I cannot believe if you have watched JD and yet u don't know the story line and you come up with her accent as excuse neglecting the fact that 90% of the casts spoke the correct grammar.
Nigerian entertainment industry needs the indigenous flavour that is fusing in local comedy to spice up the play or else u will not make huge profit.
@ OP hope u saw davido little kid singing IF please what do you make of that?

It is your failure as a parent if your child can't speak correct english
not Jenifer's diary's fault.

Many of us was watched pidgin, broken and mixed indigenous
language movies while growing up and that didn't impair our ability
to speak and understand standard english.

A child with broad perspectives on language use and accent trumps
a monolinguist robotic english speaker any day.
... As an children growing tell me the pidgin you watch whilst growing up... You missed the point the world is evolving.. I for one i really don't see the essence of such grammar in the movie.. You made you point in the very first season

What's this OP talking about sef?
The series is rated 13 and if your 13yrs old ward cannot differentiate between a movie and reality then you have failed your task as parent.

Incoherent lots
Can't you state your opinion for or against without colouring it with shades of insults?
Some even saw it in the prism of tribal bashing and took it personal

Xynerise it's kinda cool that there are parents in this modern day who still genuinely care about stuffs like this.
However my concern are more on the morals taught by those soap operas than the medium of interactions.
Formal education has a way of neutralising the poor speaking skills kids see in these movies (majority of guys above 30 today watched new masqurade etc) but it takes God's intervention to expunge the filth which most of these convey from their mind. In a nutshell, PG(parental guidance) should be focused on the message the movies convey than it is the language medium.

Peace!

Before fans of Funke Akindele start throwing plastic chairs at me, take a seat and read carefully.

Is Jenifa's Diary rated PG? If no, then the problem starts from the censor board.

Originally, Jenifa's accent could be traced to the Ibadan people in Oyo state but she really exaggerated , but that is not the point though.

My point is, people who already know the right grammar to use may not be a victim of this but people especially children who are still learning The English language should not be viewing that movie.

I heard a little girl speaking exactly like Jenifa. She was telling another kid "Joe, ava? and he replied "I is fine". Think of the damage it will cause to their English speaking ability on the long run.

Jenifa's Diary is not for school children but people watch it with kids around and you know kids learn things fast and if they know it, it is hard for them to forget it.

My advice is, don't watch Jenifa's Diary around kids.

Your insult is welcomed.

at least there are parental control function on your remote, you should be the one that will decide what your children are going to watch!

We that have grammatical intelligence see where we eat.
While Jenifer is shooting movies in London.

Until grammatical intelligence and degree put somebody in top 1000 richest or influential list or at least every Nigerian with grammatical prowess and degree starts earning at least 250,000 upon gaining such prowess leave Jenifa's diary alone.
I'm not a big fan of the show but Nigerians hype education and English language too much as if the combination is a sure way to make heaven.
if Jenifa's diary would impair your child's grammar you child no get sense na that child is a pikin.
P.s only one lawyer is in worlds 1000 richest he made his money from business.

Gentleman you made my day for your comments, I believe you are brilliant guy to stand up from this thread. Some Africans believe in grammar a lot and that is not education but ordinary language.

Bro, you are getting older.
All of us are getting older
Even a baby born today gets older by the seconds, minutes, hours and so on.

Truth is I don't wanna get married for the above reason. Have to be psychologically and emotionally ready before I take the walk. Funny some 2 years ago I was very ready to settle down but my family came hard on me cos I was in love with a young career single mother (remember mentioning it to you back then ). In the U.K. I met this girl that I also fancy a lot cos she's intelligent, smart and career driven and yet understands the concept of raising an ideal family. But she doesn't want to move back to Nigeria. Asked me to stay back but I have at least a thriving job here than stay and join the pool of unemployed or underemployed over there.

Here at home I'd hardly had time to mingle and few I've come across in my line of duty are not inspiring at all. My weakness comes to the fore with women of class who understands life itself and have independent opinions about all matters. Need I add she must be tall, dark or chocolate wink grin
