Only very cosmetic countries that are unstable are held together by militaries. Some countries don't even have militaries while others just keep a military without engagements. 100% of the people killed by Nigerian military are Nigerians out of that the majority of the people killed are innocent, unarmed women and children
If Nigeria is existing because it has a military that means Nigeria's problem is internal. Other militaries protect the territorial integrity of the country while the Nigerian military is encumbered with internal issues.

I have friends and relatives in the military and have nothing against them and their chosen career.
