25. COUNTLESS.


It was already past seven o'clock when I got to Funaab. I asked the bikeman to wait for me while I went to withdraw the money. There were few people at the ATM and I quickly joined the que.

While waiting for my turn, I dialed Chioma's number.

"Hi pretty!" I said after she picked the call.

"Hi hansom, how you doing?" she asked

"pardon me to say, right now, am short of words to describe how am feeling. I feel, happy, I feel excited." I told her about my meeting with Adedoyin. She was really happy and adviced me to play my game wisely. I ended the call after she promised to come to my place at ten.

I noticed a guy staring at me after the call. I just ignored him, thinking he was just another gay boy from Sodom looking for his Gomorrah gay. Little did he know that my yansh is already protected by the gawd of thunder.

It got to my turn and I withdraw 70k, I transferred 50k to Jide and I still had up to 30k in my account


The gay boy was making a call by the time I was through with the machine. I headed home.

I got home at something past nine. Some of the tenants are back. The house is getting full again. I already bought cooked yam and egg from the hausa market. I still had six bottles of goldbergs in my mini freezer and I sat down to eat my food.


My phone rang, I reached for it and behold, it was Beatrice. I quickly slide the receive botton with all my strenght and placed the phone on my ear.

"Hello..thank gawd you called." I said delightfully.

"please who is this?"came the reply from her. I was confused at first wondering why she asked me that. Is she playing a game or what? Then I remember divatolaz, my ex-gf, she always apply the same trick whenever we had a misunderstanding.

"please Beatrice, let me explain, am deeply sorry..I didn't mean to hurt you. I swear to gawd, it wasn't my fault. You just have to give me the chance to explain my side of the story, if not for anything, just remember the kind of synergy that was starting to develop between us. Believe me Beatrice, seeing can be deceiving at times. You should know I love you..." I paused a bit, to hear her response. But I didn't hear anything. "Hello? Are you there? Hello?" I brought the phone to my face to see if the call was still on but thunder fire devil, the phone don off. Battery empty.

There was no light. I reached for my power bank and plugged the phone. It came on after 3mins and I redial her number. She picked at the fouth ring and cursed me fervently before she terminated the call. I was totally downcast and confused at the same time. I thought she was playing my ex-gf trick on me before, but this one pass divatolaz own.


I ate my food silently and topped it up with one bottle of chilled goldberg.

'I can not come and go and kill myself because of pusee na. I gats to enjoy my life to the fullest. I still have enough pusee that can serve the whole population of guys in Nigeria at my disposal na. My phone rang again and I hurriedly picked it up, hoping it was Beatrice. I let out an agonizing hiss when I saw that it was another pusee calling.


"Hello Chioma."

"Darous am on my way, am at Mama Kars right now. Where should I tell the bike man to drop me?" she asked panting like someone in a marathon race.


"Tell him to drive you straight to hell, thats where you belong for separating me and Beatrice. You this..." I wanted to scream that to her but I quickly remember that we've settled our scores already. I returned to my calm manners.

"tell him to drop you at Fajol hotels. My place isn't far from there, call me when you get there and I will meet you there."

"ok. I will be there shortly." She ended the call.

"Welcome to my humble temple. This is where I place my head at every blessed night." I ushered her in.

"Wow! You have a nice bachelor room. Very nice." She complemented the room after surveying it for some minutes.

"thanks dear. Have your sit and let me get you something to drink. What will you take?" I asked her after she has sat on the bed.

"eh..Darous...Darous wake up." I heard Chioma's voice calling me from my slumber mind in what seems like a whisper.


"Please Chy...I already told you to wait till tomorrow...am tired to have any thing..."

She cuts in.
"I think something is going on outside." She whispered quietly. I sprang up immediately.

I walked towards the door and placed my ear on it. I could hear some unrecognised voice speaking outside.

I opened the door quietly and peeped outside. I saw four guys with two of them puting on hallogen headlights while the remaining two were holding a pistol each. They have already assembled the other tenants outside their corridor. I recognised one of the guys. I tried to remember where I saw him. Then I remembered, he was the same guy at the ATM. I immediately become more alarmed.

I have a hunch that they must have come for me or traced me to my house.

I closed the door noiselessly and locked it. I told Chioma to remain very quiet. She nodded her head and sat down on the bed with a very frightened look on her face.

I approached the door again after thirty seconds and placed my ear back on it.

I could hear them asking one of the tenants about my room.

The guy told them 'over there' probably pointing towards my rooms direction. I hurriedly moved back inside and dragged Chioma up to her feet.


Barely seconds later, we heard a loud knock on the door and a loud voice speaks after.

"Open this door now or you will be sorry when we force it down."

I remained standing and unyielding. I was scared to the bone and Chioma was already trembling.


They banged the door again but very hard.

"Open this door now! or we break it with force..Now!" He roared.

Chioma leaned over to me and wrapped her trembling arms around my waist.

"what are we going to do now? they will break that door." she said with a shaking voice.

I was really lost on what to do. Then after their third threat, the gawd of thunder mentally gave me an idea.

I dragged Chioma to the kitchen and hide her behind the cabinet. Then I approached my freezer and brought out five empty bottles of goldberg. I went inside the toilet and filled each bottle full with water.

I heard the sound of the door handle break and I got ready for action. I waited for them to enter the room before I swung fully into action.


I faced the tiled toilet wall and picked one of the bottles filled with water. I aimed it at the wall and threw it with full force against it. It produced a very loud ear deafening sound replica to the sound of a gun shot. I repeated the same process rapidly with three more bottles and waited to hear from the room while holding the last bottle in my hand.

I could hear some scuffle outside, like five people trying to hurry out of a very small door. They were shouting 'HE has a gun! That sonofabitch has got a gun!' As they ran out very fast.

I ran outside and encourage the tenants to run after them. Five guys plus me went after them and luckily for us we caught one of them. The others got away.

We dragged him back to our house. After beating Kuje prison out of him.

Someone called the Police Response Squad and they arrived ten minutes later. They told us to come to the station in the morning to give our statement.

Chioma came over to me after they left and gave me a very tight hug.

"you did a very brilliant thing back there Darous." She said and gave me another tight hug.

The guys walked over to us and asked me where I got a gun.
I smiled and made for my door steps and picked up the remaining bottle of water.

I raised it up and said;

"WHO NEEDS A fvcking gun, when have got A BOTTLE OF GOLDBERG?" The guys didn't get the subtle message I was passing to them and I had to take them to my toilet to show them the shattered shards of bottle on the floor before they got the logic.

"WOW! guy am really impressed. You are a life saver." Said one of the guys.

PHCN brought the light after twenty five minutes of the incident. The other tenants went back to their rooms making sure they had atleast a bottle with them.

Chioma helped me in cleaning of the toilet, and we showered again.

We couldnt sleep atall. Chioma placed her head on my chest and began rubbing my thighs.

Just to kill time, we started watching a philipino film titled : HER MOTHERS DAUGHTER season3. Its quite an intresting film. Infact, its arguably one of the best movies have ever watched on my plasma t.v. We watched it till PHCN took the light around five. I then switched on the lamp.

Chioma climbed over my body and said,
"Can we have that victory sex now?" she asked biting her lower lips.

'This life can't get any better than this, can it?'
