Ade547:You don't stain 4 semen count, the sodium bicarbonate formalin (more of a fixative and not a stain), immobilises the cells for an efficient count. You stain when you want to check for viability with acidic dyes (Eosin, Safranin etc) 2 Likes |

Hello everyone. I'm a final year medical laboratory student of UNN. I was just thinking about my future after school. I know the struggle for internship is serious, so I was wondering if anyone can give me tips on how to get internship or how to get busy in case I don't get internship. Thanks 2 Likes |

phlora:Worry about finishing first......Once you have been inducted you are one foot there The secret to getting internship is applying at every possible openings (be always prepared to travel) + read well and wide (most times its usually technical and clinical oriented questions). Whilst waiting for internship, you can engage in private practice though they won't pay you well since you are still a fresh graduate but it's just to keep mind and soul busy but if it will distract you, stay at home and keep preparing yourself cos the competition for slots out there is stiff. Do not put your hope on any centre (except you can influence it) and always aim to be the best in every exam. Always see every attempt as "Try your luck" (if it works fine, if it doesn't life continues). 3 Likes |

Re: Medical Laboratory Scientists Forum by nelszx: 5:06pm On Mar 26, 2017 |
Debbyqueen50: I may not be in the best position to tell you about the fees and requirements as it may be outdated but @nani4all and @Davbravo et al can help out with that. I believe when they see your post, they'd do justice to it. One thing is its competitive and quota based (<100/class) and the number reduces as one progresses. As for the NYSC parade, it's your choice. If you decide not go at all it all depends on you. Like in my case, I didn't do any rubbish parade and I slept well in the camp clinic (reserved bed). If you want to parade (if there are no emergencies) you can but if you choose not to you can't be forced + it depends on the camp though |

help guys, pls how can a microbiology work as a medical laboratory scientist |
Re: Medical Laboratory Scientists Forum by nelszx: 8:05am On Apr 13, 2017 |
priceless21:Hi dear, a Microbiology graduate can not work as a Medical laboratory scientist. You will not be allowed to work as a technician or assistant let alone a scientist. The reason is this MCB (Science and research oriented) and MLS (life and health related) are different professions/career paths and the practice (which include medical microbiology / parasitology and much more) of the latter is regulated so it would be difficult to cut into the other. Unlike yesteryears, it was possible with a postgraduate diploma in MLS (2 years + 1 year internship) but that has been scrapped over 10 years now. So the best bet of working as a MLS, you will be required to go back to school (D.E) get a B.MLS degree and get your licence from MLSCN (only then can you work as a MLS). So my dear no where in Nigeria would they allow a Microbiology graduate work as a MLS because of the certification and license to practice (regulated profession). |
