Bros, I took all these into consideration and I am not saying you are not presenting a superior argument but the fact still remains that despite the highlighted factors, a price regulatory body needs to step in to curb unusual hike in commodity price.
Ok, you are saying that some traders are taking advantage of the economic misfortune by hiking prices unreasonably.

But that's a tough and almost illegal task for FG to embark on.

Osibanjo has also lost his God-given mind.

Mr. Professor, it is called Cost of Transportation. It has to do with price of petrol. And it has to do with How Much a poor farmer needs in return so she can cook a pot of soup and eat too. A farmer will not sell his/her produce for 10 naira when 10 naira can not buy kerosene to cook her soup.

Are these people finally brain dead ?

The prices of goods was stable, then one certain Cow herder increased price of petrol, gamble with fx differentials, fleece people accounts and the panic created made the billionaires to move their funds, changed them to dollars and launder them to safe heavens. NoW what we have here is a mess.

Your Buhari went out there and say Nigerians are all corrupt, now that investors are pulling out and businesses firing, you turn around and keep your face like person wey no sleep for 4 weeks. May be if these our Presidency people start smoking sk, they will reason better.

What we expect from this Government is 100% Resignation. No more! Nigerians need some "respek" to their names.

If it will bring down prices, why not?

Just hurry up before oga hardship returns.

Sadly he will reverse it and increase prices instead!

This is a very bold step! There's no price control policy and this is a major reason for the high cost of living. I Just Hope It Works

We are such a pessimist in this country, the personalities in that committee should explained it all that it is going to be an holistic approach in the sense that those that are germane to policy formulation are part of the committee hence deciphering the cause and solution will be easy;it would have been a different ball game if the members were security agents or a third party. I hope they will come up with something tangible that will touch all sectors that culminated to the situation we are.

I think the president should give more opportunity to the VP to act,we can see semblance of proactiveness in governance in the last two weeks.

Oga Osinbajo,

Why don't you simply use Buhari's style and "ORDER" the food prices to be sold at what you like and then "ARREST" anyone selling food above government approved prices. grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin

Chai, Nigerians have suffered under truly confused government.

Hehehehehehe. Who are the idiots that took us back to 1984? This was exactly what happened then. There was food rationing and price control. Ok, here we are. Welcome to the new year 1984 hehehehe. The big question is- why is it only when buhari is in power that they have to ration and control prices of items? The content of the skull is a big issue here if u ask me.

When traders sell cheap, how can they afford other items with rate of inflation over 100%?

hope it's not a sin to pray for buhari to remain on vacation till this is accomplished...BTW, how can ppl who don't know the prices of food stuffs review it.
my own task force has already proffered the solution and it's simply to open borders for free importation of food items.
you don't cut source before getting enough supply,we can only lock our borders when we are self dependent if not sufficient.
We won't be geared towards self-dependency if we keep getting what we want from outside without any form of restraints

That being said, what I think should have been done is not to place outright ban on some essential commodities, particularly consummables. The government can place like 300% import duty on this items and then turn around to subside the effects by implementing large scale agricultural subsidies for same locally produced commodities, effective price control mechanism to ceil prices, and government should ensure transparency and honesty in all of these.

This, I think will not only drive out foreign products outta our markets without necessarily lmpeding peoples purchasing rights, It will also stimulate our local productive industries, and save our nation of considerable forex worth of billions-dollars

These will genuinely help in our quest for sustainable development and import-substitution.

This is how it is supposed to be, but what do you do when cost of importation is far cheaper than production in Nigeria. Nobody is Willing to run a lose, so everybody just dey import. resulting in huge unemployment.

our politicians awash our brain with media sensationalistic promises and moves. Everything depends and works mutually for the success of them all. How can they be contemplating increasing again fuel price, price of gas skyrocketed too and they expect to beat down price of foodstuffs. Increment in price of foodstuffs is as a result of increment in fuel price, dollar price etc making cost of transportation of dis foodstuffs rise and yet they include their profit untop of the price increment as they need to make gains. This government is a hoax.

Desperate situation calls for desperate measures.

The law of demand and supply hasn't been effective due to greedy people except for few commodities (perishable goods like tomatoes, et.al ) whereby sellers have no choice than to force down the price to avoid wastage but others like provisions and canned foods are on the increase which I believe there must be assurance dept to checkmate the gluttony and barbaric thirst of middleman/retailers.

It's either you are being dubious or just ignorant, your view is too simplistic. Pricing in the Market is not affected solely by demand and supply. for example, you are a farmer and you harvested X amount of yam for the year, from that X amount of yams, you would feed your kids, cloth them, pay their school fees, pay their medical bill, drink with friends, pay house rent and so many other things in life.
All of a sudden due to some policies or strange reasons the buying power of your currency reduces and you realised that if you continue with that price you sold your last produce, you may die of starvation before the next harvest. From the depth of your mind, without being biased what would you do.

Nope. This method will never help us to produce locally. We need to suffer this first till it buffers up. Rome wasn't built in a day. If u open the borders, u will be doing more harm than good. We will never grow and we'l keep aving the influx of commodities which could av bn grown locally. Let's look at the long-term effect and not the short term of getting it surplus by depending on importation. All we need is patience, things would shape up soon, I assure u. We need to be providential

Mr. Professor it is unfortunate that you don't understand how the demand and supply works.
The mathematics is so simple. Check the increase of petroleum produce i.e PMS, AGO, DPK, etc. and confirm the need for stability of prices.
Consider the transportation of the farm produce i.e the conditions of the roads, vehicles and their spare parts, the drivers and their families survival also.
Consider the fertilizer that was almost free but now costs more.
Compare the population growth as at 2006-2016 and no census was taken to ascertain the actual number of persons that should be provided for.
Let me stop here.

As long as cost of daily living is high due to increased fuel prices, increased and poor power supply, scarcity of some products due to high import tariffs and banning of the items, food prices will still be high.

Even fertiliser is either scarce or expensive as you people removed the subsidy from it. You think the farmers don't want to make profits? You think they don't have workers who are affected by the increase you people have made on everything, including common kerosene? They cannot live on the same basic salary this year that they lived on two years ago. Are they doing free work? Everyone needs to make profits. Even the transporters who transport the food stuff and the market sellers.

You cannot increase the cost of basic amenities and expect people's products and services not to increase.

Check yourself Osinbajo, check your policies, otherwise this your group of dull misfits will never achieve anything.
